Love to hear the Band of HM Royal Marines play 'Sunset'. As an Army veteran with Commando service I have asked for this to be played at my funeral..... an old soldier's final recall to barracks!

I was born at the end of the war. These melodies bring me back to the family stories. They were truly the greatest generation, all who fought in the terrible war. My parents in the RN and QARNNS, my stepfather RAF, my father in law in the Middlesex Regiment and fatally wounded at Dunkirk. My granddaughter's two great grandfathers, one RN one MN out of Liverpool.

One of those ww1 VC winners I discovered lived just a few yards from my house in the next road. An ordinary enlisted man, who unfortunately died of his wounds.

Rule Britannia - words by James Thomson who was born in Ednam in Roxburghshire, Scottish Borders around 11 September 1700 and baptised on 15 September. Thomson entered the College of Edinburgh in autumn 1715, destined for the Presbyterian ministry. At Edinburgh he studied metaphysics, Logic, Ethics, Greek, Latin and Natural Philosophy. He completed his arts course in 1719. He moved to London in 1725. In 1740, he collaborated with Mallet on the masque Alfred which was first performed at Cliveden, the country home of Frederick, Prince of Wales. Thomson's words for "Rule, Britannia!", written as part of that masque and set to music by Thomas Arne, became one of the best-known British patriotic songs - quite distinct from the masque which is now virtually forgotten. The Prince gave him a pension of £100 per annum.

Imma Yank. An American who loves pomp and circumstance while honoring the men and women who serve, have served, and some who have given the full measure of sacrifice. This music brings joy to my heart and tears to my eyes. I served for nearly 24 yrs in the U.S. Army and would gladly do it again! This music is wonderful!
