@@ninja51ify Not a lot of people knew that Damon was on SNL . At the time , he was a featured played...and fired after the 85-86 . Remember , at that time.....they only had one cast member..Danitra Vance . She was the 2nd woman of color on the show , and just like Yvonne Hudson....never got a contract to be on the show full time . That's why it was so easy to discard most of the black actors/actresses during the 80's (except Eddie Murphy)

@Dickum N Lickum the V: Emperor Of KZbin. Look, I'm just saying, many of the skits and characters that they are famous for would not be able to get any play due to how "problematic" that they would be considered nowadays. Look at MADtv. They tried to reboot it a few years ago, and it FAILED miserably. The two shows you mentioned are cartoons, not live skit shows. Ratings expectations and salaries are going to be different for them compared to a live skit TV show.

@Dickum N Lickum the V: Emperor Of KZbin. Not making up anything. Keenan Wayans gave an interview a couple of years ago saying that he was considering rebooting In Living Color. He said how difficult it was trying to bring his brand of comedy to this current generation, and how it would not go over to well. I would like the show to come back, but things we thought were funny in 1988 wouldn't hold up today.

This sketch depends on a lot: That you know Wayan's character from In Living Color, That you know the Men on Films sketches, that you know who Roger Ebert is, that you've seen all the movies they talk about, and that you know it's amazing to have something from one comedy show be featured on another. SNL audiences are notorious for not getting these types of deep cut sketches. I think the live audience killed this one before it started.

Where was this hiding? I didn't know In Living Color crossed over to SNL. This is serendipitous because Damon Wayans was a part of the SNL cast briefly.

This is crazy that Damon would return to do this favor for Lorne Michael's after he fired him from SNL. Damon being fired from SNL was really the catalyst that made his big brother step in and create a vehicle for their family. In living color was actually more popular than SNL in its prime.
@williamshaw9047
@williamshaw9047 4 жыл бұрын
More crazy that Michaels had him back considering what got DW fired. He had a minor part in a silly skit where Jon Lovitz played a criminal defense lawyer named Mr. Monopoly, who always got his clients off because he had Get Out of Jail Free cards. Damon was supposed to have a bit part as a cop but he played the cop as his Blaine Edwards character from "Men on Film"" and completely derailed the sketch.

@@williamshaw9047 Wow, never knew that. That's insane. But would have been really hilarious. They are completely known for going off script, so I don't know why it wasn't allowed. I honestly believe its because the wayans family was notorious for the "if you take one, you have to take us all" routine, and that may have been the case. Damon might have been trying to bombard Lorne with his sister Kim and and his younger brothers, i doubt Keenan needed that kind of leverage. He was already pretty successful with Hollywood shuffle and I'm gonna get u sucka, he was also friends with Eddie.

He wanted to get fired, it was the only way out of his contract. He wanted more creative freedom, Michaels wouldn’t allow it.
@Cyke101
@Cyke101 4 жыл бұрын
@@madgegolightly8920 Yeah, to Madge's point, messing up the skit came from advice from none other than Eddie Murphy himself to Damon Wayans about working on SNL -- be you, take your spotlight, and don't let them keep you back, or else you become Garrett Morris. Damon took that advice to heart and served him well ever since.
