This is so True, they do the same thing in womens Canadian hockey. I use to play AA peewe (ages 14-16) and we would play against the under 19 team Ontariogirls in exhibition games. We usually won 85% of all exhibition game, but those girls would go on to dominate their divisions and tournaments.

I was a practice player for a few years. I thought it was a pretty sweet deal truthfully. It kept me in great shape and I got free shoes, jersey, shorts, and got to register for my classes early as if I was an ncaa athlete. Just for playing against women. Who would pass up that offer?

In my town, the rep male hockey team was the Rangers and the rep females hockey team was the Hornets, and sometimes the Hornets would invite the Rangers to scrimmage against them. Those games looked like a lot of fun, and it seemed to make the girls better. And in hockey, you take shifts anyways like you would in a normal game, so this problem of time on ice/court whatever, doesn't exist.

I think its a good idea to keep allowing male practice players. When I was in college myself and a few other guys were recruited to scrimmage against the women's club team. Our pick up squad playing against them may have really helped them out because when we played them they played extremely slow for being a team that was supposed to have been playing with each other for awhile. Little by little they got used to playing up to how fast we were moving the ball.

the one lady said it perfect, they might not be more skilled at certain things on the court but they are bigger, faster, stronger athletes and can help the womans program excell. woman's athletic ability makes it difficult to keep up with men in basketball, it's just their genes don't allow their muscles to be as explosive as men's but more power to the programs that will do anything to strive to succeed.
@moxypirate13 жыл бұрын
@disagreeablesob Furthermore, men have the added pressure of not just being slim, but buff, athletic, charming, bread winners, etc. Because societal pressures for men and women are different, doesnt mean that either is under diminished pressure. A quick example I always give women when they say men don't have to wear make up, I like to respond that women don't have to risk being rejected over and over when they are interested romantically in someone either.
@jsstevens18 жыл бұрын
It seems that the male practice members have an attitude that maybe one-day the girls will be as good as them. Are these guys good? Apparently not good enough to make the men's team, right? Who are these guys, how are they selected, are they also members of the men' basketball team? Are they given scholarships to be part of this practice team?

soccer players get paid more because the NFL has a salry cap to keep other teams competitive year in and year out. Soccer teams like manchester united, barcelona, real madrid, all dominate the sport for years because the sport isnt important enough to make it even for everyone. When a sport is really coming into true fandom (as in not just fans trying to get drunk, but fans willing to appreciate strategy) there comes a point where salary cap is crucial for creating a fair and interesting sport

ElljayOfficial, "stupider' is a word. It is the comparative form of the word 'stupid'. We say stupid, stupider, stupidest. To say more stupid is grammatically incorrect. It is like saying more tall instead of taller. I am just saying. Sawa sawa?

There are a lotta haters here! It does help to play against teams and people who are better than you. Our women's soccer team practices against the guys who we play co-rec with and it really helps out having to play against a team where everyone is faster than you Lol. We have to contain possession more and have more precise passing to avoid turnovers. When we play in league games I can tell the differnce in the speed of the game. This really helps.

@moxypirate Actually,societal pressures are almost the same,with the exceptions being the very wealthy but physically plain man and the very physically attractive woman of average income.But only women complain about the status quo and blame it all on men.A better response to the complaint about makeup is the fact that women will judge men on their clothes and shoes,their jobs and the kind of car they drive.Most women won't bother with a guy who doesn't at least make more money than them.

The 12th, 13th, 14th players on the women's team will probably never get to play anyway. Give those spots to male practice players, and let the gals who would otherwise be bench warmers play JC, Dvision II, NAIA, or somewhere else where they might actually get playing time during games.

I've got to disagree with you there. Kobe would kill Sue Bird in a game of one on one. Men typically produce more testosterone which makes them taller (NBA average height: 6'6" WNBA average height 5'7"), faster and stronger. That plus higher levels of coordination lead to the fact that the average guy will be better than the average girl.

All these people worry about scholarships for athletes. Since almost all programs do not recoup the money they spent (except about 50% of football and some men's basketball), we the taxpayer subsidize these sports for people to play. Is that right?

I solidly blame this on the smaller basketball size that we are forced to play with. The OLD concept that womens hands are smaller is wrong. No matter what size my hands are..I'm still forced on the playground to play with a men's size basketball. The smaller ball forces females to shoot short and separate ourselves from men. Look at all the top female players and I bet they played with men (and an NBA ball).
@lukerowe56075 жыл бұрын

The fact that the top programs insist on using unorganized, uncoached, non-D1 caliber men for practice players as upgrades over their bench players only serves to illustrate the natural talent gap. Women's teams do great stuff with teamwork and fundamentals, but anyone who thinks any sort of decent men's team couldn't hang with these programs has to be kidding themselves.
