The Men's 200m event got underway at 13:33 (local time) on August 21, 2021 at the University of Oregon's Hayward Field, two weeks after the Tokyo Olympic Games. The temperature range that day was between 13°C - 26°C (55°F - 78°F), according to Official Diamond League records the Wind Velocity was +1.5 m/s at the moment of the race. The City of Eugene is located at an altitude of 131 meters (430 feet) above sea level.
The event featured a Star-Studded Field of eight North American sprinters, from the USA and Canada, six of them Tokyo Olympic Finalists in four different events: the 200m, the 4X100m Relay, 4X400m Relay, and the 400m Hurdles.
Three Olympic Finalists in the Men's 200m: Aaron Brown (Canada), the Olympic Bronze Medalist Noah Lyles (USA), the Olympic Silver Medalist Kenneth Bednarek (USA).
One Olympic Finalist in the Men's 4X100m Relay: Olympic Bronze Medalist Jerome Blake (Canada).
One Olympic Finalist in the Men's 4x400m Relay: Olympic Gold Medalist Vernon Norwood (USA).
One Olympic Finalist in the Men's 400m Hurdles: Olympic Silver Medalist Rai Benjamin (USA).
Noah Lyles (USA) picked up where he left of and showed that his form was in an ascending path after his Olympic Bronze Medal-Winning performance in Tokyo, crossing the finish line in commanding fashion with a time of 19.52s, representing a World Lead, and a Meet Record for the American Star. His winning time of 19.52s represents an increase in time of 0.103% with respect to his Personal Best of 19.50 (Lausanne, Switzerland, 2019).
