4:08 Gotta love how they never addressed the fact that the first mile in this 5k was a 4:06 until 15 seconds after and they made it sound like that was a typical, everyday split. Kinda wish they were a bit more invested in the race they were there to commentate on ngl.
@jkhoudini
@jkhoudini 3 жыл бұрын
I found their analysis during that segment explaining the various teams’ decision making process to focus on xc vs indoor track to be very insightful. They jumped right back on the split after the well thought out commentary, no big deal.

@@jkhoudini I mean, I guess that's nice if u liked it, but when I click on a 5k race, I personally want to hear commentary about the race. There are plenty of other sources that could give me info on things like team competition choices if that's what I'd wanted to hear

This comment did give me a chuckle. If you know enough about the sport to complain about this, you're definitely able to calculate each 200m split yourself, let alone the 1600m mark. That split info is less important than information that is not literally right in front of your eyes, such as why some top 5k performers are not here, choice making, etc.
@freshappleseed6966
@freshappleseed6966 3 жыл бұрын
@@k-level I personally don't see how that information could be important enough to talk about for 4+ minutes. When it comes to commentating about splits, it's not just about letting the audience know what they are and the pace, but also what it could mean for the rest of the race. There was a drastic change in positioning, the race spread out immensely, the people that went out with Kiptoo were already about 10 meters back and Kiptoo himself is now gonna have a hard time keeping up a decent pace after having gone out so hard. I can't say that the fact that nau and byu didn't compete is completely unrelated, but if they felt the need to talk about it, it shouldn't have been for so long and could've been commentary better spent on their actual races. Not to mention that a lot of people(including myself) look to commentary for excitement/passion to keep them invested in the race. Couldn't find an ounce of it in this video

Kiptoo is nuts. He breaks the indoor 5K collegiate record then takes 3rd at XC, running 14:27 in the first 5K. And he only had 2 days off in between races! He's definitely gonna be a sub 13 5Ker and beast internationally if he can work a little bit more on his kick!

hate it when they dont focus on the runners and keep panning away to other sports. Some of these athletes like Eric Hamer who got second maybe got 10 seconds of camera time in a full 13 minute race. Really sad

@kjburkley2367

It's the nature of this kind of coverage. In order to keep audiences tuned in, they aren't going to show the entire 5K run (it's a very long race). I do agree with you, they should spend more time on the running events, but field events rarely get any camera time at all during nationally televised meets. So to be fair, they show them during longer races for somewhat equal representation🤷🏽‍♀️

My PR is a 14:19.72 so I cannot imagine running nearly one minute faster and coming in dead last with my personal record indoors. My three mile split was a 13:52.26 and to be blown away with a descent time is difficult to swallow. But I was a D II athlete so we did NOT have the premium upper tier school advantage with top coaches and school programs for student/athletes! My outdoor PR was a bit better at 14:01.64 @ 5,000 meters and my 10,000 meters was a 29:33.60 to finish 5th in Division II. My PR for my first two Boston Marathons were a 2:18:16 and 2:20:12 to finish in 66th and 67th in the World as a 24 and 25 year old straight out of College.
