Hi Katie! I finished this hat today!!! I did have to restart the initial one a couple times part way through while getting used to the motions and figuring out sizing. The third try was perfect! I followed your guidelines to make a larger one because I wanted mine to be loose fitting and not squishing my hair. My tension is very tight and I also used super was merino wool yarn, so this garment worked up very thick and sturdy. I wanted this as well for warmth and protection, as I am in Canada and we have long cold snowy winters here. The brim of the hat was also very stiff, and I turned up the front section of the brim- it actually held its shape very nicely, like one of those "military caps" that have those "mini baseball cap brims"- it looks really cool! I wore it out this afternoon and evening, and it kept my head warm, and kept my hair nice and neat. There was lots of blowing snow coming down too! I got compliments at the grocery store and was asked where I bought it... told the patrons I made my hat following a tutorial from OmiCrochet on youtube! 😊 I got my best friend (a guy) to try it on, but it was too small for him. Oh well, now that I've had practice, I could make some adjustments for him if he wants one. He's got some hand knitted hats from previous years for now at least lol Thanks again for uploading this video Katie! Your work is very impressive and the results were better than expected! Fawn 😊

I just finished this hat for my husband. He’s your husband’s doppelgänger. Thanks for the great video!!!

And are you my doppelgänger? Wouldn’t that be crazy! :)

love how you present your patterns. You clearly write them down which I LOVE. Thank you.

I will have to show my husband this comment. He teases me a lot about my handwriting. He says “I can’t read that! It just looks like a bunch of hieroglyphics!” Although, for my video, I did try extra hard to write extra neatly! Please know, your comment will be referenced for many years to come! Thank you! Haha! :)

Subscribed! This looks so lovely. I've been looking for a tutorial on how to crochet a gender neutral winter hat in the round, suitable for both men and women, but particularly for the men in my life. I've done knit before but have ALWAYS wanted to learn how to make a crochet winter hat! Literally just sat and watched this video while eating breakfast to get an overview. Yesterday afternoon and evening, I struggled with what appeared to be a straight forward tutorial and pattern on another channel for more hours than I'd like to admit... and needless to say I gave up on that one for now. I see you have a few other gender neutral winter hat crochet patterns, which I will view first without actually making the hat, then choose one that suits my needs to start off with. Thank you so much for uploading your beautiful crochet skills and proficient instructions! Fawn 😊

I’d love to know which one you end up choosing and how it turns out. Keep me in the loop. Thank you for all of your kind words and thanks for watching! :)

@@OmiCrochet To be honest, from the content I've browsed through so far on your channel, this hat appears to be the one I am most attracted to for my needs and preferences. My intention is to learn a pattern that I like and am comfortable with, and make one for myself as well as for my best friend (a guy). A gender neutral pattern is a must for me! For this pattern, I can't remember, but is there any information about the required gauge or instructions to make a gauge swatch for this pattern?

How do you make a slouchy beanie? My sons 20th birthday is on the 22nd and wanted to make one but I'm not sure how. Any suggestions 🤔
@OmiCrochet3 жыл бұрын
For this hat, to make it a slouchy I would probably increase to the point that it is a little bigger than what would normally fit…make sense? Haha! Then make the body of the hat longer. Once you get to the brim you could keep the stitch count the same, or decrease the stitch count a bit if needed. If you’d like, I can put a slouchy beanie on my to do list! :)
