Paul and Korda definitely overrated here. Maybe not so much for Fritz, who others have mentioned before, but Fritz actually has results!!!! But Korda? Korda just lost to FAA 😂(Paul also did lose to FAA and FAA did much worse in that match than against Korda and he lost to FAA anyway, so not on the Paul hype train either) Not to downplay FAA, I really, really hope that he finally has a good year by the way, but Korda never shows up when it matters. At least, so far. Maybe he proves me wrong. Real concerns about Machac, if he is going to be okay - he was about to beat Fritz (showcasing what he is capable of by the way, it was super impressive) before he gave up because of cramps. Lehecka is a bit mystery if he shows up or not, his results last year were the proof of that - always 'has the potential', 'has the weapons', but question is if he actually shows up consistently. Popyrin might seem like a sleeper here as well guy is capable of couple of upsets, shows up great for couple of matches and then he just loses to Arnaldi decisively or something like that, so putting him in a deep run is... probably ill advised. Yeah, also curious how Fonseca and Mpteschi Perricard do as well! Other than that, great discussion, love it as always 😎 (although JW could probably try to be a little more grounded as if he actually were to put money on the predictions, but I suppose that would take away from the fun of it a little 😅).

I've played right next to Boyer for years at my local court, where he trained under the radar. I haven't seen him now for maybe 3 years. My assessment of his game: a one-dimensional baseline player, that is all he ever seemed to practice, groundstrokes and positional hitting.from the baseline. Hopefully he has added some craft to his game. He had a strong junior career but as he was preparing to turn pro, Nakashima just took off and left him and the other SoCal juniors in the dust. Sadly for Tristan, he is from Altadena, so it is hard to imagine he will be in his best place mentally during this tourney after the fire destroyed so much there. I think his career path will be that of a late bloomer, he has a lot of potential. On paper he should beat Coria, but I'm not so sure he will.

Fritz actually plays a lot like Monfils. So, if you pick Perricard over Monfils, but Fritz over Perricard, then something has gone wrong. Fritz likes to play regular tennis hitting from the baseline, but that is if he can get those rallies going. Perricard will not wait for such rallies to go on and on and on; he will break up the rhythm of Fritz. So I pick Perricard over Fritz. The hard surface of the AO is faster than that of the US Open, and those bombs will count so much more in Melbourne.
