people forget that this is figure SKATING. to determine who is a good figure skater look only at the skater's skates during their performance. Adrian did not skate very quickly and his skating skills are not great. yes, he had unusual choreography in which he moved his head, arms, and hands in time to the music, but the movement of his blades was nothing outstanding. weaker skaters will distract you by their upper body movement that is why the so called "wonderful" teenage Russian female skaters are mostly smoke and mirrors.

I'm also American, and I think Takahashi def. deserved the bronze. His short was a masterpiece and much better than Weir's short. In the free, he fell on a quad attempt, but was beautiful otherwise, and the choreography was amazing. I love Weir's skating, but he couldn't overcome the lack of transitions and wrong-edge take off on both flips in the free (and the one in the short). That stuff adds up. I would have placed Weir 4th, as you said, but not third.

Such an emotional evening! Bittersweet for Johnny fans to see an American win gold but have it be Lysacek. Knowing Evan's skating, he sucked out every point he could. Granted, he repeated transitions and simply shuffled their placement through his different programs, but he perfectly gamed the rules to his advantage. Plushenko on the other hand had zero transitions. Ironically, he and Evan tied in the program components ("artistry") and Evan beat him on the technical mark. For all the fuss about the quad, these Olympics (and the previous two World Championships) proved that the quad can't be the only thing you bring to the table when other skaters are churning out points on everything else but the quad. Now that IJS has been around for 15+ years, we get a real hindsight view about its beginnings and evolution up to today.
@hannibaljustincase99852 жыл бұрын
I agree with you. Evan knew how to play the game and even with no 4T at that point(and let's remember it was due to injury while Plushenko was trying to downplay Evan as less talented) he took advantage of the backloading. Plushenko's ego was his biggest enemy, as he thought he could come back to the sport after not competing for 4 years and still be unbeatable- and the funniest part is he nearly was. If it only wasn't such a late decision and he trained more before the season I'm sure he would've won that gold.

@SimonaCB Thx Simona! I read this information a long time ago. I think this is true: Evan got two combo-deductions (-0.56 and -0.40 points) while Plush had only one single jump’s deduction (-0.36). Evan's 1st 3A is ¼ pre-rotated and the 2nd one: - GOE . If Lysa had not executed jumps poorly, he would have not gotten deduction. Evan's 3F was from the wrong-edge but wasn't deducted. Evan's jumps are very small every time, but he get even GOE +2 for it.

Disagree. The free skate is not just about artistry but also about the execution of footwork leading into the jumps and spins. The rotation, speed, and center of the spins. Weir’s short program fell short. Plushenko’s lacked in artistry, edge, and his jumps execution were off.

@WilliamVanLawson Plushenko's total jump GOEs surpass Lysacek by 0.3 point . Lysacek got two combo deductions 3A-2T(-0.56), 3F-2T-2T(-0.40), while Plushenko got one triple axel deduction(-0.36), which means Lysacek's jumps were poorer. Judges simply didn't reflect this in PCS part. Besides, Lysacek deserves Flip edge deduction, which judges didn't do this:2-3 point-deduction. Plushenko's some jumps were tilted, this leads to no bonus points. And this is only the LP' scores!
@WilliamVanLawson13 жыл бұрын
the danger of doing a difficult maneuver is that you expose yourself for scrutiny. And the commentators were saying that Plushenko's performance was very similar to his last Olympic performance in Italy. It was front loaded without much flash left in the last part of his program. I still think that Plushenko has skills that no other male skater has, but then you have to be on top all the time, but especially at the Olympics.
@iloveplushenko12 жыл бұрын
Wikipedia: "Quadruple jump controversy" Plushy's jumps were landed-neither two-foot nor under rotation but Evan did mistakes which are not visible to non specialists.I live in Europe and read and heard many Euro and Asian experts that said Plush's two programs were more difficult and more ambitious and he should have won.And it was so outrageous how after the SP the judges gave both of them the same score so Evan could have a chance to beat Plush. Plush's SP was so much superior to Lycacek's.

He was technically good, but he was stiff way too often, especially in his spins. His artistry and foot work definitely weren't quite there. These judges were clearly spin and foot work fanatics--which is why Lycasek did so well in the scoring. His spins and foot work were the best out there.

There is absolutely NO reason why Plushenko lost to Evan... Plushenko's performance might not have been the cleanest here, but it was a GAZILLION times better than Lysacek's (choreography wise, energy wise, difficulty level) plus you can see how Evgeny gave it his all in this program, he had charisma and was playful with the crowd and the judges, he made the men's program a true spectacle. Lysacek's program was incredibly boring and safe while Evgeny's was interesting and difficult and nothing short of entertaining. Plushenko has panache and is gutsy, Evan played it safe and his choreography was downright simple. And on top of that Weir gets 5th place...??? Seriously, com'on, surely this was a fraudulent event... If the Canadians didn't win anything then I'm pretty sure they wouldn't want the Russians to take home the Gold. These Olympics were disappointing in so many ways.
@nikavance945310 жыл бұрын
Plushenko's program was technically ONE-TENTH point better than Lysachek's. Evan had clearly better execution of the jumps what reflected in GOE. Evgeni's circular step sequence and flying sit spin were both on level 3, while Evan's - on level 4. Both skaters had the same amount of PCS, Lysachek's choreography was better - e.g. he had very interesting transitions and linking footwork. Choreography is not only if the program is interesting and entartaining.
@tptvox10 жыл бұрын
Candy, Plushenko is a phenomenal skater, a great athlete, but there is a difference in what the judges are looking for as opposed to an audience. Plushenko will always be a champion, but Evan Lysacek gave the judges what they wanted by skating the elements cleaner....However, this is no dig on Plushenko. Both Plushenko and Lysacek are great champions with heroic histories. Let's just appreciate them and thank them for their inspiration. The competition is over, now they deserve our appreciation.

uutuber......that is a disgusting thing to say. What is it about the internet that makes people think they can be such dirtbags?

1 point 3 ce qui vaut des millions de $ de retombées pour les USA , je respecte Evan mais Evgueni devait gagner l"or..il le méritait et restera pour toujours un des plus grands avec Alexei.

Lysacek was a very solid athlete but never a skater of remarkable artistry. He just took advantage of the system. What's Evan's legacy? He won but that's it. He will never be regarded as a great champion despite his title.

Kozuka's long program had the best music. And he nailed the quad for the first time. Too bad he struggled in the second half.

Awesome for Frank Carroll who should have coached golds in 1980 (Linda Fratienne) & 1998 (Michelle Kwan).
