Tennis is a very beautiful sport if you understand the science of probability. Paddleball uses a "side out" scoring system instead of Tennis's "rally scoring" system. I don't know of their actual level, but some local highly regarded tennis players that tried out pickleball had some superior athleticism to our local pickleball players. This helped a lot. But they wanted to stick to tennis. I think if they stuck to pickleball they probably would be kicking butt in lets say 4-6 months. They definitely bring a lot of talent to the court, but they are pretty miserable at trying the soft game. They always want to try to over power you. I learned about Pickleball about a year ago. Been wanting to learn how to play since I partially tore my achilles playing racquetball this past March. My tennis I think is over because of that injury. I want to get back on the court but doing something a little slower. This is my first time watching a Pickleball singles match. I have never played Pickleball before. I come from a tennis background. I am going to learn how to play next week. What is interesting about watching singles Pickleball is that it is so much like tennis....the volleys, ball placement and patience not to mention the much smaller court, the weird scoring (like volleyball) and using paddles instead of rackets, wiffle type balls instead of green fuzzy bouncy balls that I am used to. I noticed you only get one chance to get your serve in. It is fun to watch especially the mixed doubles. I am excited to learn this game. It is extremely popular in the Atlanta metro area. I live in rural Georgia, where it is slowly catching on. I will be returning to watch matches to help my game, strategize and idea for a paddle once I get better at it.

It is not mandatory, but if you can hit an accurate return that is deep in the court, it is highly recommended to approach the net line. If your return is less than ideal, or short, then approaching the net sets up your opponent's passing shot in singles.

@dbeaton11115 жыл бұрын
Budge and Tilden were both great athletes who could have competed in the ATP today if they grew up playing with modern equipment, but I take your meaning. The wooden tennis rackets were unforgiving and made tennis more about finesse compared to today's power game. Pickleball does the same thing. The racket surface limits spin and the size of the court and kitchen also limits speed, in most cases, so to be consistent, the play is necessarily more like touch net tennis. Excellent athleticism and speed will give you an advantage in any sport, but not as much in pickleball as in modern tennis. Good hand to eye coordination and a decent amount of agility will take you a long way in pickeball.

Why do they hit it so slow to each other?
@Duffbeeryahoo5 жыл бұрын
It's great how these younger players are super agile and can block nearly every third-shot drive. After reviewing the third-shot drives that were effective for passing shot winners, it seems that the only reason they were able to pass their opponent was because the opponent was slightly late (just a fraction of a second) getting to the kitchen line. Check out Ben at 13:56. I bet that if he sprinted to the kitchen after his return then he would have had just enough time to properly balance himself and split step, which (in my opinion) would have given him the time and speed needed to cutoff Tyson's passing shot. Nearly the same story every time a third-shot drive was hit for a winner. Lesson learned - sprint to the kitchen line after every return to gain the time needed to balance yourself and generate explosive lateral movement to give yourself an extra six inches to block the passing shot that would land on or near the sideline.

Who took 3rd and 4th in this tournament (singles obviously)?
@OldHickory75 жыл бұрын
Just found out. Looks like 3rd place was Joey Farias against Collin Johns (older brother of Ben and ranked 978 in the ATP). Not sure why that couldn't be filmed but all the doubles consolation championship matches are on here. Just because more people play doubles does not mean that more people want to watch it. The same holds true in the other racket sports.

I think serve and strokes are not that fast on the video, if we recorded ourselves it would look much slower then we think...and we would look much older and overweight too...LOL It is same with tennis...live is incredible fast...

Re upload?
@RichardsWorld5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, must be. I know I watched this already, and I remember some of the comments' And I almost always hit like or dislike so I know if I watched the video already or not. This must be a re-upload. It was one of the recent videos that had bad editing. They changed the camera angle when the ball was hit and you couldn't see what the ball did. Maybe they fixed those errors.

The is exactly ping pong yet on a much larger, fancier cement court. We all know table tennis (ping pong) is Olympic calibre, any chance Pickleball makes it in?
