Played tennis from 1972 to 1984 , which is so hard on the lower body , ping pong played 30 yrs , tough with poor eyesight , at age 62 and doing Triathlons since 1985 , this looks like better exercise than golf and lower impact than tennis . Always look for the positive , smaller slower version and healthier than tennis . Looks like something that came from a video game . Nice creation of a simple game .👍

Tennis is a very beautiful sport if you understand the science of probability. Paddleball uses a "side out" scoring system instead of Tennis's "rally scoring" system. "Side out" scoring doesn't respect the beauty of randomized probability. Your score isn't guaranteed to go up when you win a point. It's crazy! It's like winning the lottery, but not getting any money!

I don't know of their actual level, but some local highly regarded tennis players that tried out pickleball had some superior athleticism to our local pickleball players. This helped a lot. But they wanted to stick to tennis. I think if they stuck to pickleball they probably would be kicking butt in lets say 4-6 months. I've seen a lot of people that is said to be high level racquetball players , or former racquetball champs play pickleball. They definitely bring a lot of talent to the court, but they are pretty miserable at trying the soft game. They always want to try to over power you. One guy that plays where we play was a serious squash player, and he puts the most ridiculous spin on almost every shot. I seen another guy he was kind of new, but he is a soccer goalie. That guy was ridiculously fast at the net.

I learned about Pickleball about a year ago. Been wanting to learn how to play since I partially tore my achilles playing racquetball this past March. My tennis I think is over because of that injury. I want to get back on the court but doing something a little slower. This is my first time watching a Pickleball singles match. I have never played Pickleball before. I come from a tennis background. I am going to learn how to play next week. What is interesting about watching singles Pickleball is that it is so much like tennis....the volleys, ball placement and patience not to mention the much smaller court, the weird scoring (like volleyball) and using paddles instead of rackets, wiffle type balls instead of green fuzzy bouncy balls that I am used to. I noticed you only get one chance to get your serve in. It is fun to watch especially the mixed doubles. I am excited to learn this game. It is extremely popular in the Atlanta metro area. I live in rural Georgia, where it is slowly catching on. I will be returning to watch matches to help my game, strategize and idea for a paddle once I get better at it.

It is not mandatory, but if you can hit an accurate return that is deep in the court, it is highly recommended to approach the net line. If your return is less than ideal, or short, then approaching the net sets up your opponent's passing shot in singles.

Budge and Tilden were both great athletes who could have competed in the ATP today if they grew up playing with modern equipment, but I take your meaning. The wooden tennis rackets were unforgiving and made tennis more about finesse compared to today's power game. Pickleball does the same thing. The racket surface limits spin and the size of the court and kitchen also limits speed, in most cases, so to be consistent, the play is necessarily more like touch net tennis. Excellent athleticism and speed will give you an advantage in any sport, but not as much in pickleball as in modern tennis. Good hand to eye coordination and a decent amount of agility will take you a long way in pickeball.

Why do they hit it so slow to each other?
@Duffbeeryahoo
@Duffbeeryahoo 5 жыл бұрын
It's great how these younger players are super agile and can block nearly every third-shot drive. After reviewing the third-shot drives that were effective for passing shot winners, it seems that the only reason they were able to pass their opponent was because the opponent was slightly late (just a fraction of a second) getting to the kitchen line. Check out Ben at 13:56. I bet that if he sprinted to the kitchen after his return then he would have had just enough time to properly balance himself and split step, which (in my opinion) would have given him the time and speed needed to cutoff Tyson's passing shot. Nearly the same story every time a third-shot drive was hit for a winner. Lesson learned - sprint to the kitchen line after every return to gain the time needed to balance yourself and generate explosive lateral movement to give yourself an extra six inches to block the passing shot that would land on or near the sideline.

I have played both tennis and table tennis competitively and neither of them can compare with pickleball. In the valley where I live, there have been 10+ new pickleball courts installed in the last 18 months and are always packed. Meanwhile the tennis courts are gathering cobwebs.

@@jpvn2015 In tennis was number 1 singles in my high school and did well in several tournaments. I was probably what would be considered a 4.0 back then. In table tennis, I have placed in some local tournaments but I never received a USATT rating. I always get a chuckle at hot shot tennis players that come in and think they are immediately going to dominate at pickleball and get their backsides handed to them by a retired couple.

At least second time. I know the first version had some very bad editing. Basically they have lots of cameras. So, in the editing they have to choose which camera to switch back and forth to. The first one had some very bad choices. I remember for sure on a couple shots the video editor switched the camera at a very bad time and you couldn't see the ball being hit or what happened to it. They probably fixed most of those dumb editing errors. There is still some problems like in the interviews Rusty wasn't holding the microphone up to the players so you didn't hear everything.

Just found out. Looks like 3rd place was Joey Farias against Collin Johns (older brother of Ben and ranked 978 in the ATP). Not sure why that couldn't be filmed but all the doubles consolation championship matches are on here. Just because more people play doubles does not mean that more people want to watch it. The same holds true in the other racket sports.

Yeah, must be. I know I watched this already, and I remember some of the comments' And I almost always hit like or dislike so I know if I watched the video already or not. This must be a re-upload. It was one of the recent videos that had bad editing. They changed the camera angle when the ball was hit and you couldn't see what the ball did. Maybe they fixed those errors.
