It's because of the lead-out. The peleton can get up to 60km/h.

@@jorissvd you noob. Pro speed average is about 60+ kph. 70+kph is their sprint. Noob

+RJ Driver agreed it was a great race, I just wish he hadnt been so childish about the bumping. Makes him look like less of a racer trying to win on a fault even though he is an excellent competitor.

A sprint isn't against the clock; it's about who gets over the line first. How long they take is irrelevant.

the one who is behind while sprinting can save a lot of energy, which can be spend on the last lap of the race. Its called Slipstream

The clock starts at 200 metres to go. They play stratigically against each other until they get there to fight for position.

One of hopefuls of young Dutch bmx riders. Just couple of years in track and... Now You know how to achieve such performance at track sprint. I think that Hoy and Stuff have same thing to say.

How boring has become this ... remember the giant Soviet and German, Belgian and even Americans who challenged each other to remain static until 1 or 2 minutes and were really slow measured each other, stopping several times and surprised / spooking each another and especially giving more show to the public ... and of course then exploited on lap and a half ... Before it was like making love with passion, now it seems to want to finish quickie and go to sleep as soon as possible!

I agree. The increase of gear sizes has made the difference. When I race 106" and smaller I can use those old tactics; but in the larger gears we cant sit around, we have to wind it up.
