I am a girl scout ambassador. I just started my 13 year as a scout. Last year my troop earned enough money to go to Switzerland for the Swiss Challenge Camp at the World Center, Our Chalet. We started fundraising in september, and raised $7000 by july of the same year. We hiked a total of 76 miles in one week. We went ziplining, rock climbing, pendulum swinging, white water rafting, and swimming in a glacial lake. I have earned my bronze and silver award, and am currently working on my gold. Ive been to tasmania and singapore. Ive fed the homeless, made clothes, hiked up mt. Fuji, and gone camping several times. Girl Scouts is the best thing that has ever happened to me, and i am so glad that i am a member.

I've been a Girl Scout in Indiana for eleven years, since I was in kindergarten, I can't even express how much it has helped me in life, It has helped with manners and social skills. My favorite part of Girl Scouts is selling cookies, I have always been a top seller, selling an astonishing amount of 2000 boxes of cookies for 7 years in a row now. Selling cookies has helped me with my money skills and people skills, it also helps with knowing how to set a goal and reaching that goal! I'm so sad that I will have to leave the Girl Scouts in 2 years after I graduate high school, it has been my whole life for as long as I can remember. I hope I have a daughter someday that is a Girl Scout and that she loves it as much as I do. Thank you for teaching me to be an amazing woman Girl Scouts, I love you!💚🍀💚

Same but I'm a sophomore. I've been a girl scout since I was four. I was so proud of myself for being the head event coordinator for my council's largest fundraiser of the year and all my friends laughed at me and told me not to be prod of that and that was lame. This video is amazing because there's a very negative stereotypical image of girl scouts making crafts and selling cookies then quitting when they're eight. Being a girl scout is hard work and very rewarding. When my friends try to put me down about it, I just tell them to have fun with student loans while I get a scholarship to a top college because of my gold award and many many service hours. :D :D :D

I've been a girl scout for 7 years now, and some of the badges my troop gets are just plain sad. It depends on your troop leader for what badges we do but still. 1) baby sitting badge. we literally played with toddlers for like ten minutes 2) business statement badge. girl scouts are supposed to be adventurers. I don't see boy scouts doing this 3) this isn't a badge, but all of the girls scout camps are horrible. they cram you in a small cabin with 50 other girls and make you do lame activities 4) reading outside badge. yay. fun. 😐 5) archery badge. I was really excited for this one until I saw that we were reading a book on safety with bows and arrows and then shooting rubber bands. 6) jewelry badge. I JOINED GIRL SCOUTS TO GO CAMPING!! NOT MAKE JJEEEEWWWWEEEELLLRRRRYYYYY Also, my troop leader wanted us to go on a trip with our money we made from selling cookies. I recommend going to a shooting range, or skiing, or kayaking. but instead we went on a field trip. TO PANARA BREAD. like come on! I wish girl scouts were like they were back in the day. camping in tents in the wilderness. knots. hikes. what has society come to? we all talk about women empowermet and equality, but we are literally discriminating ourselves by dividing up the badges for boy scouts and girl scouts like this. this needs to stop.

Troop leaders should put effort into leading their troop if they’re going to do it! I got lucky with a fantastic troop leader and what you experienced is so disappointing. The biggest thing for people is that many don’t change leaders, which you’re usually able to do, to try and find the right fit for you.
@melodyfontaine29476 жыл бұрын
Half of those sound like fun patches, find a different troop that suits you better. My troop does badges we vote on and are camping heavy.
@hannahjones5186 жыл бұрын
Maybe you just need to find a different troop. You could also just do the badges you want by yourself as a Juliet Girl Scout. Or you could just hop over to boy scouts and become a Venture Scout. It is co-ed, high adventure and you will get all the camping you should desire.

I was in girl scouts for like a year in elementary school but I guess our community was so poor that we couldn't actually do anything. I never got a vest or any badges, all we really did was go to random meetings. They stopped the program a few years later
@mrs.alienrope57788 жыл бұрын
it depends on the leaders, i was in junior girl scouts all the way from daisy and brownie. our leader moved away and no other moms wanted to pick up the meetings. We did do stuff, we camped out in our backyards, we did water rafting, we went on mini trips around our area. Its really what the leader did to do it. I know some of the stuff we did might have needed money, but there is stuff leaders can do that doesnt require money. Like camping in the backyard, or going through the woods and picking out plants, etc...
@klaranemcova79578 жыл бұрын
you have mom's as your leaders?? That's weird :D Most of us, who are in charge are about 18, some of them started leading a group when like 15, my friend organised the whole summercamp storyline and games when 17, I know people who are unit leaders at 18 and our PR's boyfriend is 23 and is a head of a local centre...

Whoa, don't got anything against you or Klara, but you might wanna read her comment again; I don't think she's hating on your troop, your mom or the fact that your troop leaders were old, I think she was just laughing 'cos she was surprised since they did things real different in her troop. Really don't mean to offend you, and I don't think Klara did either, especially since if you read her comments she seems like a pretty nice person. Was a Boy Scout once, by the way :)

I feel like a lot of people underestimate Girl Scouts, people just think that all that Girl Scout do is sell cookies, but we do a lot more. I've been a Girl Scout for almost 11 years now and I have done so much to help my community- and it wasn't selling cookies. People always give Boy Scouts more credit for helping the community, but if that's true it's only because a lot more organizations support GS than BS.
@makennaharris46408 жыл бұрын
Very well said. I've been a Girl Scout for almost 10 years now and done way more than sell cookies. I've also earned my bronze and silver among others, going to work on my gold next year.
@user-yb8dc6qp2f8 жыл бұрын
Same I have done it for 8 years. If you think about it we do more than boyscouts, for our gold award we do big projects that impact the community, for the Boy Scout eagle award most of them build a bench, also more Girl Scouts do the project than Boy Scouts. We do more things that do make an impact and we still do outdoors things. Girls scouts rule.
@fionaxx86458 жыл бұрын
Exactly. I finished my bronze award, and recently finished my silver award (hoping to do gold soon) and I did a lot more than build a bench. For the most part I raised public awareness on various things concerning the community.

Fin InHerFandoms I've never done boyscouts (not really my thing) but one of my sisters did girl scouts for my whole life (she's older) until a few years ago and I guess that's why I always kind of knew the girl scouts did a lot more than what people realize because my sister would always tell me about it.

She then went on to say 'when cleaning other parts of your mouth, like the insides of your cheeks with the toothbrush, do not look at the mirror or show people because "your mouth doesn't like that."' Yes, it was about teaching them to think like engineers. If there is a problem that needs solving (also a survival skill) you must figure out ways to solve it, in this case using various materials. Most everyone has a cell phone these days, so it's using those skills in a practical way.

This is pretty much along the lines of what Girl Scouts do in general? You earn badges doing similar things to this. My GS troop was pretty loose in terms of we pretty much just made up our own stuff but this vid generalized it pretty nicely. We did a lot of camping, different activities, and community service. Given, I was in girl scouts roughly 15 years ago but it still seems pretty much the same.

Makayla Scull then call yourself lucky. I'm a boy scout but I've seen nothing in this comment section except stuff like "we never did stuff like this and I was in girl scouts for years" from people. I do see why some girls want to join boy scouts. I really do. But with that positivity comes negatives as well. A girl might be manipulative with her position and do ask the boys to do favors. Or the boys may fight over who gets what girl. This is for those younger scouts. And it worsens if the girls join the terrible boy scout troops that are filled with jerks and idiots. I used to be in one until I left and joined a better troop that even had some of my friends. I do see some troops doing good with the girls but it also changes how the boys will act. Would a boy act as *himself* in front of a girl OR would he try his best to just be calm and nice to her even when she is in the wrong.

Do adventure scouts. It’s like boy scouts but with girls and boys.
@bellareader67726 жыл бұрын
Don’t blame Girl Scouts, blame the troop//mix of girls. The mixture of a troop determines how girls will lead and what they’ll do. There’s about 6 troops in my service unit and let me tell you,, some of the troops are very traditional, some are lowkey,, and there’s are crazy active. Now I’ve been in// visited each one and they are all completely different from the others. So the troop you may have been in just was not a good fit for you.

Well when Girls scouts was started it was because the Boy Scouts would not let the girls join. So, Juliette Gordon Low started the Girl Scouts. Now, they could never be mixed together. The Boy Scouts are very conservative and the Girl Scouts are very liberal.

My girl scouts experience was lame. We never did anything except sell cookies and even then it was stupid. I didn't have a rich daddy so I couldn't sell enough boxes to get a good prize (literally went around my neighborhood for weeks for half the day trying to sell to snotty old people who are too good to buy from me. Joy Andrews sold over 500 because her dad sold them at his company). When we weren't selling cookies all we did was sit around a meeting table and talk about getting some stupid ultimate badge (that we never actually got may I add). All in all I give my girl scouts experience a 2/10.
@haleydee23008 жыл бұрын
Mistinian damn that sucks. I wonder what your troop leader did with the funds. Door to door sucked, i won't lie, people always say no these days. And I somehow sold 1000 boxes but I had booths almost daily. But my end result was worth the work. :( I'm sorry, that sucks.

Some badges are easy some not so much. Girl scout citizenship badges are easy until senior and ambassador but thats because by high school you should be more versed in governmental issues. Boy scout badges are just boy scout badges across the board so they expect a 6th grader to focus on the easier ones and by high school be doing the more difficult ones

As someone who was in Girl Scouts and Civil Air Patrol, I take offense. You don't need to shut down the entire Girl Scouts program just because you don't think it equates to the program you're in at the moment. As someone who was a member of both, I can justifiably say that they both help young kids grow into good people with strong morals. I could go on and on about my experience both Girl Scouts and Civil Air Patrol and what it taught me, but you don't seem to be too open to hearing out a fellow cadet.

As a former girl scout, it's sad to see just how lame and pc girl scouts have become. When I was a scout, we spent our time earning badges in fire building, orienteering, and winter survival. No hula hoops needed. Of course, these are LA girl scouts. I sincerely hope troops in other parts of the country are still holding girls to a more rigorous/adventurous standard. Juliette Gordon Low would turn over in her grave if she saw this.

As someone who has been a girl scout for 8 years and counting, this is pretty close. Note that they did say all of these challenges were only a step in getting the badges. I’ve learned how to shoot a rifle, change a car tire, use a compass, use a bow, check car oil, etc. These were a lot simpler badges that they were trying to earn, and this doesn’t even include the most prestigious gs award of all; the bronze, silver, and gold awards.

The boy and girl scouts in my area and the surrounding towns always worked in conjunction with one another. All of our camping trips and excursions were pretty much done with the boys and from what I saw that was true for most of the scouts so really that crossover has been done in many areas for 10+ years (I was a girl scout from 6 to 14).

Girl Scouts learn mainly the same things as Boy Scouts. Though, due to the headquarters rules.... We don't get to learn some "Dangerous" things, such as learning how to shoot a BB gun. Unlike Boy Scouts who get to learn that, and many more "Dangerous" skills that could potentially save you, or someone else.

The Boy Scouts have these as well. Inventing Badge: This merit badge has nine categorial requirements, including demonstrating adequate knowledge of concepts such as intellectual property, patents, and a prototype vs a finished product, interviewing an inventor, researching patents on one's own camping gear, design an invention, produce a working prototype, and discuss various fields that require inventors. These are just some of the requirements. The Detective Badge: Morse Code is in the handbook, but we do have the Fingerprinting Merit Badge, which, you know, closest thing I can think of. It involves researching and detailing the history of fingerprinting, identifying the differences between various methods of collecting fingerprints, collecting a fingerprint, and listening to your counselor whine about having to go buy the parch at the Scout Store. Cross Training Challenge: The Boy Scouts have the Personal Fitness Merit Badge (they have more, but Personal Fitness is the closest comparison). The merit badge is a nine categorical requirement test. The main part is the Sixth Category, which is composed of four fitness tests: The Aerobic Test, The Flexibility Test, The Strength Test, and the Body Composition Test. These, along with research regarding healthy eating, research how we get diseases and show understanding of these concepts, make a twelve-week fitness plan based on the results of the tests, DO IT, show improvement or you don't get the badge. This isn't all of it, but it's the parts that suck. I feel like the video didn't show the most difficult parts of Girl Scouts. There must be tougher stuff than this, or the stuff they did show was misrepresented. Please tell me this is true.
