Menace to Sobriety

Жыл бұрын

Dan shares his personal experience of feeling the urge to get drunk and use drugs, even after months of sobriety. He reflects on a recent event where he was surrounded by people drinking and how it made him question his own sobriety. Daniel discusses the importance of analyzing his thoughts and emotions in real-time to understand the triggers that lead to cravings. He also talks about the impact of being judged and criticized for his sobriety journey. Dan offers advice on managing the mind and finding purpose during the recovery process.

I used to call it pressing the self destruct button, didnt know where a session was going to end, being alone and the last person standing, out of drink and drugs with Monday morning just around the corner, while everybody else was sensible and ready for the week ahead

This episode is alot more relatable to me because most stop drinking channels make it out that they go to events , party’s and have no urge anymore. I’ve relapsed once in two years and I was in a bar with other pro musician colleagues who were getting on it and the urge came from nowhere and got the better of me. It happens and well done for getting through that experience

Dude, you are an inspiration. You are not alone in those thoughts! I have had the exact same ones that have led me to drink and drugs then I wonder how I got to the same rock bottom every time. The way you reframed it is super positive. The trick and deceit is in thinking you are "normal" like everyone else when it comes to drinks and drugs - but you're not and never will be!

Thank you! What a brilliant video! I had been heavily drinking and smoking for 50 years, totally addicted. Now free for one month. (I know that's not long but for me is good!) Just wanted to say I have watched hundreds of you tube videos on the subject made by professionals and ex addicts which I have found helpful. However, you are the only one to explain in a way that totally resonates with me. Massive help for my life - thank you again!!!

Daps the main thing is you're being honest and owning the situation you found yourself in the weekend. What you're doing is helping loads of people and I bet you're carrying the weight of the people you're helping. I love how you're super aware of your triggers and have built things into your mind to deal with them. Respect where respects due and as for the geezer giving ya stick, it sounds to me that he doesn't suffer from addiction and his opinion is null and void. Have a blessed weekend and be very grateful for what you have and your achievements. Anyone else who's struggling focus on the good not the bad, love yourselves and it will hopefully pass. CA, NA & AA meetings are available all over the UK just Google them and show up it could save your life ❤️ 💙

Thank you so much for doing this podcast so glad I've found it on a weekend that I've seen so many people out in town having a laugh all the pubs I've driven past have been full, I too have had that fear and realisation of shit man this is my life now I will not be like these people living for the weekend to get intoxicated a lifestyle that is so heavily ingrained and nurtured In to us from such a young age and to be honest it made me feel boring and angry at myself for not being able to control my drink and drug use like other people can it also made me question the past 10 months of me being sober So thank you again for this podcast it's really nice to know I'm not alone in those thoughts and other people facing sobriety have these thoughts and feelings too. Big respect dan and please keep on with these podcasts they help more than you could ever know

keep it goin brother..... i battle every day. i paint houses all day on my own thinking about how today is gonna be different.. i have positive thought patterns throughout the day and attach negative thoughts to drinking. then it gets to the witching hour... when its half an hour to the offy closing and i cave in. then ill hit the pub on the way back so i can feel like a normal person having one pint. i did 4 years straight with no problem then out of nowhere im just stuck in this cycle.

Im the same in the sense it was always to get absolutely fucked and not know when it would end , lifes so much more productive without it and although ive had a few drinks in the past 5 months i do think about how it will affect my next few days / mindset now and that becomes a strong motivation not to drink! When it has potential to lead you to the darkest of places where its led me it would be stupid not to think about it.

Dunno who to talk to its 2:10am im waiting for a packet to be dropped in my letterbox. After already doing £80 worth this afternoon and this evening. I've got problems that are not just top shelf related. I went 16 weeks sober last year felt much better in myself after about a month in. Was offerd a flick after 16 weeks i took it and thought i could now control my drinking and coke taking but that was November last year. I've been bang at it everyday since I'm not working I'm living off people close to me and im pushing the people i love and i know love me further and further away. I'm literally not lying when i say that my friends and family would be better off with me not around. I haven't got the bollox to take my own life. But i must be at least 5/6 stone overweight and every line or can i have i honestly think that this might blow my heart to pieces. And if i live through it people will know how bad things have got for me. I bury my head in the sand every single day. The last few months are really starting to take its toll. Funny thing is I'm sniffed up now and I'll be the same at this time tomorrow but ive got absolutely no fight left in me completely given up on myself and life. Sniff and drink make me think that things aren't that bad and I'll sort everything out in the end.

Feel like such a twat finding and listening to this at 4:06 am after being on it it’s not even enjoyable Iv wasted time I could have been doing other stuff drank loads and didn’t even get the cherry feeling coz of the gear .. my partner has always done it we’ve been together 13 years I never tried it or wanted to .. and I tried it last year just a little bit used to have a good time at party’s with people sweat it out dance have a laugh .. and be okay .. now I’m sitting on my sofa after sitting in the kitchen all night wasn’t even going to do it tonight but once it’s there my fucking willpower just breaks like a prawn cracker the worst part is my family never goes without I’m always there we never miss out the days are normal as they would be if I hadn’t .. and that’s the stupid excuse used to justify it I don’t even know why I do it anymore its not even fun it’s such a slippery slope I went 2 weeks no drinking no gear felt fine didn’t care .. I got super stressed needed to chill out and bam back to no fing discipline no willpower I regret it every time the night comes to an end I wish I could catch myself In the moment before that first line and remember how I feel at the end of the night .. like do I get a tattoo on my finger something I can’t rub of to snap my brain out of it the only thing that kind of helped was an elastic band round my arm every time I thought of it I pinged myself and I know I know shock therapy or arm flicking is probably considered some kind of SH but it worked and it’s gota be better than the other ain’t it ?? what else is there in that moment that I can use I can just cover the writing on my hand I mean it’s not all the time but the fact I regret it shows i shouldn’t the doing it sorry for the rant .. can’t talk to anyone about this I get the fomo all the time I was a good person wasn’t judging anyone but didn’t need to partake now I’m the one wanting to stay up and there is no fomo because I’m the only one doing it … feel like a fing idiot 😓

When you get that feeling ohh no I need a drink or talk about it a lot it’s a problem called alcoholic behaviour we all do It it also it’s in illness but we do recover working on the stigma and support 💚👏 no one really wants to admit it alcoholic 😫

While you are doing sobriety, the addiction inside is weight lifting at the gym.. if you go on a sesh that addiction is unleashed stronger than last time. The sesh will last 6 months.

The guy who gave you shit ...i think, has a bit of a case of jelous-itis. Maybe he wishes deep down that he was as articulate insightful and warm hearted as you clearly are.
