It was hilarious that players actually thought Nekroz was the first Ritual deck to dominate the game. I can understand newer players saying this. Nice to see people still remember the legendary Demise OTK. Priority was the stupidest thing Konami ever did. Glad they got rid of it.

One thing that keeps me attached to Yu-Gi-Oh above other TCGs is this game's history. This game has had such a beautiful progression from basic beatsticks to control decks to gimmicky otk decks back and forth for 15 years now in the TCG, and videos like this are absolutely amazing as history lessons. Looking back at this stuff gives me a sense of nostalgia for the "old times" even though I haven't always been there for them. I've been waiting for a channel or series dedicated to the subject of Yu-Gi-Oh history for years because it's the main reason I love this game so much. Thank you CapG for putting so much research and dedication into this video, and I hope to see a lot more in the future.

Demise was the top deck when I first started playing Yugioh competetivly way back in the day. My small brain was totally blown away by having my field nuked and then dunked on by some cool blue ritual monster. Left an impression. He's been my favorite card ever since.

Even tho Konami hated ring of destruction for stealing games and complicating tournament management due to draws, it was the perfect card to counter people splashing solemn cards in the deck, thus resolving in a more diverse format without the need for a card to get hit. If they would put actual counter cards back in the legal status, the game wouldn't need as much hits to have healthy formats and at the same time people could work with more resources...

Built Demise OTK without knowing how destructive it was because I didn't netdeck. Won my first Local - Emergency ban the next week. Didn't even know what an Emergency Ban was. Used Maju and Blue-eyes with Monster Reborn and Preme in the game then.

I played YGO from all the way back in the Yugi/Kaiba format up until right around when Blackwings started to take over the game in 5D's. Watching this was a great blast from the past, and like you said at the end, just seeing Demise's art in the thumbnail put the fear of God in me. I still remember running Perfect Circle in a Regionals and losing 3 games in a row to Demise, haha.

Oh man I was at shounen jump champ Anaheim, playing 6sams and super hyped because i won locals for the first time the night before, beating chimera tech OTK which had been giving me problems. I actually didnt lose to any demise otk decks I played because i would waboku and threatening roar every time when demise was out and wiped my grand master who I just got back to my hand and spammed more 6 sams the next turn with zanji and great shogun getting over their board or ring of destruction demise when he hit the board and the guys scooped.. also beat out some perfect monarch decks too and people where salty at how *broken* 6 sam spamming was lol. I was more salty the guy who I beat at my locals the night before went and copied my deck but could afford the 3 card troopers I couldn't and got top 32. I got to the top table's but had a match against chimera tech otk and bricked with 2 great shoguns and a 6 sam in my hand but couldn't draw another and I got beat to death b ya dekoichi.

Well just my opinion but it's not that great nowadays. Not even in a fun way. It worked back then because things were much slower. If you opened a bad hand you could stall out a few turns. Plus Demise costs too many LP, and with all the stuff that floats, you'll be activating it multiple times therefore if for some reason you can't OTK your opponent they're going to OTK you next turn every time. Plus like Cap said there was no real hand traps back then. Ghost Ogre would destroy Demise and Ash Blossom can stop ARA from going off. I mean I've tried this deck and works occasionally when you get the perfect hand, throw in pre-prep and a bunch of Manjus. Maybe a Blue-Eyes engine with Trade-In? Idk again just my opinion but if you wanna play a nuke the board and OTK deck I'd play a Lightsworn/Judgement Dragon Turbo.

I love this deck. I heard about it on the internet back in the day and gave it a try in the DS game at the time. It is as powerful as it sounds. I still like to play this deck in the newer games. Not as effective as it once was, but it still packs a punch if you know how to work it.

I've actually got a Demise and Ruin ritual deck as a personal favorite of mine, if we're talking casual gaming. Impcantations are a huge time-saver and I just use the level 4 and 10 ritual variants instead of the level 8 shown here. I can reliably get "Demise, Supreme King of Armageddon" or his wife, "Ruin, Supreme Queen of Oblivion" onto the field.

I topped the regional tournament in Anaheim the next day after the sjc with demise otk. I played perfect circle during the sjc and had 2 losses at the end of the day so the next day I entered the regional with my “fun demise deck” and was 5-0 then lost once and won out. I ended up getting 4th I think

Nekroz is a full archetype. Demise, King of Armageddon is not. There's only Demise, Ruin, and their ritual spell. Three cards don't necessarily make an archetype.
