Here it is 2018 and I still LOVE my 2002 FZ1. 16 years old and 45,000 miles later, it still romps all over any 600 sport bike in stoplight wars and many liter super bikes with less than experienced riders. Was/is a great bike.

Had two Bandit 12's, a Fazer Thou, an FZ1s, and a Hornet 900. The Hornet was a revelation, but out of all the bikes I have ever owned, and there were plenty, the Fazer was the best.

I've previously had three Fazer Thou's and now on my forth. I LOVE the old carbed model. It can commute, tour, speed and just be fun fun fun. It's true its suspension is a tad soft and the front end can get a bit light round the twisties if you push it, but it has very assured handling and despite me having no plans to sell my current B-King, I have to say that the Fazer is my fave bike for the 30 years I've been biking daily!
gotta agree the fazer was one of the best in its class. Used to own a fazer. Love the handling and great top speed.

The Guzzi pulls to the right due to the shaft effect. NOPE! It pulls to the right because the crankshaft is in line with the motocycle, rather than across the frame, perpendicular to the track. ALL engined that have their crank inline with the wheels do this, even if they are chain drive!

Those Top Ten may have been out of budget for some people when new in 2002. They could make great bargain bikes today. I actually have an 02 FZ1 and with some (OK, many) tweaks and mods it puts out 146 rwhp. It's still a contender even at 16 years old and 45,000 miles.
@bigt42416 жыл бұрын
@@j.thomas7128Yep. That's exactly what brought me here. Bought my first big bike SV650 a 4 months ago but now looking around at what will be next (*coming Spring). Fazer 1000 was actually at the top of my list so was good to watch this and see it confirmed as a good bike! 😉
@j.thomas71286 жыл бұрын
@@bigt4241 SV650 is a great bike. In the US, the Fazer 1000 is called FZ1. I will attest to how good the bike is. I wont get rid of her. Can't get rid of her. I like your choices so far. I've also had a 919 Hornet which is another great bike, but nowhere near the power of the FZ1. For about $1500 in parts, plus a good tune, you can get 160-165 bhp which is about 140rwhp out of it. Its enough to make any 600 look silly every time and if you catch a supersport liter off guard, you'll pull away for a while. And, you can do that with touring bags and a 49 degree lean angle. Plus, its fun to customize. I have an R6 shock and other R6 and R1 bits. GET A FAZER 1000! But, whatever you think you'll spend on tires; double it! Ha!

@@j.thomas7128 I've got the same 2002 FZ1 been a great bike as you say a tire shredder, I ride out with a few guys whith later sports bikes they can't believe how quick the old girl goes.I like the way you have to take the bull by the horns an wrestle the damn thing , front tyres last ages because there rarely on the floor had mine 15 years cant find anything to equal it for the money 🤙🏴
@j.thomas71282 жыл бұрын
@@peterbalac1915 Wonderful! Great bike indeed and yes, you are 100% correct. If your countersteering isn't well practiced, it takes a fair bit of muscling to get the bike to set into the lean angle. Turn in is very heavy and not very quick, but once set you can lay the bike in excess of 50 degrees (rear tire size/profile slightly changed) for insanely steep carving turns. Also, when making fast corner exits, you really need to pull up hard on the bars on exit to upright the bike quickly and get back onto power. I have frame sliders on mine and there's so much lean angle that I have been grinding the fork sliders down. If you have modification questions, then ask away... I've gotten mine past 160 rwhp @sea level, improved the braking, suspension, and lightened the bike considerably. For an upright bike with handlebars, banana seat, and comfortable rearsets, it handles so well. Cheers to many safe and fun riding miles!
