The main thing I'm seeing with these bike reviewers is that it's always about the speed. Once you've had your first powerful bike and got the speed out of you all you want is a comfortable and reliable bike. It's not about the speed it's about the experience of riding.

The first generation twin bug eye bikes are the best looking Speedies ever produced and look far better than recent upgraded Speedies. Too bad the Hornet 900 didn't make the list. I've got one here in the States(2004)...with a CBR900RR header/single exhaust and bar risers with a Rizoma bar- it's the most perfect "all rounder" I've ever had, I doubt I'll ever sell it. Granted, I've done some things to bike to refine it: New front springs with 15wt fork oil, dropped the fork around 12mm and a Hagon rear shock....but it really does everything well on the street and can hang with the liter bikes at non-insane speeds and/or tight twisties. I bought it around 5 years ago for $2500(around 2000 pounds) with 18K on the odometer...I could sell it now with the market as it is and probably double my original investment...lol....but I'll never do it. It's light and the re-cammed CBR motor has monster mid-range and still enough of a high RPM hit to be fun. The F series windscreen I added makes it tolerable for weekend jaunts to the mountains too. I just love it. (Can you tell? lol)

It’s so funny to hear you observe that the Street Triple is so commonplace. Word you used was “shed load!” I live in Miami and have been researching & seeking a Street or Speed Triple for a few months now. They are sparse here! The local dealers will sometimes have 1 or 2. One of the bikes will be an awesome RS and get sold the day it hits the market, and the second one will be boring and sit on the floor for weeks. So on I look! I ride a 2019 Z900RS and a 2013 CB1100, and they are both a rarity here. Yanks aren’t as passionate about buying good, high quality motorcycles and maintaining / improving them for 10+ years. Thank you for your excellent content, keep it up! 🙇♂️

Not particularly fond of the looks on the newer shiver. Best year for looks is the first year with a golden trellis frame, golden handlebar, silver paint scheme and all in all a more premium look with embossed aprilia-logo on the tank etc. But I love riding my shiver. As a daily rider for commuting, weekday spirited driving fun and reliability it's brilliant! The V-twin gives it a very nice and balanced torque curve and power delivery that keeps you from driving like a lunatic at all times. Some bikes just don't like being babied and demand on-throttle action to keep them from lugging, the aprilia does just fine without lugging on part-throttle.

Why buy from a shop and not direct? Outside of having a collection for a video, of course. I've never seen a shop that didn't ridiculously charge more for used bikes. Advice on buying a bike: Do you research. Pick multiple bikes you'd be happy with. Set a budget. Figure travel/shipping into the price. I've found some of my best deals on the other side of the country and outside the country (which is another story). Talk. Look into lesser utilized venues (e.g., estate sales). Don't be afraid to ask people (e.g., drive-bys, barn finds, etc.). Browse ads (e.g., Craigslist, etc.) daily. Don't insult people with low ball offers (when people do this to me, especially since in print ads I include verbiage about it, I raise the price). Be ready to commit and buy at a moment's notice. All this and more can be yours for free for the price of... (having) common sense. It's gotten me great deals. Knowing how to take apart and put bikes together again helps. Bike doesn't start when you go see it? Jackpot. Costs a lot less now. The number of bikes I've seen for sale that simply needed basic maintenance or troubleshooting... 95HP... not very spicy. Haha. I've been on plenty of bikes with less than 30HP that have lots of spice - and smiles. What does that type of HP have to do with the quality of a bike? Unless you just want to set speed records. Heck, even if you're into track day - all sorts of bikes are fun there. Not a bike, but some of the most fun I had at a track was when a friend took their short bus (haha - I know) (which they later converted). That was excited - and a bit terrifying. I just read an article with a title along the lines of "5 things bike reviewers need to get over". I've since read a few others. Most of the things they talk about are spot on. Insofar as the bikes featured in this video, I would've selected the Triumph. From other comments, it looks like I'm not alone.

Ive owned 2, Z1000 's and a Speed Triple. I cant really compare the 2. The Z1000 is so easy to mod with ZX6 and ZX10 parts and getting rid of those stock cans sheds a crazy amount of weight. Both bikes sound and perform equally as great for what they are. The Z is much quicker while the Triple has that stomping torque and comfortably. It doesnt feel like a naked sportsbike. And my 1st gen 1050 did not have a quality feel. And was the only bike ive ever owned brand new. As for the Aprilia, ive never seen one in the US. When they came out the reviews weren't that good. Id have to say for a bike over 20yrs old, and i see them selling for 3 grand.... it takes the crown 👑

Thank you for including Aprilia in your comparison, I have my eyes on one from 2012 but I am not sure if to get one mostly because of the not to good opinion about Italian reliability, otherwise it ticks all the boxes for me, vtwin, brembo calipers with abs, slick exhaust especially an aftermarket one with a deeper sound and not last some exclusivity in a world full of Japanese motorcycles.
@jackyfrigaux10062 жыл бұрын
Aprilia don't seem to fit the Italian stereotypes on reliability. I have my Shiver for over ten years and used to have some battery and starting issues and these were all solved when I switched to a lithium battery. Because it has been faultless so far, I have no idea whether replacement parts are easy to find. Stock sound is quite good actually
