Where would this guy’s philosophy differ from say Jean Jacque Rousseau?

Probably on quite a bit considering the time difference, the location, and the circumstances that were surrounding the two authors. We plan to cover Mencius more in the future so you can learn more about him more as we make more.

Rousseau: >Pro-Enlightenment thinker that believes a liberal state is the only way to solve human suffering and was willing to use argument and violence to achieve it. Mencius: >A Traditionalist thinker who believed that benevolence, righteousness, wisdom, and propriety refine an individual's character. Did not believe that argument or violence were effective means of coercion-- only a sage (virtuous ruler) could bring order to the Kingdom. They could not be more different. Reading Mencius is much easier than reading Rousseau (as it requires less prerequisites, though, I would argue it is harder to practice). I would recommend you start with Confucius, his history, ancient Chinese history, etc. and then work your way through the Western Tradition till you get to Rousseau.
