I would give this 100 likes if I could. I haven’t heard many CELLO players play it much better than this.

Then I'm sorry to be the first one to let you know that you're deaf. This was a brilliant performance, but this cello sonata doesn't sound better on any other instrument than it does on the cello.

@@euomu I was mainly talking about the musicality and virtuosity of the performance, not the timbre of the instrument. Though admittedly the sound here is not very good. It's not terrible, but nowhere near as good as it could be. Under studio conditions her bass sounds noticeably sweeter, clearer, and richer, and there it really does sound as good as any cello in my opinion, with the addition of more low and midrange warmth and fullness, along with a certain bite. To me a cello just sounds sort of thin and weak by comparison. :)

Incredible how extensive the musical expression of a double bass can be :0)
Such a clear and joyful performance, maybe the piano covers your beautiful voice sometimes. What a voice, what an intonation ! And very beautiful Charles Quenoil "contrebasse", with gamba shoulders!

You are a truly splendid musician, and I don’t believe anyone could reasonably denote the bass playing as compared to cello alternatively in this case , as you play the contrabass with such grace and extraordinary capacity... brilliance!

Que suerte que en el mundo haya este talento, increíble, toda la vida tocando el contrabajo y que salga una artista de este calibre, es una suerte para la música y para la humanidad, grande.

Your bass playing is both remarkably musical and at a superb technical level. I only wish this recording was balanced in a manner allowing me to hear virtually every note from the bass without any being covered by the piano. I'm less interested in hearing some auditory position in that room re-created than an ideally balanced presentation. The bass playing is so extraordinary it really deserves no less. This is, in no way, a criticism of Jaemin Shin, piano. He is brilliant. Perhaps there will yet be such a recording. Aside from that minor caveat, you, Mikyung, and Jaemin present this excellent Sonata at a level I have not heard previously from any bass performance (which are few and far between). This is at the level of the very finest cello performances. Wouldn't that be something if Mendelssohn could hear this! I think he'd be absolutely astounded :)

tell the pianist to play softer. At some parts the bass is very low.

Perez E. N. To be fair, I was surprised to hear some cello performances with the same problem. But yes, double bass is the quietest and least penetrating of the string instruments when played as a solo instrument, so it’s a perennial problem. I think he’s playing about as quietly as he can.
