The Minneapolis Symphony Orchestra performs Mendelssohn's Hebrides Overture aka Fingal's Cave on March 19th, 1949 conducted by Dimitri Mitropoulos.
This is one of the very last concerts with Mitropoulos conducting the Minneapolis Symphony Orchestra, as he had already accepted an invitation to co-direct the NY Philharmonic.
I believe this is part of a series of young person's concerts run several days in a row in March of 1949. I have another reel that is just the program announcement for the show on March 17th, which also included Fingal's Cave. In that program announcement they also mentioned that this was one of Mitropoulos last concerts in Minneapolis. That program also included 4 pieces performed by the great Chilean pianist Claudio Arrau - I hope I can find that reel!
