When I listen to this music from a large cathedral organ, I feel the presence of God more than I feel the presence otherwise!!

There are many Reocrdings of the Mendelssohns-Sonatas. I am stunned, that the best one gets just so low attention. Sound of the organ, the speed, accents, I couldn't wish it any better. My compliments. ..although, after hearing it another time, I think the Pedal-Trumpet is much too loud, it's oversounding quite a lot of the rest

Het tweede deel van elke sonate is altijd heel bijzonder. Ik gebruik het altijd om te spelen tijdens de kerkelijke communie.

Schitterend - zijn pianomuziek en symfonieën zijn van hoog niveau maar waar Mendelssohn wat mij betreft het meeste in uitblinkt is de muziek die in het verlengde van de Duitse kerkmuziektraditie ligt. Deze orgelsonates, de Paulus, of de door hem nieuw leven in geblazen interesse in het vertolken van de werken van J.S. Bach, die voor zijn tijd vooral werden gezien als een reliek uit het verleden dat als studiemateriaal en inspiratie diende, maar niet op het podium te horen was.

Zoooo mooi! Instrument, uitvoering en opname. Nu hadden de microfoons van mij nog ietsjes dichter bij de pijpen mogen staan om het aanspreken beter te kunnen horen, juist omdat je dat in de kerk live nooit zo heel goed hoort en dat op een opname dus wel goed mee kunt nemen. Maar goed, dan komen we terecht in de filosofie van het opnemen......

I never paid any attention to Mendelssohn until these amazing organ works .I suppose you do not have to be a baroque composer to be amazing

Have you heard Mendelssohn's Paulus yet? Actually it exists in an English translation which was also conducted by himself but the best recordings are all in German due to the work having stayed in the standard repertoire only in continental Europe. It's a combination of Romantic era harmonic and melodic language and heavy influences from Bach's oratorios.

This is a kind remark of course. However, I do have some questions regarding the 'God bless you'. Do you wish your God to bless the organist because of his 'heroic effort', and is that also a prerequisite for such a blessing according to you? Or does that God in fact only bless those who make a real effort? A God for the workers! Nice, seemingly protestant, conservative ethic, and at the same time not because in protestantism grace is only through faith, not works.
