Meng Whippet WW1 Tank Model Unboxing

In keeping with our recent WW1 builds we unbox Meng's beautiful Mark A Medium tank - or more commonly known as the Whippet. Meng's offering is considerably cheaper than the comparable recent Takom release but lacks some of the "frills" such as photo etch and posable hatches. Although the Meng offering could be considered no frills - no figures, photo etch, or stowage items are included - the kit engineering is superb and the molding and detail is exquisite. No compromise where it counts in this kit. Meng also has a boxing that contains figures for a marginally higher price so if dioramas are your thing, that may be a great option. Thanks Vic. After handling the plastic the quality is consistent Meng. No frills kit but what we get is superb. The bolt detail is a pin-washer's dream and what's not to like about a clunky dinosaur like the 'ol Whippet. Bet you'll love building the kit!

Hi JS. From the box contents it definitely shows promise. Not too many parts, Meng quality and affordable. And it's an ugly fellar so what's not to like? Have to finish the Liberty Truck first than on to this bad boy. Thanks for the note

This kit has been on my shopping list for a long time and I'm looking forward to your build Tom. Your FT-17 build inspired me to make the xsame kit for myself so we'll see if you can inspire me to buy this Whippet too!

Great note JC. Likewise comments like yours inspire me to keep slogging through these videos. Better build something in the meanwhile since I still have to finish the Liberty truck. I really want to dig into the Whippet but I have this self imposed oddity where I try not to leave anything unfinished. Still how can you resist? The kit is quite cheap to buy, is of excellent quality and it's part count is manageable. And how can anyone resist this metal box on wheels? It's so ugly its beautiful! Thanks again JC, always nice reading your notes.

Got this bad boy in the stash, she will be built and painted as a captured german tank, in a dio with german storm troppers following behind.

I like dio building but it takes me forever, and the figures are always a painting adventure. Still depicting a captured Whippet is something that piqued my interest when to my surprise I discovered the crosses on the decal sheet. Not sure if the Germans left the tank in its original British colours or whether they went with their team-colour grey. All the same your dio idea sounds interesting.

Hi Joseph, thank you for the note. Wondering why you decided to go with Fruil tanks - just prefer the look and feel of the metal links? Are the kit tracks okay to use too? @@stevieRay3211 to me, the metal tracks are just beautiful. They articulate and just give the model a more realistic look however, that realism comes at a price... They are very tedious to assemble. 😊

Throw in your tank wheels and it makes for a few quiet evenings of pensive meditation. Still using Friulmodel tracks is something I have to try sometime as few people have mentioned them. Good luck with the build.
