Injury-related osteoarthritis is not something you have to grin and bear. It is a fixable condition. There are alternatives to treating knees, which can help delay or avoid an artificial knee replacement. Even in cases with advanced damage, knees can be biologically reconstructed by carefully regenerating and rebuilding tissues instead of cutting out large parts and replacing them with metal and plastic.
---
Dr. Stone developed the BioKnee program to replace, regenerate or rebuild damaged portions of knee cartilage and injured ligaments using advanced biologic techniques, including a stem cell paste graft and a meniscus allograft transplant while preserving as much of the natural biology of your knee as possible.
Dr. Stone is one of the world’s leading experts in meniscus transplantation and a pioneer of biologic orthopedic techniques. For over 25 years, he and his team have specialized in giving people back their vital meniscus shock absorbers, keeping the knee moving naturally, and reducing the likelihood of a total knee replacement.

Hey :) I‘m currently 17 y/o and recently had a lateral meniscus transplant in my right knee. This was my 6th operation concerning my menisci. My left knee has to be done, as well in future. I‘m very grateful for the possibility of gaining my activity back or so the say not back but gaining mobility after having knee problems since I was 6 years old.

hi there, I'm 32 and I live in Michigan and had a meniscus transplant in June on my medial side of my left knee at Rush in Chicago. I also have a history in that same knee: 1. tore my ACL in high school, repaired/replaced with allograft ACL and had lateral meniscal debridement (40%) 2. tore my reconstructed ACL at 22 years old, repaired/replaced with patellar tendon autograft and medial meniscal debridement 3. tore my medial meniscus at 25 because I stepped in a hole and had further debridement 4. had a twisting injury last year and had a total medial meniscectomy in early 2021 (no ACL graft damage. approximately 2.5-3 mm of tibial translation and no hardware damage) 5. received a medial meniscus allograft in June 2021 and surgery was deemed successful 5a. surgeon's team told me that I had mild chondral surface softening but really no noteworthy arthritic conditions (thankfully) I'm 14 weeks out from surgery and nobody can really tell me what is "normal" at this stage. I have good ROM, but my flexion is limited to about 120 degrees because the fluid in my knee. There is far more lateral swelling than there is medial and that has me concerned and I'm just wondering how often you see patients experience such prolonged inflammation and swelling and how long before you patients recovery seem to plateau? at 3 months, would you be concerned to see a patient still struggling to walk without a limp and dealing with nagging swelling/stiffness?

Wow. Can one return to road running after a meniscus transplant ? I only have 30% of my lateral meniscus due to a football injury when i was young. I tore my ACL which has been fixed. I would love to run again. I run 5km on the treadmill with not too much discomfort, just a bit of tightness and tension, but after a day or two its ok again. The treadmill absorbs allot of the shock one would get running on the road. Would love to run 10km on the road again.

Sorry for the late reply. The Stone Clinic has certainly helped people back to running, with patients running short, casual distances to some running competitively in Ironman competitions with a meniscus implant. Additionally, with advances in implant technology and robotic-assisted surgery guiding the implant placement, even patients with knee replacements are returning to running. Providing a couple links here: 1) that gives a comprehensive guide to the options available for knee repair www.stoneclinic.com/saving-my-knees and 2) links to articles related to running by Dr. Stone www.stoneclinic.com/blog/tag/running
