I am so thankful to you, Tessie! You are my friend. I am moving to the East coast. Things will be very different for me. I do know one thing, though, you remain the same. I will continue to have this community, where ever I go. My parents need my help, but at night, I will turn my oil lamp on, and watch your/our videos together, with everyone in this community. :)

My vocation is family! I have always required beds made first thing. Tip-top. I always say, that is one thing you have been successful at this day and more successes are coming. Now I am a barefoot girl as we only had good shoes for school or church. I also cook from scratch. I find no joy in taking short-cuts from the store even though I am serving just my hubby and I these days. Yes, gardening, a big part of the day. Chickens, livestock, pets, important part of the day. Good manners - yes mam' and yes sir. Respect shown to all. Our children are crying out for family!! Great memories of making food together. Playing board games, doing puzzles. We would pick a chapter book to read, yes, The Hobbit and read a chapter or two each night, some nights getting so into the story, we just kept reading. I too collect old cookbooks, but my most valuable possessions are the handwritten pages of recipes passed down. You know the matriarchs did not write down recipes, they created them from heart and what was on hand, always adding more and more love. Tessie life is a recipe and you are a very important ingredient.

Brilliant way to look at making beds, I'll have to share that with my children! Reading to children is important. I read the Bible to them a chapter at a time and we study, but I also like to read fiction books to them, even though my oldest ones read on their own. From the youngest 9 month old to the 13 yr old. They sit around me, and for just a few minutes everyone is tuned in and together. We started with the Little House series, and right now we're reading a sweet series called Heartwood Hotel. I hope more parents in my generation turn to the older ways and values.

I couldn't agree with you more Teresa. I am really looking forward to your old way of living series. Whatever that entails I know I will enjoy it. I am also happy to report that my daughters 4 hour surgery was almost a success! The neurosurgeon has another area he wants to remove. He could not get to it from behind her eyebrow bones without risking the safety of her eyes but will let her heal and go back in later. From the bottom of my heart I want to thank each and everyone of you who prayed for my daughter. She has been bed ridden due to her orbital pain for the last 8-9 years. Not even being able to come out of her bedroom to be a part of family get togethers. She use to say she felt like she was dead and was watching her life go on without her. Most of her pain is gone! We have taken her all over the world for surgery and this one was the best. The power of prayer is so strong. Thank you again everyone and God Bless.

I started reading a old book once and they made door hinges out of leather, I lost the book before I could learn more and would like to find more like that but where? Growing up I experienced getting eggs out of the hen coop, saw milk flowing through glass pipes into the tank on a dairy farm that belonged to my uncle's parent's. Things my kids never got to do. My grandmother's house was over a 100 years old, the white columns on the front porch were tree trunks and the rafters in the attic still had tree bark on the edges. One thing schools need to teach kids but don't is how to survive if you had to like grow your own food and how to treat the plants that are insect infested or if it looks poorly with wilt or yellowing leaves. We are so dependant on readily available products and no clue how to begin to do for you self should the need arises. Modern things are nice but we should never forget the old ways for we may have to rely on them one day.

Just wondering why the skull? Jesus is life. I see so many people wearing or collecting skulls these days. I asked someone once about it and they said it represents death.

What a great video, Tessie. I love all the Ruth Goodman series and have all the books and have watched all her different series over and over. They are wonderful. I also love Ruth Mott and Harry Dodson's show and books. I get such a peaceful feeling reading or watching any of these. Thank you for sharing your books and thoughts! Hugs to you, Tessie! xoxo

My Grandad ran a small holding and dairy over the war years in Norfolk, England and my Mum remembers sitting on the backs of the Shire horses whilst Grandad was ploughing and I try to live simply and rurally as much as I can in my Victorian home but my Mum just doesn't understand it, she is glad to be away from the struggles of that lifestyle and she thinks I'm going backwards, but I like to think the family genes are coming out in me and I love how close my choices make me feel to my Grandparents. I've been planing my swollen wooden doors today and I didn't once wish for double glazing, I'm glad I can care for my home with my labour and my tools. That Women's fulfillment book looks wonderful. X xx

your mom and mine were the same/she knit but the rest was the same and I have admit I have not completely followed in her shoes but I was a stay at home mom/and housewife and although NOONE else in my life could understand my being satisfied with that role but my mom did and respected my role greatly, I am so thankful I had a mom that taught me to take pride in home life/I have no regrets with that role. If I had to do it all over again/I would do the same thing

I love the old ways and appreciate some of the modern. I'm a widow, but still sit at the table for meals, and only drink water with meals to "aid the digestion." Old Baltimore German-style 😉. Thank you for sharing your day, Tessie.

I really love your "this and that" type videos as well as the ones where you just talk and work. I find myself playing them and doing my own work at the same time. Working "together" makes the job so much more fun. I find that when I watch YOU do your dishes, I am more apt to want to go wash my own dishes and the same with laundry and cleaning.

I'd have a good laugh at some if not most of the things in those books, especially what women were "supossed" to do. I always said it's a good thing I was born when I was, because I'd been stoned to death because I question everything, and do only what I want. Love ya girl! ❤

I was 23 and had been married almost 2 years when 1970 arrived. Raised in a traditional, conservative family, I was ready for the opposite and in my So. CA beach town being a barefoot flowergirl/Cosmo girl headed to Europe on adventure was a nice break from gardening and canning. By 1978 I had come full circle, my daughter was age 5 and I was living in the rural country side, raising chickens & goats and cooking on, and baking in, a 150 year old wood stove. Church and home school were held in a barn 3 miles away. My books were from Rodale Press and my magazines.... Mother Earth and the newest seed catalogs. These many years later I still have my country homemaker library and all of my mom's homemaking books 1940 - forward. Many similarities in all of them and each decade of books was seemingly written written to the 'modern housewife of that time. Looking at all the books I have collected and shelvesnd, I can't help but think Proverbs 31 is the best advice I have received over my lifetime, even though no tips are offered on making jam. 😊

It is a Low German (dialect) name. In Low German and Dutch, they write 'man' instead of 'mann' in High German. So you're ancestors are most likely from the border area.
