I have a shirt and trousers from Cordings. Excellent quality and fit. And owned by Eric Clapton! Waistcoats are very cool. I have quite a few in different fabrics such as wool tweed cotton and linen. And as for vintage watches I have an Omega made in 1974 that has been serviced and is running better than most of my new watches. Cheers Ron

Many thanks for addressing my question, sir. Much appreciated, and a wonderful answer. OOI Marks and Spencer are saying this week sales are up 25%, they've sold a million suits this year, and the average age of their customer has dropped by an entire decade! Very encouraging news.

Peter Christian is a great place to shop. I bought my favorite gray, woolen pants there. I have also tweed pants and scarfs from this great outfitter. The prices are reasonable.

I'm edging towards becoming a customer. I have an eye on .... their blazer. And I'm also excited beyond belief that they are now marketing cords in longer leg-lengths, and cheaper than James Meade.

The family photographs add a nice touch. We all like to talk about the period of our schooldays sometimes; for me too it was the 1980s.

Thank Ash, thanks for answering my question. Peter Christian I had not got on my list! And GURTEEN I did not know. I just checked out their website, in particular their sales range is quite attractive, ranging form 160-250 GBP for a jacket. So thank you very much.

A regular wearer of "just" the waistcoat. Perfect as an extra smarter layer when the temperature drops, if you don't want a sweater. Also raises casual up a notch.

I get a lot of my ties from eBay as I love vintage ones. I find that women especially appreciate a man in a tie and have had many stop me in the streets to tell me so. With a spine injury, I find exercise difficult but I do take my German Shepherd out for a walk every morning and I have some resistance bands to do other exercises. As for the Duke of Windsor, we just take the clothes for what they are regardless of the person they adorned. What a lovely photograph of your wife in her blue fedora and your son looking very dapper. I quite agree with you, Ash. Light brown shoes with a blue suit, a big no from me too. I have only one watch which was given to me on my 18th birthday (40 years ago) a standard quartz Tissot but I love it, I think one can pick them up these days for £100. Great video as usual. Been a bit worried all through the video about your cuffs on that damp table. 🙃

I think ties do have a function. They keep your neck warm when it's cold. That's why people loosen their ties when it's hot.
@stephencooper504016 сағат бұрын
If they're cheap enough you can just use them as a napkin...
@davidwilliams260812 сағат бұрын
It’s not the tie that is keeping you warm, it’s the fact that when you are wearing a tie your shirt collar top button is done up. When you start to get hot( getting hot under the collar) you have to loosen the tie to enable you to unbutton the collar. The tie has nothing to do with keeping you warm
@andrewnewman5208 сағат бұрын
@@davidwilliams2608 I would suggest that ties do keep you warm. You will notice in the video how much the tie covers the chest, this helps insulate the body as well as stopping heat loss via a collar when tied.

As we age, Sarcopenia becomes an issue. From age 55 onwards on average. You cant stop it’, but you can slow the progression with exercise. Most important !

I would recommend mid-brown shoes for the light blue suit. Shoes should be a little darker than the suit fabric but ideally not too much contrast.

Allow me to express my appreciation for how well you articulated yourself on the subject of style and how it was informed by the Duke of Windsor (though I am not knowledgeable on topic myself). The inherent value of maintaining a nuanced, understanding, and balanced perspective on the world is often forgotten today. You describe such a point of view and highlight its merits excellently.
@Olyfrun13 сағат бұрын
It really was a great answer. And yes it is a somewhat fraught topic and ofc a variety of views are possible. But the Chap Himself has it right, I think- we cannot change history, but we can be aware.

concerning ties... I picked up a lot of nice Ralph Lauren, Paul Smith, Tommy Hilfiger and Dolce & Gabanna ties for as little as £20 each from TK Maxx but I typically don't spend much more than £100. The beauty of buying one for £100 is you get to pick exactly the ties you want instead of making do with whatever is in the discount section. I like Ralph Lauren and Rampley and Co for more pricey ties.

Since I bought my vintage mark 1 car last month I have a one thought bouncing around my head sports cars & vintage represent our style the question is what happened if a gentleman wear classic fit and driving lamborghini in green colour or with a classic car?
@ABC-rh7zc13 сағат бұрын
In addition to silk quality and low-quality slave labour considerations, when you go to a local shop in London for a tie, you are not just paying for a tie, you are paying for the opportunity to see the item in person in central London, to touch it and even to try it on. That is an expensive service to the customer and one worth paying a premium for. How much of a premium is a matter for the customer to decide.

When buying ties, first consider the colour and pattern, second consider the length followed by the desired width, and lastly the fabric. A high quality fabric is worthless if you don't like the design and it doesn't fit you.

9:02 where this is concerned. We should be able to "separate art from artist" as it were. People of high status are very often... eccentric? Does that mean there is NOTHING we can learn from them? No. Discernment and wisdom are your friends.

Good morning Ash, thank you for your insight and thoughtful responses. I'm heading to Turnbull & Asser to pick up a shirt later this week and will buy a tie for my Stepfather's Christmas present to go nicely with the shirts I've commissioned for his birthday. Certainly expensive, and he wouldn't spend that on himself, but it's more about the gesture. This brings me to a conversation I had with a colleague recently that wanted to buy her husband something bespoke or MTM for his upcoming 60th birthday. I put her in touch with my tailor but with the caveat that nowadays the pool of manufacturers of the sort of things we like to wear are becoming thin on the ground. No longer is there a choice of many competing tailors that can knock out a bespoke Huddersfield fancy worsted suit in a few weeks at a good price because there's another competing tailor next door. Back in the 80s when I started wearing suits, ties & Goodyear welted shoes it was a very popular way of dressing, for work and also leisure, dining out and so on. The very high end clothing places still exist and I suspect always will on Savile Row & Jermyn Street. Entry level places are still going, Primark sell a 2 pack of mens ties for £6 and remind me of C&A in many ways. It seems to be the middle ground that have left the room. Brook Tavener are indeed a good recommendation that seem to fill that void. You also know how much I like my Cordings overcoats too! Excellent photo of yourself and your good lady, the Harrington jacket is rather Bond. Enjoy your week sir. Kind regards, Rob.
