The worst of 2024 goes to Patek with the Cubitus. Not only a extremely uninspired design, but also eternally connected to that god awefull PR statement.
@sb79207919 сағат бұрын
Really a shame. It’s one of those things (which you see examples of in all industries) where the thing itself is fine - even great - if it existed in a vacuum. It’s a shame as it could’ve been fully, or at least partially avoided.
@andrewkrasero18 сағат бұрын
I would disagree after seeing it in person. Will it go down as a top 5 Patek of all time? Probably not, but given the perverse cyclical nature of watch culture, I’m sure in 2050 there will be some weird run for 2024 Cubituses. I sincerely think the outcry for the watch has more to do with the CEO and his off base remarks.

Check out the Seiko UTD someday. One of the best value 4 money watches on the market in my opinion. Its a ultra-thin dress watch, that usually sells around 1000 USD, but is thinner than its swiss competition that costs 5 times as much!

The design aesthetic of the Japanese can swing from totally constrained conservatism and conformity......to unique and original avant garde beauty. I think that is why your sentiment resonates so true. Some of Seiko and Citizen designs are so original and groundbreaking that they would never come from the minds of European brands.

Ah jeez Dennison making a comeback out of nowhere. I got one by accident a few years ago, when I inherited a dennison cased waltham hunter from 1905. By the standards of the day, it would be considered low to mid tier, but the fit and finish is incredible, and holding up very nicely almost 120 years later. The movement is astonishingly beautiful, and it keeps better time than some automatic seikos I've owned that were a tiny fraction of its age. Really shows the level of dedication and the skill required to be a watch factory line worker back then. Keeper for sure.

Two thoughts on Bulova: First, the Precisionist movement is a marvel and deserves broader use across the brand's lineup. Second, it's disappointing that a company with such a rich history has revived the Seville from its archives-a thoroughly uninspired choice, in my opinion. As for Vertex, setting aside its historical significance and familial connection, I’m not convinced the current collection fully warrants the praise it often receives. Maybe the upcoming review will convince me.

Hey, TGV! The Hawaiian Pizza watch was specifically created to “wind up some Italians”😂!, as it says on their website! I have it and I love it!
@laurencehogg601013 сағат бұрын
If that's true then I'm even more disappointed. What would be the reaction I wonder if they had chosen to 'wind up' a different group or culture?
@matthewgooch68926 сағат бұрын
Hey, lighten up, the whole idea of Studio Underd0g is to shake up the stuffy watch world and inject some fun. I think they pushed the way for all those colourful watches this year and the Rolex abominations that came out with jelly beans or whatever they were. It's meant to be light-heated. And I bet it's no more offensive to Italians than Super Mario brothers is.
@sfstoltenberg6 сағат бұрын
@@laurencehogg6010 Indeed. We seem to live in a time when some people see the goal of winding up, triggering, or owning a specific group of people as the ultimate aspiration. It's exhausting.

TGV, Merry Christmas!! I 've been watching your show now for nearly 8 years, my love of horology started (coincidentally perhaps?!) around the same time I was introduced to your channel by an old colleague. My favourite episodes have always been your audience collection reviews, I love seeing people from different walks of life and different tastes (and budgets!) show off not only their pieces, but their love for those pieces and the stories behind them. I've never felt I had enough of a "collection" to contribute, but after finally acquiring my latest addition (no spoilers!) I now feel I have what I can proudly call an eclectic collection and would love to share!! I still have (and LOVE) my Victorinox INOX auto, black dial. It is (in my opinion) the perfect do all watch for those of us with large wrists and/or in the executive protection field. You can dress it up with leather or keep the bracelet, strap it on a NATO or swap bracelets/rubber. And this video made me go and look and my humble little INOX workhorse has gone up in value/price since I bought it. ...May have to add another Victorinox dress watch to the collection. TY for putting some respect on the Victorinox name my brother. Shalom

You’re so right re the patronising attitude by watchmakers re designing for women. For me the Hermes The Cut watch addresses this issue successfully. Is it a sports watch? Possibly. Can it be dressed up? Absolutely! Is it a woman’s watch? Not really! And herein lies its utter beauty for me. This of course is a very personal take. It feels comfortable on the wrist. I also purchased a rubber strap and it changes the look entirely whilst still accentuating the unique shape . I’m thrilled with it. It’s now my everyday watch.

That Vertex really caught my eye. Not totally sure about the case thickness, but the dial shows a great modern field watch design update. BTW, I recently came across something that reminded me of your EDC collection: The Extrema Ratio TK Tool 2.0, a compact Italian-made high-quality steel multi tool than can be used for screwing, scratching or as a lever or wrench and can be combined with mountaineering or maritime knots for added functionality or just decoration.

Thanks for the review TGV! I like that you highlighted several models that are unlikely to show up on other reviewers' lists. On the other hand, TBH, there are not many on your top list that I yearn to own. The Dennison reminds me of a department store offering, the Nivada and the Vertex firmly avoid breaking new ground, the Victorinox and the Breitling seem toylike (and even a bit Invicta-like), and I haven't yet decided if I love or hate the numerals on the Hanhart (leaning toward hate). Frankly, I prefer the style and originality of the Fortis watch on your naughty list, despite the awful name. To each his own!
