Psychoanalyst Robert Moore explores the lost art of making a container for your soul-working with your family, elders and community to channel your own energies, passions, and demons.
This is an exclusive recording of the 1997 Minnesota Men’s Conference. Register and attend the next Conference by visiting www.minnesotame...
Founded by Robert Bly in 1984, the Minnesota Men’s Conference celebrates the telling of old stories, the gifts of poetry and music, and opening our hearts to grief, wildness, and joy. We all have a yearning for lives of richness and meaning; this five-day conference is a unique opportunity to enrich ourselves in a community of other men.

16:42 “…how do you stay awake and how awake can you be before you get crazy? … how asleep you have to be to function?” That is what I’ve been realizing lately, after listening to Robert Moore talk about dragon energy, the cup etc. - The more I tune into that archetypal energy, the more ungrounded, inflated I become, I lose touch. In the past I would be too late to realize and too embarrassed to go near the dragon energy for a long time. But I would always eventually seek it out again. I see now that my task is to be always in contact, as much as I can without letting it take over

It took me til age 44 to fully admit that my father's violence was a split of personality, that he was eaten by the dragon. All the signs were there in my childhood because he denied that anything happened even while it was happening. Robert Moore was a true gift to understand the powers greater than ourselves and how to address them.

I have a close Buddhist friend (I'm Christian), and we talk on a nearly daily basis. He's 16 years older than I am (he's72). We discuss such things as faith and religion, spiritual practice, soul alchemy, poetry, literature, art, quantum physics, the world's state of affairs, and other such matters. Often, after I've had a good conversation with him, I feel like a hug would be appropriate, but it wasn't until today that I finally asked him for a hug (5 years into our friendship). We had a nice, brief, but very loving and genuine embrace, and it was wonderful.

Robert Johnson Moore is talking about the ego-self cup not the Self Holy Grail cup. If you take the Parzival legend he is referring to the time Parzval is training with his mentor and King Arthur's court. Not the discovery of the Holy Grail, which comes later. In order for Parzival to be eligible for the journey to the Grail he needs a basic ego structure which will be flawed but strong enough to go on the journey. The problem is many people never gain a healthy ego structure in the first place. Notice when he talks about fundamentalism of any kind. Parcival eventuell duals with a muslim knight and after he lost he discovers that he is his half brother. But Parcival needed an ego provided by Christianity, by being an Arthurian knight, by going out and having his own experiences before he could reach that atonement with the shadow. The next atonement is that with Grail King and the Holy Grail is beyond the Grail King.

15:55 how can I map my "I"land? How can I know what it is? What can I do to build that? How do you know when you are at the threshold of craziness. And does he really mean psychotic? Or is that a metaphor?
@z1ssou
@z1ssou 5 жыл бұрын
You're correct on that. Think of the I land as practices you have built in your life to connect with and harness the expanse of these energies. I use meditation, journaling, dream analysis, excercise such as martial arts and yoga, breath work, maintaining a clean diet and lots of water. These also include the quality of relationships you have in your life
@z1ssou
@z1ssou 5 жыл бұрын
He does mean psychotic. Most people numb themselves to a degree that they never come near that point, subconsciously. A lesser degree of that would be when you are feeling burnt out by work or are relying more and more on substances. That could be coffee, alcohol, cigarettes, heroine.. whatever it is.
@rastaisfuture8630
@rastaisfuture8630 4 ай бұрын
Problem is letting the wild crazyness spill out or leak out the cup. ( instead mindfully use and channel this mad psychotic into genious) Its all about containing all of our lower energies in a strong cup. ( and transmuting them into whats needed) The cup is your arcetype, your best self. Take care now. ❤.

From what I understand, a vessel is simply a ritual used to manage archetypal energy. Am I close on that? What are the cracks he is talking about? Useless habits? How can I solidify my understanding of this topic?
@z1ssou
@z1ssou 5 жыл бұрын
Hope you read this. But his book warrior, king, magician, lover is a great introduction to these ideas. It maps out the I land as you say. And as you become familiar with these four directions you can start to notice where you tend to lean and how to begin identifying and balancing out these energies in your life. I've listened to countless hours of this guys lectures and used psychedelics in ceremonial settings to help get in touch with and develop these energies and sensitivities to them

Can someone explain why being eaten by the magician dragon is bad?
@annavictoria4300
@annavictoria4300 3 жыл бұрын
Because it destroys your ability to connect with other people, build enduring bonds and ability to enjoy wider experiences in life(lover), your ability to set and achieve goals which are beyond your self interest (warrior), your ability to order your life, be creative and bless others (king) . Life becomes one-sided, your health will suffer, your relationships, etc. There is always payback time, the dragon will have you pay the price in the end. The only way is to balance these things out. The image of a shadow magician is crazy ol' man isolated in his tower with his books, and nothing else. I major in being eaten by the magician dragon, ha ha

@@annavictoria4300 thank you so much for answering my question. How did you overcome it? ..if you don’t mind me asking..
@annavictoria4300
@annavictoria4300 3 жыл бұрын
@@janedoh1648 I am still busy overcoming. :o) I guess first it was by getting in touh with the lover and finding out the history of pain and damage that made me withdraw in the first place. So it was getting in touch with the things I love - like making art, walking in nature, music and dance, among others. Then it is about establishing some sort of discipline like self care, eating right, some sort of excercise and also getting on top of procrastinating ( this would be the warrior domain). And last but not least, asking how can I take responsibility for where my life is heading? How can I embody the Queen archetype in my life, what sacrifice is required and how can I bless others? It is work in progress. Basically the problem with the magician is that she knows everything but does not do anything and escapes into more learning and research, detatching from the world. So the task is to use the insight to revive all areas of life. The relationships is the hardest for me, cos I am introverted and an expat. Hope it helps.

@@annavictoria4300 that helps a lot. I’m going through a similar experience and I suppose I kind of already knew this, just wasn’t ready to do the work. I too have grown comfortable in my solitude. A few weeks ago I had a conversation with myself in that in-between state of sleep and waking up about applying the medical S.O.A.P. diagnostic tool for assessing my psychological/spiritual problems. I’ve been putting it off, but it’s time I put the work in. Thanks for sharing. ..last question, any good suggestions on books about archetypes that could help me with this? Lol I know that seems like I missed the point but I’m new to this.
