I have narcissistic personality disorder ( NPD ) and I've been in therapy for my personality disorder since 2017 and it has definitely changed my life because without it, I would have lost everything.

The sickest part is, they will punish you for making them feel bad AND for making them feel good. Especially if they feel vulnerable too. My ex used to cling to me at night like a lost child and loved it when I ran my fingers through his hair and cuddled him because he said it made him feel safe. My guess is he never got the affection he needed from his mum as a child. But! He would punish me the morning after by turning his back to me, ignoring me, giving me the silent treatment, barely looking at me all day etc just because I made him feel vulnerable and in his twisted mind, that was just an evil scheme to get under his skin because that's how THEY think.

My ex narcissist basically held me hostage in his house when I tried to break up with him like a mature adult. He would physically prevent me from leaving, threaten my life and his, hide my car keys, hold on to my car door handle when I’m trying to drive away, etc. I made a plan to escape quietly. I left and he began stalking me and took things so far that I had to get a restraining order against him. Just run, don’t negotiate with them. Stop listening to their lies and save yourself from a lifetime of chaos and misery.

Yeah man… she tried to be friends and I tried it but I started catching on to her being a bad person so I told her I don’t think I could do it anymore. Tried to set some boundaries to our friendship and she didn’t like that. Tried to say it was my fault we kept going back and forth so I called her out on the whole timeline of how she acted. I got radio silence which I figured would happen. So I left her alone. A couple months later when I started dating someone else I got a random “hey how are you doing text?” From her. I ignored it for most of the day and she text me later in the evening “nevermind “ so I just gave her a thumbs up and told her how my life was getting better without her and I was gonna block her now 🙏… right after I hit send I blocked her everywhere and it felt great. I was with a guy for 3 years I thought he was my potential husband. He told me he had a baby girl on the way but he had no contact with the mom. Soon as the baby was born and got back in contact with the mother he changed. I had no problem with him being in his daughter life but one day I looked in his phone I seen him texting her asking her can he perform oral sex on her but she never responded. So when I confronted him about it he telling me I didn’t see the message she sent him so I told him I didn’t care what she sent you supposed to be with me why would you ask her that? Fast forward she was buying him clothes he would start arguments with me and go over there but come back they had a fight he was driving her car to work and tried to convince me she wanted him back she’s making trouble to break us up. He got her pregnant again then after their son was born he married her and didn’t tell me I found out by finding the marriage certificate bottom line he made me believe it was me being insecure he was abusive in ever form. But the Baby mama got the worst of it. So I got tired and I officially broke up with him and from that moment I felt free. Be careful of the Narcissist they will take you to HELL. This man is right Ghost them.

I ghosted his sorry covert self in March of this year. I packed and saved money covertly for 3 years. He went camping one weekend and when he got home, I was GONE. I had a very dear friend that I was trying to talk into leaving her husband and she was going to give it six more months. The last time I talked to her, I asked her if she thought her husband would hurt her and she laughed and said he would never hurt her. The next day she was dead. He shot and killed her in her sleep and then killed himself. Oh, how I wish I had pushed a little harder, but I was afraid I'd push too hard. She was the sweetest person in the world and a hypnotherapist and now she is gone.

I called him out on a lie…he threatened the relationship but said he would talk to me later. Texting. I texted a couple times. For clarity. Nothing. He has one of my blankets and my fenty body scrub. I asked if he could bring my stuff with work with him next time he worked. He said “yeah” He works at a gas station 4 blocks away from me…he worked all that weekend. I heard nothing. By Sunday I just started looking little things up, and ran into your videos, and lots of articles online. And I just lost it. Perfect episode for my situation. Keeping boundaries of no contact. They use the term “ghosting” to make you feel guilty for keeping your boundaries. Especially if you explained why your boundaries and what. I made that mistake of explaining why. They just bang on the front door of my house now. 4 or 5 times a day. Thank goodness for my Ring doorbell! If you have a trusted person on your video bell you can share with, share. The more people who know you trust the better. When a toe crosses the boundary line, I’m done , no contact. I’ve had to file a restraining order before- don’t be afraid to do that either! I took her statement “ the police won’t get here fast enough,” last year as a threat and I am never alone with her. If she tries to get me to answer the front door, I don’t. Oh and a few weeks ago , “ I’m going through my stuff before my kids get a dumpster to throw it out after I die. “ Thats when I blocked her for good. This is my MIL. Srr bro but as she’s my mother - and I’ve tried every healthy approach to resolution and begging her to see me or trying to bring something up to hash through and even tried to ghost in the past bc she wouldn’t respect my boundaries and she kept coming at me w all her tactics and flying monkeys- til I answered and I gave her a big chance again and she continuously smashes me into the ground - I am planning on a ghosting when I have all my ducks in a row - and if it hurts her as much as she’s continuously hurt me over my whole life including my stolen childhood - fking great. That’s fabulous. I want nothing to do with her. If that makes me a narcissist to want her to hurt at least a little bit compared to the 30+ years of pain she’s caused me - then so be it. I wouldn’t do it to anyone otherwise and this is me at my limit.

when i moved to another apt in the building, the narc showed up at my door with an entourage and told us all a BS story abt how my pots and pans were gifted to her by her grandparents. Who died 15 & 5 years prior. My pans were in family pics of mine from just two years ago, and were a brand that came out just a couple years ago. I agree with Lee. When I told my ex that I did not want the relationship anymore…He started fighting me, I ran outside of the house and he ran me down and started fighting me again. I had to act like I didn’t want to break up and he and I could work it out. When he left the next morning…. I moved back home and cut off contact with him. He wanted to talk to me again and I was afraid because I knew he could get violent. I listened to my cousin to go talk with him because she “had my back”. In short, I ended up with a broken nose. I learned the hard way.

You helped me so much when you said, "they perceive your depth's of empathy/compassion -- and they weaponize it for their own best use of you (manipulation)". You are thinking, pour understanding, your love and compassion on them will help heal that damaged, traumatized child within them. They are seeing a sucker to use. If both the narcissist and love interest seek self awareness counseling with sincerity, like Lee did with his wife -- then together a life as a couple can be hammered out seems to me. If you have a malignant narcissist who thinks he is the hottest thing since matches were invented.... RUN, get away as fast as you can and do not look back. Then stay away. Thanks Lee for the teaching. I will chuckle all day ove the robootic thing chasing the car, staring ahead not blinking with words coming out but not heartfelt/connecting. LOL. Man, that’s a lot to digest, but it all makes sense. Nothing I went through felt genuine, and I know I owe myself better than that.--honestly, I think ghosting, in most cases, reveals cowardice more than it does any justification. However, there can be a few valid reasons, although they’re rare and should be approached with care. For instance, if someone genuinely fears for their emotional safety due to toxic dynamics or feels overwhelmed by circumstances that keep them from clearly communicating their feelings, then stepping back might be a self-preserving act. There’s also the scenario of someone realizing they’re in a relationship that simply doesn’t align with their core values and beliefs-if they’ve put in the effort but see clear red flags, sometimes, rather than prolonging an unhealthy situation, they choose to vanish. But that should be communicated!

I think ghosting should honestly be a last resort. When you’ve built a connection, it feels absolutely necessary to communicate your feelings. However, I can see scenarios where ghosting might happen-like if someone feels unsafe or if the relationship became toxic to the point where staying could lead to emotional or physical harm. Maybe if someone realizes they’ve outgrown the relationship but just can’t bring themselves to break it off because they fear heavy emotional repercussions. Yet, those should really be rare exceptions, and even then, some respectful boundary-setting is crucial. For me, though, it’s like I see no real rational reason when a conversation could solve so much. My ex ghosted me when things got rough, yet I had invested too much time and heart to just shrug it off like it was nothing! I mean, he could’ve just said, “Hey, I’m feeling overwhelmed,” instead of giving me the silent treatment. It felt like every moment I spent trying to decipher his feelings was wasted when all he had to do was communicate openly. I get people need space sometimes, but when it’s used as a method of manipulation, it becomes a toxic game of emotional hide-and-seek-the only person it ever hurts is the one who’s left in the dark, questioning what happened.

I’ve been dealing with a narc for 31 years. I now know what it is. Why does a narc need years of therapy to understand the damage/chaos they create? Why do narcs feel so little about themselves to push emotional damage onto others? I hope one day I can have compassion/understanding to this mental issue. In my heart is equivalent to hurting children-Rhymes with dedos. Getting a thrill to hurting innocent people just bcuz they feel so little inside, so self center. I will continue to pray for more understanding but I just don’t get it.

When people are so caught up in their own beliefs and emotions, it’s hard to see things from other peoples perspective. Sometimes the person is fully aware of the chaos they cause in your life. They simply don’t want you calling it out because that forces them to admit to being wrong. They no longer have an argument to stand on and are forced to change themselves. They don’t wanna do that because it makes them feel bad about themselves. So they’d rather accuse you of being the problem. Alot of their behavior is also based in fear and paranoia. Fear of not getting what they believe they deserve in life. Fear of being used. Fear of being hurt. Fear of being rejected or abandoned. Fear of their weaknesses and insecurities being exposed. In their mind, they think EVERYONE can potentially hurt them. They’d rather hurt you, use you, or whatever before you EVER even think about doing it to them. The feeling of being hurt, rejected, used etc is too unbearable for them to deal with. It’s uncomfortable for everyone to deal with. But these types of people, they find it EXTREMELY unbearable to deal with. And so they act out the way they do. At least that makes them feel like they have SOME sense of control of what happens to them in life. We’ll never really understand why some people think or react the way they do to the same situations we all experience in life. You just gotta accept that everyone think and react differently in life. You can’t change them. You just keep your distance from them.

Just left my narcissistic boyfriend. Had to protect myself from being used emotionally, sexually, mentally, physically, and in every way and form. I had to deal with him being a man child, not taking care of his hygience, being emotionally unavailable yet ready to get laid, lovebombing in the beginning of the relationship, claiming we had plans for the future but would avoid topic of it once i moved in with him, and would just play games all night after working at a dead end job. When i tried to bring it up and fix the issue with him, he would shut down and claim he wanted to better things with me but it would go back to the same toxic cycle of me being alienated trying to play guessing games wondering what he wanted and how to make things better. Whenever i began distancing myself and decided to make plans to leave, he would come to me and try to keep him with him. On top of that i like how you mentioned they accuse you of being with someone if you leave cause prior to me leaving he accused me of being with someone else. So glad i left.
