I use a variation of the " touch pad " in the forest. Every stone, tree stump, lumps of moss , tree trunks. etc i can find on my walk - i send my dog to put her front legs on.. it is extra good if i find several "pads" in a small spot so i can make her move back and forth .. she loves that.. standing waginng her tail waiting for me to send her.. never knowing wich one.. her favoruite game.. . Mine is not a mallie - but a Dutchie needs the same amount of training so this is awesome. Great video :)

@Garth Williams Oh.. i am so sorry to hear that. If we had that i would not do it either.. We have one type of snakes here - the viper snake but i have never seen one in my 14 years living here. I know they might be here and i am a bit careful for 4-5 months but the rest of the year is fine :) Still to cold for them here but i guess they will be wakiing up in a couple weeks :) - i live on the west coast of Norway. BUT i do live in the most tick populated area in the country and thy woke up allready in february.. pesky little creatures. Ihave picked over 50 ticks on one dog after an hour outside - but i do not use any poison to kill them off.. I just keep plucking and combing them off ..Thank GOD i do not have white dogs anymore - ticks love the light color ..

I do this exact drill with our working gundogs. Maybe not exact but all the principles are the same. The reward system is a bit different. The only difference for me if I have several pads or boards out for the dog and we will cast to them. Some times with the retrieving item in their mouth already. Other times casing away from the toy in a different direction to introduce casting away from things the dog wants. Also our dogs sit to the single whistle so if I send the dog away to a pad or boards in the early stages and they don't sit because the board is so reinforcing I have an opportunity to use Negative punishment vs positive punishment. The alternative is sending them for a toy asking them to stop and if they don't the get a correcting on the collar/ long line or they get away with ignoring a command. I love this drill.

wonderful video! I see lots of training and reps to achieve this high level finish! Quick question, I know your always into the crate after training, this way the dog can settle down and the first and last thing in their mind is the training session. If my dog is calm with a flat collars in the floor could that substitute it once in a while? my dog is crate trained and have been doing it like you instructed, just curious?

What do you recommend to do with a stressed out Malinois fresh out the crate. Dog acts like he ran a marathon as soon as I leash him up

I’d take 15-20 min to get him out of the crate and move through every step as slowly as possible. Also I’d stop petting/ praising and all verbals for awhile. Sounds like extreme separation anxiety.

You have some good ideas but 5 minutes would not make my 46 kg rottweiler tired . If you have a dog that is tired after 5 minutes this dog would be very unfit
@stevemartin55812 жыл бұрын
I call bullshit on this statement ! a rottweiler does not work at this level of intensity . But feel free to prove me wrong and make the same video showing the same amount of reps and send it in to Andy to post here . Were and when is your dog next competing ? , would love to come along and watch .
@BatMan-fv8rw2 жыл бұрын
@@stevemartin5581 I didn't say a rottweiler works at the same intensity. If any dog is tired after 5 minutes of exercise ,quick reps,a few sprints the dog is very unfit or very old. Sorry if i upset you.

@@AndyKrueger Your missing the point. ANY DOG THAT IS TIRED AFTER 5 MINUTES WORK IS UNFIT . A farmer would shoot a sheep dog if it was tired after 5 minutes. If a tennis player was tired after 5 minutes training he or she would be unfit
