My 7 month GSD will tug to get to his bed so he can chew it. Tips for getting him having more fun playing with me? If I let him win the tug he trots off and lays down or just lay down. Same with fetch, he will chase the ball and instantly lay down.
@goymedhundDogtrainingBehavior2 жыл бұрын
1. have his back checked if he does this a lot.. not normal behavior and can be muscles/ Back problems L7.. 2. negative experiences with you creates avoidance behavior.. 3. Same problem - avoidance - because from to much pressure or/and high energy from our part.. That will make them go and lay down to avoid working with you... So try to relax and be calm during the training .. I want the dog to play around me and have fun and feel safe.. You can do this - have 2 balls on a rope.. . hold one and stretch your arm out - having it dangeling.. and have the dog grab it and let go.. Then back off or even turn your back and pick out ball no. 2... do the same.. That is one way to start.. Later on you can try to let the dog come between your legs - from the back to avoid pressure.. switch always with 2 balls.. Adress the avoidance before you adress the "loss/let go" behavior.

@cynthiaaustin17632 жыл бұрын
I put my puppy on top of a crate like the one at the end of this video and trained "yes" and luring. It did take a bit of patience just to be able to safely hand feed but she got used to expecting to work on luring on that small space and then we took luring everywhere. Had a dutchie some years ago that I used string cheese that I would slowly advance in my hand so he could access it a small amount at a time, working on distinguishing between hand and cheese. Wish you lots of success.
@AndyKrueger2 жыл бұрын
It takes time and practice for both you and the dog for sure! Try using one single piece at a time so the dog can focus instead of just blindly grabbing whatever he can! Take your time and best of luck!

Andy any tips on building a decent relationship with a cat and a puppy? I have one cat who does not care at all about dogs and the other is extremely friendly with dogs, I’ve even clicker trained her to sit, place and come when called. We don’t have a puppy yet but will be getting one within the next year. Ideally as an adult the dog will ignore both cats but accept the attention from the friendly one. I know to introduce slowly and have puppy’s main focus be on me and training, crate training etc. not having them together all the time but any extra tips? Anything in particular that would benefit cat owners or is there anything specific I am missing?
@caitegraceify2 жыл бұрын
And just because I feel like possibly cats have a bad reputation (who knows why lol), the friendly cat is so well behaved she was asked to be a blood donor because she purrs when she has blood drawn. She’s on the emergency list if they need blood for another cat’s surgery they’ll call me to drive her to the animal hospital an hour away. I swear I’m not bragging. Only just a little. Really just to prove the point that she is really an excellent cat.

When I first got her I was clueless, so I played tug all wrong and she's no so keen on playing it now, but I really want to 'turn it back on'. I've been using high value rewards, and taught her the command "tug" and she does.. how would you go about this? Do you think it's possible to get her excited about it without the treats? Hi from the UK, Andy. Another mega video, your channel is awesome! I’ve just started tug training with a client’s GSD. You’re going to think this is a stupid question, but I’ve seen in several of your tug training videos where you stroke the dog under his chin and stroke the sides of his face while he’s biting the tug. Is that some kind of positive reinforcement thing or is there some other specific reason you do this? I really appreciate your time here. Keep on keepin’ on buddy 👊🏻

How would you assess a puppy’a bite at 8 weeks when choosing a pup from the litter for obedience & personal protection? Not necessarily IGP or French ring sports. Thanks awesome stuff!
@AndyKrueger2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Of course I’d want to see a dog that likes to bite confidently right off the bat. BUT, at 8 weeks old there’s only so much you can look for. It can be somewhat like trying to asses toddlers to see who will be best for professional sports! Haha!
