Six-figure business owner approaching 40 here living in the American Northwest. Cybersecurity isn't anywhere near as important as electronics repair and modification. Right to repair is going to blow up and very soon because of two reasons. First the fact that nearly all of the chips that southeast Asia ships over to us have back doors and exploitation of these back doors will be a major Black Swan event for lots of people sleepwalking with their electronic devices bolted onto their hips heads and eyes. Secondly, the part shortages are only going to be more pronounced as that is one of the biggest weapons in the CCP arsenal against the American people and against the same stock market that the people who are selling us out are insider trading with. The time of the tech monopolies and black box software is coming to an end. People are going to need, absolutely need open source electronics and the ability to repair the closed source electronics that they already have. for decentraleyes, (like you said in your Firefox add-ons video) i prefer localcdn, this is because it updates more regularly (like you said) and it doesn't automatically support networks without your permission. i havnt had an in depth looks at diffs from each of their source code but it could just be that localcdn hasnt said anything about this, plus localcdn is a fork of decentraleyes so it would be impressive if they got rid of that.

The resolution change has me scratching my head a bit. For one it still allows them to fingerprint your browser. It may not be the correct size, but it's still a consistent data point. It's also the more unusual data points that are the most useful for fingerprinting purposes, just like the spoofed user agent. It only works for the tor browser because everybody on tor is using the same browser. I would think making your browser look as common as possible would make it harder to fingerprint. Make the inner window size the same as if it were a vanilla instance of firefox running fullscreen on a vanilla instance of windows 10 on a 1080p screen. And use the default windows 10 user agent. Also I'm not sure if the changing the sendRefererHeader setting prevents the referrer from being read through javascript. There are plugins that can block both and can do that only for cross site requests which only blocks the referer if a site is loading an asset from a different domain and when you follow a link to a different site, which is less likely to break something.

To get around the problem of configuration, it uses separate tools which interface with the services. Plus the services can be run separately from each other, while still obviously integrating well and sharing a design philosophy. And if a program doesn't support systemd services, all you need is a text file. If I wanted something else I'd switch. But time and time again I use systemd. "these professionals could still do the majority of their workflow on Linux, and only move to Windows for very specific things" - given that (which is still arguable), why would they? Why would you fragment your workflow into two separate OS with two different pieces of software for each scope? You technically could, but it would be a straight downgrade compared to just doing everything in an environment capable of supporting 100% of your workflow. "But the average user only uses a web browser, they wouldn't even notice they're on Linux" - true, as long as you're only using your web browser, you don't care about the underlyings. As long as you're using this very strict subset of what a PC can do, you'll notice no difference. Linux works just fine and gives you zero problems as long as you don't actually use your PC for most of the things it's meant to be used for. "I'd say you actually waste more time on windows because the setup is slow" - also true, you recover that time when you plug in your peripherals and they work, though. "Mint is like a Civic: it always runs and it never breaks down" - except when it does, which is very often compared to Windows in my experience. Your mileage may vary, though. I used Mint for the better part of my CS degree, and use Ubuntu in my job (both considered very stable distros) and I face issues that require my time to fix on a weekly basis. I also got my BIOS corrupted and rendered read-only by Ubuntu 17.10, but that's another story. "Linux is more secure" - yeah, true "The value of your time is self-determined" - also true Linux based systems will require more maintenance time than Windows/MacOS, no sense in denying this. But you may love doing it, like a classic cars lover or the like: that is valuable, and if you deem that time is well spent because you enjoy what you're doing, that should be respected. Also tech lead is kind of a douchebag. I still appreciate your effort to get over your bias (it might be evident that I'm biased in the opposite direction). I watch your content to try and see through mine. So, even if I think your points in this specific videos are weak, thanks for the time you take to make this content for everyone to enjoy

I'd be interested in hearing your opinion on Palemoon and Basilisk. Only if you've used the for any significant time. This was a pretty interesting video though. One feature I'd like to see adopted by most or all web browsers, is the ability to force the browser to use no more than a certain amount of RAM and processing resources. Like the browser Opera GX is supposed to do.
@World_Theory3 жыл бұрын
I know a streamer who uses Opera GX as a part of their streaming set-up, because it doesn't take up too much real-estate. They stream VR games, and that's already very demanding on their laptop due to VR being so new and unpolished. There's a lot of software that needs to run for VR. They also use VR tracking for facerig type virtual avatars, when playing desktop games on stream.
@World_Theory3 жыл бұрын
There are actually a great many streamers doing this kind of thing. I'm sure they'd love the ability to limit their web browser's resource usage. Along with other programs. Most PC VR users use Windows at the moment, by the way. Most cheaper VR headsets on the market require software from the manufacturer, that only runs on Windows. The ones that are compatible with Linux are both over 1000 USD.

On the 5th of October, just recently, there was a new AR/VR headset kick starter launched, called the Lynx R1. It met its funding goal in less than a day. It looks really promising, and it's from a very legit looking company in France. The reason it caught my interest, is that it's advertised as a very open headset. The developers said they will allow users root access to the Android OS.
@World_Theory3 жыл бұрын
It might be made compatible with Linux, but they seemed a little unsure about that. This was just before the kick starter launched though. I'll have to see how they feel about Linux compatibility after they have a lot more pre-orders. There's a details I've skipped here. You can look it up yourself if you're interested. But I think the price of less that 500 USD is pretty good for what it is, as it's not even being subsidized by a big company who plans to make the sales cost back through advertising data and game sales.

The issue with the whole "support competition" thing is that chromium usually just straight up performs better than gecko does. Brave in particular is probably the fastest browser right now as far as I'm aware, while also taking up the least amount of resources (between the popular ones, at least). Supporting competition doesn't mean just going with another option, but going with the best option and encouraging the others to meet that standard. I was using Waterfox up until Brave started becoming more appealing to me, switched and got better performance and efficiency, and am still happy with that choice. Until something rolls around that can do what Brave does better, I won't be switching, because doing so just for the sake of giving a weaker browser a higher market share is pointless.
@comradepeter873 жыл бұрын
Gecko's stronghold is performing better the more cores you provide. On a quad-core it's better than my CPUs, but on an octa-core the experience is much much smoother than Chrome.
@MrTonyBarzini2 жыл бұрын
Ok use Chromium until the competition gets snuffed out and the google monopoly becomes solidified. Thank you for your service
@asdasddas1003 жыл бұрын
Idk if the competition thing applies as much because V8 has to do things outside of the browser sphere IE nodejs. I feel like if other engines died tomorrow V8 development/improvements would be full throttle because so much depends on it

I'm a normie, I just want a browser that has the same features as Opera GX. A really good PiP mode with progress and volume scroll bars, and the ability to manage how much RAM and CPU uses. The gamer aesthetic stuff doesn't matter, but I use those two feautures constantly and none of the other open source browsers I've tried have anything close to it.
