With all the hype about the new Mephiston model incoming, I thought it time to delve into the past of The Lord of Death himself!
The events we are discussing today come from the Novel Sin of Damnation, by Gav Thorpe. As always I really recommend you read the novel for yourself first. Not only do you get the most enjoyment this way, but we help to support the great Games Workshop and Black Library. Because without them, we don't have this amazing lore to discuss!

It was Oculus Imperator that gives a great description of why the Blood Angels are the way they are. The Legion from Terra was recruited from the worst genetic mutants Terra had to offer. They were vicious killers with no compassion within them. Sanguineous gave his angels Art, Culture, and Music to calm the beast's within them. He proved that Music truly does tame the savage beast.

I agree, but I think Guilliman is trying to use a measured approach. Thousands of years of institutionalized idiocy have set the Imperium back. The truth is to save everything you have to change the Imperial Cult, note I did not say get rid of it.

@@Writh811 Guilliman is the diplomat. But I'm not sure a diplomat will change the Ecclisiarchy or the Mechanicus. Cults rarely change and usually have to be destroyed if they are a threat or ignored if they are not. Best case scenario here is that Guilliman can talk down one or the other but not both. Talking wouldn't matter to any of the other Primarchs. Sanguinius and Vulcan wouldn't outright destroy them, as they too are humans, but the rest of the loyalists probably would just destroy them.

Loved Tycho, was gutted when he fell to the rage.. But it was always going to end that way for him.. Blood Angel's have the most tragic lore I feel, but it gives them something no other chapter has.. That savage nobility, they really do follow the steps of their primarch.

If Sanguinius and Vulkan came back, I think that the first thing they'd do is... cry. Cry over what the Imperium has become. Cry for what Humanity has become. And I also think that, unlike Papa Smurf, they'd be instrumental in returning the Imperium to what it once was.

Each of them have their own influence on how the imperium will be restored.. To say that the avenging son won't have any is undermining what he did during his time in the great crusade.. Roboute is more a statesman, a builder of governments and a leader than an outright conqueror.. Coz if i remember correctly he left worlds more prosperous than they were before he conquered them, established governments and provided advanced infrastructure and technologies to sustain the government he put in..

No, there’s actually very little written about the Emperor and Sanguinius together! I really hope that changes.

Probably the most you get about Sanguinius and the Emperor you will find in Horus Heresy game Book 8 Malevolence: "Having foreseen the Emperor's coming in prescient dreams, Sanguinius bent his knee to his father without qualm or delay, and was to learn the ways of war at the side of Horus himself, accompanying the Primarch and his Luna Wolves, to see how war was waged among the stars and to understand the functions of the vast Imperium that the Emperor was building." etc.

@Goat Librarians with the telepathy discipline can sense treachery so that's quite possible. Though I'm not sure Calistarius had telepathy then or if it was something he gained after his rebirth. My guess is yes though.

@Goat The latter is possible or he was the first and turned on his brothers so they locked him up like the chapters do with the Death Company. However if he was in the grips of the Rage he wouldn't have locked himself up as they do lose control and just kill everything in their path. The former raises the question of where are his brothers that locked him up and why they didn't just send him into enemy lines. I have a feeling the answer isn't going to be what we might expect. Spacehulks as a general rule are lesson in insanity.

@Goat Oh and so far as I know only Mephiston has come back from the Rage, and he managed it twice. Though the novel Devastation of Baal we see Dante succumbing to the Rage but it's unclear as whether he died and Sanguinius revived him or if he just lost consciousness and woke clear of the Rage somehow. But typically Angels don't come back from the Rage. In fairness most them died in the battle they succumbed in.

I am surprised that the sergeant was so quick to leave. I would think that he would've called an Apothecary and Techmarine as well to recover the geneseed and the Terminator armor. Especially the armor sense they are so rare, even if it is damaged.

This is a hypothetical,(a bit of Ultramarine), that the black rage actually kept the injured Blood Angel alive for a length of time before finally passing into hibernation. Then in the time preceeding the angel passing into comatose state the terminator armor was either done with basic repair to life support. For I ponder if the Blood Angel was going through the states of rage first red then black to keep alert to stay the amount of injury he sustained in the fight against the Tyrannids. Commasiar Ciaphas Cain had first hand experience of what the 'nids could do on terminator plate whilst he, a company of Imperial soliders, and the spacemarines the Reclaimors delt within another space hulk.

No that would be the White Scars. Mephiston took the name after falling to Black Rage the first time and somehow survived and purged himself of the Rage, hence his name: Mephiston, Lord of Death.
