Sanguinius week rolls on! And today we take a look, at Sanguinius going one on one, with the Greater Demon of Khorne, Ka'bandha!
The events we are discussing today are from the Horus Heresy novel "fear to tread" by James Swallow. As always I really recommend you read the novel for yourself first. We actually know that Ka'Bandha is actually REQUIRED BY KHORNE'S LAW to reveal the name of the being that defeated him before he's allowed back into Khorne's palace. We find out in one of the Realmgate Wars AoS books that Khorne demons that are destroyed are required to crawl back to Khorne's palace on hands and knees and enter through a 'penitent's gate' where they need to give the guard the name of the being that slew them or they won't be let back in.

Unless it changed with Age of Sigmar, the Chaos gods from Fantasy are not the same from 40k. Their is very minor differences. Khorne from fantasy is slightly more about martial prowess than pure bloodlust/rage of 40k. By that i mean he like's the fancy moves, such as Skulltaker able to decapitate with ease. But yeah, minor differences due to GW desire to separate the two.

@@legionaireb Right. So please explain to me how the Fantasy version of Slaanesh just up and disappeared? Also, all the way back in 2003, the Fantasy world existed in the eye of terror, which it no longer does, once again, to try and separate the two franchises. Personally, disliked it myself, i like the idea of the two being connected. But hey, GW does a lot of things that piss people off. Might have changed with Age of Sigmar again, but i avoid that mess, plus i believe the Skaven God has become a Chaos God (or equivalent) so once again, how can that be, if the warp is the same as the 40k? Skaven/Horned Rat would love the underhives of the imperium, doubt it would be quiet.

The Chaos Gods exist in one form or another and one state of consciousness or another in each of these universes. These facts have been confirmed by no less an authority than Grombrindle himself. The idea that The Warhammer World existed in the Eye of Terror is a misinterpretation by the fanbase of a statement made by Kaldor Draigo regarding a world he saw while traveling in the Eye of Terror. Remember that the Eye is half way between the material reality of 40K and the Realm of Chaos. Things can be seen that exist an any of an infinite number of dimensions. As for Slaanesh 'disappearing,' he/she/it just went into a food coma after gorging on the Elves during the End Times and was later captured by the deified lords of the Aelves. The Dark Prince is sitting not too comfortably (and not too securely) in Ul-Gysh right now waiting for its latest Offspring to finish freeing it.

I’m dyslexic too. I’ve always struggled enjoying reading. I love books but I’m very slow and misread a lot. I vastly prefer Audiobooks. You can get a lot of 40k books on Audible. Usual sale too. I really recommend them. Unfortunately I feel “Fear to Tread”s reader doesn’t really capture Sanguinius’s voice well for me. It really makes him sound like a fancy dandy boy rather than a charismatic warrior.

Sanguinius has said that he refused Warmaster as a title to seek. He has such a difficult time seeing his own sons due, how could he spend his brother's sons in such a matter. Sanguinius truly is the Light of the Imperium, with him and the Emperor gone from Mankind's eyes it truly is a dark time for Mankind.

That is what makes Magnus such a great character. He is honourable enough to accept what ever punishment the Emperor deems to give him for his actions, and honourable enough to fight to protect those who do not deserve to be punished for something they did not do.

Since you mentioned the Siege of Terra, here's what I'd really hope to see: 1. A last moment of reflection between the primarchs on Terra, with the emperor too. Some parting words before their likely deaths 2. Sanguinius goes HAM at the Eternity Gates. No handicaps, just pure rage and badassery. His defiance of Angron, smacking Ka'bandha again and just massacring the Traitor hordes 3. What regular human troops felt seeing the demon hordes before them and their thoughts on being around the Astartes and Primarchs throughout the siege 4. Reactions to the deaths of Sanguinius and the Emperor. Khan, Vulkan and Dorn would've been there to see it almost firsthand. And the latecomers? How did they react and cope?

Then there's the Horus Heresy novel series, it depicts the Heresy in detail and through multitudes of perspectives.

The fights highlighted how powerful Sanguinius is. He beat down 2 greater Demons and then goes in and beats a 3rd in Samus. I think we will get a Demon Angron vs Sanguinius with the hints in the Solar War. However i also hope we get a exchange between the Emperor and Sanguinius before the teleportation showing that the Emperor realized Sanguinius knew his fate and went anyway to protect his father. Great stuff and this is why Sanguinius is regarded as the most powerful Primarch in combat. And he is not even using his full warp power like how Corax now knows how to do. Epic

It is really fun to think how a 30k marine would stack up against a 40k one. We hear these great stories of these long dead hero’s “one exception in Bjorn” and how mighty they are but they were at the height of imperium power with no restrictions. If we look at 40k we see they are fighting with one hand cut off and the other tied behind their back and they still raise hell. Characters like Dante, Logan, or Calgar are great leaders and fighters who constantly have to punch above their weight limit and win so thinking about how they might change things if the warp sent them back in time fighting along side their Primarch is like the ultimate power fantasy with Calgar excluded for obvious reasons but still.

I've said this a few times on various videos talking about Dante and BobbyG and the possibility of them talking about Sanguinius, but I really do mean it and want it more than anything else in the franchise. Now we know why Leman wasn't thrilled to even go one on one with Sanguinius. With feats such as this one while even before chaos was really the mainstream in the 41st millennium's lives. You know you avoided the bullet of getting humiliated or being humbled by Sanguinius. If you're Angron however, well let's just say as long as you can stand up from your brother's attacks I guess that's good to boast or just say I was planning that all along.

@@codyw_ Guilliman was fighting two Primarchs. Would have beat Logar if it wasn't for Angron. Guilliman was also able to get a couple good shots in Angron and hurt him. It was not all a one-sided fight. I do believe Angron would have won though (he did win) but In my opinion, it showed that pre-Demon Angron was not the unbeatable Primarch. The angel and Russ would have beat him., even Vulcan.

@@keithgainey7853 nothing against the Russ, but in that story where he and the wolf's were send to bring the world eaters under Angron to heel. He was bested by Angron. And yes I know Angron was lured in to be taught a lesson. But he won the one on one fight while he lost the greater battle. I believe each primarch has different counterparts whom he can win against. Angron can beat the wolf but not horus. But the wolf can beat horus. And so on. Well no one can beat the angle in a fair one-o-one but that's another story.

@@AloneD.Walker I mean given how Leman purposely threw the duel to teach Angron a lesson, it’s actually far more likely that if Leman had been trying to kill Angron as opposed to show him why his tactics suck he would have been able to. Angron got beaten the exact same way by Perturabo. Perty boxed him in with bolter fire and unlike Leman, only fought Angron after he’d been isolated and weakened. Without the added power of demon ascension, all Angron has is his ferocity. A true duel to the death a pre demon Angron is getting absolutely dunked on

I liked the Wraight version of Sanguinius in the Jaghatai book, but I think Swallow got the best measure of Sanguinius in Fear to Tread in a way that we really haven't seen since in the HH series. Fear to Tread is far and away my favorite overall BL book. I love the Katsuhiro sections of Lost and Damned, but that's a relatively small part of the book. Fear to Tread is good all the way through in my mind. It slowly builds up and it was gripping to me even though I knew the general sequence of events. He also gave us possibly the greatest one liner in the HH series: "If you truly do hail from the realm men once called hell, when you return tell your kindred it was Sanguinius who threw you back."

My favorite part of that book was how much of pre-heresy planning involved Sanguinius. I mean, he almost became both the chosen Primarch of Khorne, as well as a potential Chosen one of the Four instead of Horus, should he fall to Chaos. That fascinates me. Horus was even afraid that Sanguinius would surpass him!

I think Snaguinius is supposed to break Ka'bhanda's back over his knee during the siege. Sanguinius vs Angron would be interesting since everyone says that Sanguinius and Horus are the only ones who could outright defeat Angron in a one vs one fight. I wouldn't mind seeing Vulkan fight Angron though...

This has to be one of my favourite novels in the Heresy series for the scenes you read here (well one more, but I hope you'll get to that eventually). I started out as a Wolf Player but Sanguinius is certainly a close second to the Wolf Lord (with the Kahn third) and it was this book that cemented my love of the Emperors winged son. You can almost hear Fulgrim chewing his own liver out in envy of the Blood Angel and his greatness. Fun fact; if you look in the back inside cover of old Black Library books there's a picture form the late 90's of some people playing 40K. It was taken in Bolton's Games Workshop. I know this because if you look at the back of the shot I'm half hidden behind a member of staff! (sorry, just had to show off!)

I completely agree that Vulcan probably feels the death of his sons the way sanguineous does. But I also think or Corax does as well. I think that's why the landing site massacre affected him so deeply.
