Cristina bringing mer’s kids into this made it personal so when they were fighting they were doing it as best friends not as surgeons. I get where Cristina is coming from I think in her own she was trying to tell mer that she should put her self first but she did it in a really crappy way that mer thought she was calling her a bad doctor. Derek always put his career first, and Meredith knew it. If you watched season 11, you'll know that he was supposed to step back and let Meredith focus on her career more, but he went to Washington, and relationships in general take up a lot of time, so after he died, she only focused on her career and her children. We'll never forget Meredith's decision to give up her dream of being a neurosurgeon because Derek couldn't work with her. It's also just my opinion.

@@hypewarrior4488 derek did step down for her and was glad to do it, he even turned down the job opportunity at first not even looking at how much money he was gonna make cause he wanted her to have that year but after the fucking president called him personally he changed his mind and rightfully so. what’s funny is that if the situation was reversed and derek didn’t want to leave seattle so meredith could work for the president because he liked it there he would still be the one being called selfish. not to mention that every single character on that show puts their career first the only difference is that derek is the only one that gets shit because of it. meredith ruined his trial, compromised his career and her own he has every right to not trust her at work btw she was never really passionate about neuro she was always going general she just had a hard time accepting it cause she didn’t want to live in her mother’s shadow.

Christina was right to replace mer during the earlier transplant but the arguement after that christina debate it as a surgeon not as a friend or mer’s person. Mer is already struggling and she needs a friend shes new to this and with her past she is trying so damn hard to be an amazing mom and surgeon. I absolutely love Cristina, and sometimes find Meredith to be relatively annoying, and so it hurts me to admit that I do actually agree with those who say Cristina was wrong here. I can understand that Meredith got nasty real quick, but (and not to be political) the implication that Meredith will not be as successful as her, or at least compared to other because she’s had children is pretty representative of the expectations that are pinned against women to either choose to be successful or settle for motherhood and motherhood alone, because there’s no way women can achieve both equally? Idk, I know it’s not that deep but that always bothers me about this scene. Although let’s not get it twisted, Meredith definitely is jealous and it shows lol

Dani D that’s not what’s being said though. Cristina never said Mere cannot do both successfully. She is saying that she just won’t be the most successful surgeon to ever live when she has a family to take care when she gets off work vs. Cristina who is always working and spends all her time doing only this. It’s a very real reality for women who have children that they do more housework and child rearing. Meredith does eventually figure it out how to balance both on her own, but at that stage in her life with very young kids, it was impossible for her to compete with Cristina who didn’t have any of those other responsibilities.

girrll in the world of real medicine there is only a very few women who has made it to the top in surgery...be it general be it cardio thoracic...if at all women surgeons are mostly in Ob gyn... reason; i know it sounds hard to hear but motherhood family wife..... its very tough to make it to the top because you have to invest atleast 80 to 85 hours a week.. and if u had a child well that child is gonna be left out ...so christina is right... this is medicine not fashion , business ... brutal truth

Cristina was absolutely in the right. She was saving lives and Mer was preoccupied with her family. Cristina was the better surgeon and doctor. Meredith just became petty because she felt she had something to prove. Then she had the audacity to blame Derek for her failures, nothings ever her fault. Especially when Cristina tried to be nice about it. When Cristina showed Meredith the patient she was trying to save, Meredith just made it about her trying to insinuate that Cristina only showed her that because she has a baby. Christina did an experimental surgery to save a baby. Meredith was doing an experimental research to save lives. Both important. Christina got lucky. Meredith didn’t. Simple as that. Now Christina telling Met that she can’t be better than her cause having a family is a distraction and is holding someone back is both inaccurate and untrue cause Meredith did become better than her and she has children. I never understood or agreed with this story angle much. I love Cristina as a character, but the idea that she was somehow a better surgeon than Meredith is weird and wrong to me. If it was Izzie for example I'd understand, but there's nothing in the show that really suggests Cristina is better than Meredith. Yes, Meredith has kids, and Cristina's a bit of a prodigal talent through the show, but Meredith's mother is Ellis, and Cristina basically spends like 2-3 seasons chasing off cardio attendings after Burke leaves her. She spends long periods of time barely doing surgery through seasons 4 to 6 or 7 and we're supposed to believe in season 9 or 10 that she's a better talent than Meredith. I just never bought into it.

Hello 😊, from what I see the entire time she was on, we see Cristina as the best, from the very beginning, even your own comment, about Cristina being a prodigy, that alone tells you Cristina was better, and Meredith being the daughter of Ellis means nothing regarding her own talents. Among many scenes that tells you Cristina was better jts the one when the attendings have to choose one resident (after the merge) to perform a solo surgery, Cristina won, and they said that for the first time ever ir was unanimous. Or when the best hospitals were sending gifts to Cristina to join them, Meredith wasn’t shown to be that wanted. Meredith was talented, but like we both said before, Cristina was a prodigy and she had the focus and discipline that Meredith lacked.

She is the one who was better prepared as an intern regarding surgical knowledge (ending of episode 1). The show goes on and on but Christina was only good on cardio. Mer was good at all of it. She excelled in neuro, general surgery etc. oh and also she received a Harper Avery award which is the biggest award a doctor can receive and only the most gifted, talented and hard working doctors who make ground breaking progresss in the field get it. So yeah you can be a Christina fan but she never got a harper avery

She made her choice which is fine, but it’s difficult too have it all in a job like that. @@geraldbmolina Cristina lost hers because the Harper Avery foundation thought it would be favouritism if they gave the award to a doctor from one of their hospitals (Grey Sloan is a Harper Avery hospital) Meredith was still a Harper Avery doctor when she won hers, meaning that the same rules that applied to Cristina should have applied to her. BUT SHE WON IT ANYWAYS, so her work was probably way better than Cristina's work. In short, the only way Meredith could win is either because the show is inconsistent or because she's just better than Cristina.
