Great car, I had my 87 2.3 16v for 25years in the U.K. and still regret selling it .Now living in Canada and keep hoping to see another one.

Awesome, I used to do the same trick in my older Mercs, I’ve had 2x190 and 2x124 and 2x 126, all we awesome cars. 190 2.6 was probably my favourite, Now have a 203 180 kompresssor which though decent is not a patch on the retro stuff, Your 129 looks fab too, Great video btw, Regards from Suffolk UK

Hey, good vid, lovely car, I just figured out about the gear trick around a month ago, my '91 300E24 Sportline was sluggish in "Sport/Summer" mode, up to 5 seconds to shift with the accelerator down, and I don't use the kick down cause its too much jerk for keeping the gearbox in good condition, (12,000 genuine miles, 4000 of them mine), I done the ECU reset for the gear behaviour, it helped but not really as it settles into the generally used soft foot, It's the 5 speed automatic in mine, theres a plastic "rail/guard" that when you move the gear from D to 4 it acts a lot more responsive, rarely I use it but it satisfied my mind that the gearbox/vacuums were right, What clicked in my head was my friends '08 BMW you move the gearstick to the left for a sportier transmission mode, I notice that when I have the gear moved left it runs through the gears normally with a soft foot but shifts much earlier when you would want it to move, Wish I knew it earlier, I thought the EHA and fuel chamber pressures etc were wrong, thankfully I didn't open that can too wide, Currently pondering a very high mileage 2.5/16v, (in and around 250K miles), it's for auction but the MOT checker shows its been clocked or swapped odo at some point as its showing around 160K now, dog left manual, a fondness for them also, I started driving in a manual 190e 2Litre diesel, the term power shift was accurate but oh so inaccurate in a diesel,,, but fun, double clutching necessary up any hill in 2nd, bouncing in the chair to help get it up, Enjoy!!

im not sure if you are aware, this exact car was t-boned in Glendale, CA - I have a video of the collision. So sad. it sold at copart auction for a remarkable $27,500 with a salvage title. I know this because I tracked down the last owner and bid on the car, but that was way higher than I was willing to go.

I have an '89 2.5 auto in the UK. I didn't fancy stirring that manual box and MB autos are good. An auto car will leave a manual at traffic lights- just give the accelerator a sharp stab to engage first gear and away it goes. If you have one, best to keep it in standard trim- no fancy rims and tyres. What colour is this car??

Dave freakin gorgeous... The paint job is immaculate.... was it repainted... absolutely beautiful.. It reminds me of my first benz, a 300E.. similar looks inside and out... is the back spoiler an original...? anyway fantastic video.. thank you... love your passion !!
@davearcher21883 жыл бұрын
The car is totally original - no paintwork, and the spoiler and body kit was standard spec on the 2.5-16V. The car needed a bit of TLC for the seals and other rubber bits that tend to rot, but mechanically totally sound. Glad you liked the video!!

When master the dog leg 2 to 3 gave you the gain against other cars in 3rd gear you could do nearly a 100mph in 2.3

If you had to keep one, would you keep this or an R129?
@mrnice300013 жыл бұрын
No need for the 'gear trick'. The changes in gear ratio can be adjusted using the Bowden cable which connects the transmission to the throttle linkage. Thee method of adjustment is shown on a KZbin video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/d3Spgayfhat6oMk

Really nice, car, but you cannot beat the dog leg gear box, 2nd to 3rd, and how well it sucks to the ground over 100MPH

Infamous? Sorry but if you haven't actually driven the manual dogleg don't say it's not brilliant. Auto with this car is a waste of time imho. You've also been misinformed sir....both the 2.3 and the 2.5 heads were designed and produced by Cosworth. My 2.3 16v and my 2.5 16v both have the Coscast imprints on the heads. My spare 2.5-16 head has it too.
