The double audio is messing with my head. Trying to figure out how to do the boots on my 84 300sd

And a 82 300cd at the same time, like Dr. Hfuhruhurr.

The audio sucks I’m sorry about that. Those two cars have similar axles, identical joints but different dimensions. They use the same boots. I’m sure you’ve figured that out by now.

they built them way better than they do now

what kind of pressure do you have on your compressor? I'm trying to do this with an off-brand amazon clone of the claw tool, but cannot seem to get the boot to stretch far enough with 125 PSI, and don't know if that's because of the low-quality tool or insufficient air pressure.
@nickpogoler3 жыл бұрын
125 is more than enough I believe they’ll run on 90. You have to make sure the big nut on the back is screwed all the way in, that’s the limiter. If that checks out you have to take it apart and get the piston out. I found on mine that the tolerance in the o ring groove was way too loose, and it was leaking air. I took some duct tape and wrapped an ⅛” strip around the piston in the groove (remove the o ring first) a few times to take up some space and make the o ring a little tighter. Then it worked great. Use plenty of grease on reassembly. Silicone grease is best.

Will this work with factory boots? like stretch them?
@nickpogoler4 жыл бұрын
No, the factory boots cannot be stretched. The boots and the tool are made by the same company and are proprietary.

You can buy rebuilt rebooted stub axels for $60 bucks exchange now most auto parts store have them ...
@nickpogoler6 жыл бұрын
mediaomar I’m running a set of cheap axles currently on my wagon. They have 50k miles on them, no issues. So I agree that the axles are decent, but the Chinese boots cracked within a few thousand miles. Maybe they’re not all bad but in my experience your best bet is to reboot and regrease good factory axles, or put good quality boots on the Chinese axles before installation. Or buy new factory axles for $600 a piece. Maybe other brands have better boots, but I got crap boots so that’s what I did. The axles in this video are from a different car, and I believe they are factory, and still solid, so that’s why I went to the trouble. Cheers.

Nicholas Pogoler in the USA there are rebuilds and new axels have run both for over a year no cracks or split in boots the rebuilt ones use a good quality boot just like flex boot quality... The new axel on the other hand have a not so thick boot ? No cracks yet time will tell I had to reboot my 116 style no rebuilds. You do not have to use the flexx gun you can use a wide funnel or a funnel like tool to get the boot over the bearing can I used grease an 90 w gear oil in the 116 axels been running for 150,000 miles no problems

Plus the rebuilds have a life time warranty
