I used this tool and did my axles, had same problem getting boot off tool but it worked. Bought a Snap-on tool shortly afterwards and night and day difference. Stretched on effortlessly. The boots I bought were a blue color can't remember brand name but started with an A. Clicked on your link in video and says "made in Taiwan" for the boots so don't know if they changed them or what but NOT made in USA on amazon. Excellent video.

Wow that's impressive! Awesome job, I've done a axle boot replacement once on a VW Polo IV but I had to disassemble the cv joint in order to put back the boot, it was a lot of work... Great job Vito!

I wanted to rebuild mine but ended up buying a replacement axle with the non can style boots. One side of mine already had that style, should make boot replacements possible next go around since I don’t have the boot spreader gun. Cool tool to have though.

Nice car and nice job Vito, I’m sure your dad is happy now.😅 Quick question, where did you buy your nice air tool to stretch the boots and slide them in, that’s a very neat tool. Thanks again for the nice video man. Cheers

Hi and thanks for your support! You can get this tool on eBay or Amazon. Just type in “cv axle boot gun”. Keep saving amazing old school machines!

Hi again Vito! One quick question, are both boots the same? I mean the one on the diff side and the one on the wheel side. Thanks again man!

Hi Luis. Yes, both boots are the same🙂

Do you know why Mercedes chose to fill the boots with oil rather than grease?, i assume there must have been some kind of advantage.

Vito , I need to replace all 4 boots on my 1983 300SD , the lip area on the inside is 3.85 " and the outer is 3.44" . I don't see a link for the type of boots you used . Can you give me the name and where to order a set of 4 . And will these slip over a 4 " mounting cone ? Or should I spend the extra money and buy a cone expander tool like you have . I found reasonable cost half shaft axles for my 81 240 D , but I have not found replacement aftermarket axles for the 1st generation 1983 300SD at all . Luckily all 4 boots were not split and did still have the original oil , they steal seem to be in fine usable shape . Providing I can obtain and mount the boots .
@rcsnow222 жыл бұрын
I did just find your link ,,, Will these boots , or the size you used fit the 300SD ,, 3.85 " inner and 3.44 " outer . I do know my cans will likely be slightly larger than the axles you mounted . Sure appreciate any help and advise . Take Care ...

Hi Richard. I bought these axle boots on eBay. They’re called universal flexible cv axle boots. I’ve installed them on W126 chassis before and they worked just fine. Here’s the link: www.ebay.com/itm/303949343274?epid=230359896&_trkparms=ispr%3D1&hash=item46c4caea2a:g:wFkAAOSwlnxdzcjl&amdata=enc%3AAQAGAAAA4PKgHeHLN0LJyTFy1VihmLxEGNiYn16KNJOK3rvJob6s8SgpYZb988%2FKXCOyinVYRpgOcfiIMQJ6hy83DHa42XrmaIpBJpOaAjc3ZMgJfVZuNArW96TGpWtH1BsQbFVTvEmhNKWSsUsR%2FeAyxiy1TFldl0I%2FovVNniOnpFt0JnBxqNzfpVnn7Ao%2F16Xtsx%2FntRonvvaT48tZegbBYqHxl7dviKoUPr44Vt1bcQebWLkka8c6VAiX8K8HSiHwoJLT%2FDg9ApbD1KkLl9VBX4gQ2iele96HQUAziAL2bQfypbsv%7Ctkp%3ABFBMqp7Y4_1f Contact the seller and double check whether these will fit or not. Tell them your year, make and model. Either FB3001 Boots will fit or FB3000K. One of them is bigger than the other. Just double check with the seller. These kits come with a cone for manual installation of the boots. You can try using the cone first. If that doesn’t work for you, you’ll have to buy a bootgun like the one I used in the video.

Ezt a munkát elegánsan egy munkaasztalon, egy nagy tálcán kell végezni, nem egy szemetes kanna felett, és így tönkre teszi a gumit, mielőtt a helyére kerülne.

professionals, with any car, don*t you have to give maintenance to the CV joints, and it is surprising to see you Fathers car still have the original CV joint boots on, more impressive, the original grease that it left the factory, I thought you had to give maintenance, just like if you were to change the oils, liquids, according to the mileage.
@VITOSGARAGE4 жыл бұрын
I did give it maintenance! Did you see how much grease I gave it? Any other mechanics shops would have never done that 😂
@EnriqueLopez-hb5jn4 жыл бұрын
@@VITOSGARAGE That is what I mean, you did a tremendous job, but just thinking, that you are the first one to service those original OEM Mercedes Parts that the car left the factory with is quite impressive, the parts around 35 years, then you have the grease which was about the same time, now if you checked with t hgt e maintenance that you have to give the car at certain mileage, normally it would have been replaced, I just wonder how many more cars still have the original part they left the factory , if your fathers car still had the original parts, usually they would specify at certain mileage, in order to keep the car going.
@bikeman1233 жыл бұрын
@@EnriqueLopez-hb5jn I'm pretty sure mercedes did not specify replacing the drive shaft oil and it will only be done when the boot fails. It's not a good design because the owner may not realise the boot has failed and continue driving without oil and damage the cv joint.
@johnwalters878 Жыл бұрын
Yeah, terrible design, they only lasted 40 years lol. Replace the boots and run it another 40 years, except the boots are probably not as good.
