Huge job, nicely done. My 1971 350 SL with manual gearbox is luckily not in that bad shape, but still waiting for major restauration.

Guys, absolutely the best movie showing serious and professional restoration not only 107 but any other MB too. I have never saw such good tutorial and show not only on YT but in the net. Photos connected with movies with tune up speed was a great idea. I saw it already twice and I downloaded to my PC. I love a professional work whatever and whenever is made. Great respect. People who are speaking with professional restoration workshops even do not know what does it mean "restoration of old or youngtimer. This movie is showing all in details. Of course you did not present a cream - so working with every single component and part - where the engine end gearbox is a kink and queen of success. I will sent a link to our forum related to MB SEC so W 126. Presented 107 is from III generation - so from period when 380 and 560 engines were already used - so 1980 - 89. Almost it is the same period like SEC - only W126 has much stronger body concerning corrosion. 107 has this famous problems with water and corrosion of bulkhead between engine bat and passenger cabin. I am more then sure that you were replacing this element and later on floor panels too. Looking at the stage of presented car - it was stored many years outside - not in garage - it is a reason why corrosion was so advanced. I have 450 SL from 1972 - so from I generation - it is an US version but without any American conversions - MB was sending them to US on the begging only with additional orange lights under front bumper and with "teeth" on the front and rear bumpers. Anyway version with 450 in 1972 was only produced for US market. And I have 450 SLC from 1975 - so II generation from Germany. I will make two simultaneous restorations for ca. 2 years. Now I am working with another cabriolet from 1971. I am amateur restorer. I have already restored three cars myself plus one Old British Pilot Cutter THPV Bembridge from 1938. She was imported by me and my company to Poland from Gillingham in 2009 and her project was fully completed in 2015. Something a bit bigger like 107. magemar.com.pl/bembridge/bembridge.html Restoring of cars is my hobby - not a business issue. Before any restoration I used to collect many materials and books. Your movie is great and is excellent tutorial for anybody who wants to do it himself or order it to professional workshop Cheers from Szczecin, North-Western Poland, Rafal.

My 500SL had similar body work issues, all replaced with new metal inc bulkhead. For those wondering a resto like this would be around £30k. Good job on this one. I would have gone the whole way with the facelift 86-89 look and kept the other wheels.

And I thought I was the only only with a car in this state, my 1979 car had almost identical rust, it took me about 3000 hours over many years to do a rolling restoration. Had I seen this kind of video before I would never have started, however learning new skills along the way has been great. See here kzbin.info/www/bejne/joPZl32orqp2oNU

Hello - can you tell me: 1. Do you have the facility to 'dip' cars onsite and if not can you tell me who you used? 2. Did you do all the metal fabrication and welding yourselves? 3. Do you prep and paint cars your selves? It is quite a hard to find any shop prepared to take on that level of restoration - it is an eyewateringly expensive and time consuming job to undertake. Mike
@midbedsvehiclerestoration30454 жыл бұрын
Hi Mike, the shell was sent away for dipping but we did all the metal fabrication onsite as well as paint the cars. It was a big project but if you check out our Facebook page you'll see that major restoration is fairly regular work for us on many different marques.

.....................Kudos to you for maintaining this vehicle I have two cars benz w 115 and 123 Both vehicles do not run very badly The w 115 car was the official car used by the world’s first prime minister My dream is to get those 2 cars running It is not easy The politicians of sri lanka have stolen the national economy and the whole country is in debt to the world The country is now being run by IMF and world aid Everything is taxed Just breathing is not taxed I have seen benz cars abandoned in some countries which are in the best condition Both my cars have about 60% damage to the bumper Recovery is difficult If you have the body of the w 115 or 123 cars in you possession, I would be grateful if you could provide me with the body of those cars. Also, if there is any possibility to help me in making these two cars, I would be grateful Sorry if there was a mistake…… I am also a person who loves benz cars…………………

Fantastic work! I love seeing the craftsmanship. If you don’t mind, what was it about this particular car that prompted the owner to restore a not-so-rare example, when a much better starting point could.have purchased, saving significant money overall?
@midbedsvehiclerestoration30454 жыл бұрын
The Owner had wanted an SL for some time & bought this one knowing it needed work, he just hadn't realised how much work. Once the car was stripped to a shell & dipped we discussed the possibility of abandoning the project but the Owner decided to push on with it as he would have a pristine example once finished & he has the pictures to prove what has been done.

Mid Beds Vehicle Restoration, Judging from the results, he picked the right shop to do it!, and completed and delivered in a reasonable time frame. As I am sure you know, many times that is not the case, shops take on restoration work they are not specialized to do and get in over their heads.

@midbedsvehiclerestoration30455 жыл бұрын
It took about two years all in all but we weren't on it continually for that time. It was a very comprehensive restoration in all respects & this all takes time.
@sumporfuk5 жыл бұрын
Mid Beds Vehicle Restoration Yeah, tell me about it. I know all to well how long even the simplest of things can end up taking so very much longer than the few minutes that you thought it would take and not to mention the unexpected can of worms that always appear even when all systems are a go. Builders understand these things better than most.

Looks to have been a bit of a basket case... Surely it didn't make economic sense to put so many hours and materials into this?? If it was a Pagoda or a Gullwing that would be worth over £100k I could see it could be worthwhile, but an R107.... Seriously??

I’m interested in getting someone to restore a ‘86 sl 560, that in a similarly bad condition. Would you be able to estimate what costs should I expect? Asuming the engine runs once the electrical part, which had a meltdown at some point. It’s also a hard too. An estimated cost based on what the one you presented would me very much appreciated!

“If you have to ask then you can’t afford it” Is not really applicable when it comes to car restoration. The numbers are generally derived by how far you want to go and then what crops up and or shows it’s ugly head in between time further influences the bottom line. Disclosing the cost is sort of ireverlent but the more meaningful attribute is that the restoration investment far exceeds the intrinsic value.

A restoration of this level can easily exceed 6 figures in the States. Well beyond the value of this particular car, which likely had some sort of sentimental value to the owner. Very high quality work by this very capable team. Kudos to them! The customer has a beautiful car they can enjoy for many years to come.
