Must say - I am quite surprised by the result. Previous Panamera easily won every lap time comparing to other comparable German executive rockets of that generation. But now Mercedes not only equals but beats Porsche in it s own game - that is just the proof how much Mercedes has stepped up its game in terms of performance -WOW!

The Mercedes seemed faster but more unwieldy. Your driving showed some difficulty handling the Mercedes power which is understandable. It reminds me of the same difficulty the driver of (fast lane car) had with the BMW X6 M. It was a real beast and he couldn't crank it to it's full potential, because of the enormous power, as well. LOVE the show (there is a but)! Every episode is amazingly plotted, just the right amount of information and detail given. All car reviews and comparisons are well picked and on point. There is one issue that I do not like about the show and it that the person driving the cars (@stevesutcliffe). Fastest production cars are being tested by an old man who is wearing woodcutter shirts, he doesn't look like a racing driver at all. I have a hard time believing he is pushing the limits of the cars and he is professional enough (maybe because of the way he dresses up). Any way in my opinion @autoexpress should hire a proper race car driver that looks like a race car driver. This will make @autoexpress the best car show out there! Hope you hear me out. Thanks!

not really... The S-class is bigger than the panamera in the long wheel base and the short one you should not buy anyways. The best comparison would be the upcoming CLS 63 (or whatever it is called) wich is based on the e63, or the upcoming AMG saloon wich looks like a four door AMG GT. But for now this the best comparison with the existing models in my opinion.

I don't agree with you on that one. Panamera is 5.05/5.2m and the s-class is 5.15/5.27m long (cls btw is 4.94m). And further on, if you ever took a seat in a panamera, cls and s-class you see that you are more in the s-class than cls territory. additionally pricing and wheight of panamera/s-class are closer together than panamera/cls. AND if you want to compare power-to-weight ratio you should have chosen the regular e63 and not the s-model

I think you can just have the turbo in short wheel base with 5.05m. The e63 is 4.99m. so they are pretty close. With the long panamera you are in s-class theretory on this one i agree. I sit in the old panamera and there was not really difference to an e-class. But i dont know if the new one is much bigger in the second row. I would say the panamera(short) fits pretty well between e-class/cls and the s-class. Mercedes has not the perfect competitor until the amg gt four seater comes... Yeah if you go with power to weight you should use the normal e63 but if you go with pricing then you can easily take the s-model. auto express can not choose the car, they have to take what mercedes give them. And when they say to mercedes we want to make a race against the new panamera turbo, they will give them the fastest model aviable.

I'm a Mercedes-Benz/AMG fan by default, and the E63s therefore gets my vote due to brand loyalty, but the Panamera deserves every ounce of respect too. The Porsche has a cabin sound I've never heard before and I quite like it. The styling is off-putting to me, however, and it loses a point for that. As for the E63s, it simply delivers all of the performance and styling I expect from the company - _The Best, or Nothing._ Both cars get a thumbs up. As for the lap times, they're quite juicy but irrelevant at the end of the day. If I had any reasonable track skill I could possibly do better in the Porsche, or the Benz. It would all have to come down to simple driving dynamics at that point.
