These guys work at a nice leisurely pace. That helps the quality control. That pace wouldn’t do here in the US.

Curious that I didnt see a single screw feeder near the workers. Also move the screws and covers closer to the last lady.

Agreed. I could do the last operation faster with a T-wrench. Weird to see such low productivity at a factory.

That last operation could use a little time and motion optimization. Obviously the work is precise and quite "tight" all through the manufacturing process shown.

Insane! How can they compete with Tesla's automated systems? No wonder BMWs are so expensive! A mind-numbing work environment.

Step 1: Unpack battery cells from asia. Step 2: put it slowly in a metalcase. Step 3: tell the people evs are crap so they buy a "clean" diesel. Works great in Germany.

Why are they doing this all by hand?! This way (slow) they will never be able to compete with others. Edit: And the stuff done by the robots is also sooo slow...

Every car manufacturer calculates the production volume. There is always some jobs that are cheaper not to automate with the respective volume. Some can't be automated. For example a large part of the end assembly is always done by hand.

Safety. The process could run faster, for sure, but if ("when") something is off by a few mm and a battery is shorted or crushed, even one "dead" cell has tremendous power in it. (also MB has plenty of money to burn)

Robots are working at a good tempo. Consider they don't smoke, don't eat, don't check their Facebook during working hours, etc.
