I am a Mercedes-Benz lover, and the reason is my first car. It was a 1956 190. My dad found it in a farmer's field with all four rocker panels rusted through. The good news was that it came with an essentially brand new red leather interior, front and rear It took my dad and me nearly two years to repair the rocker panels because Dad taught me to "lead" rather than to use any fibreglass on the car at all. After doing all of the body repair work on it, it literally took a weekend to get the car running! That astounded the entire neighbourhood. They had seen all of the restoration work and anticipated that the engine would require some similar effort. So, we fooled them with that! After getting the car running we decided to paint the car white, which looked very nice with the new red leather interior. Once it was all painted, I drove to the local Mercedes dealership and spent $40.00 on a new 3 pointed star Hood ornament, which Dad thought was ridiculous. Clearly, I disagreed. I decided the car needed the hood ornament to be finished. Right about the time the car was finished, my parents decided to get divorced. Then mom wanted to move to California, and like an idiot, I thought I owed it to her to help her out by moving with her to help her. Hindsight showed that to be an entirely stupid move on my part. The worst part was that I had to sell my Mercedes. As I said, though, I am a Mercedes guy. I bought my wife a 2009 Mercedes CLK 550 Cabriolet. It was black with a cream leather interior. After she'd had that for about a year, I asked her if I could buy my dream car. My dream car is the Mercedes-Benz CL 55 AMG. The reason it's my dream car is that the CL 55 AMG was the Formula 1 safety car for the years 2000 and 2001. The year 2003 AMG began supercharging the 5.4 litre engine in the CL 55 AMG, YES! , That took the horsepower number up to 493, which is rather amazing. It would have been even better had the car been lighter. Proving yet again that you can not have everything! Regardless, it's still a lovely car. The lines are just superb, and with all of the other technology in the 2003 model year, the car is rather astounding. I just love this car! It's truly wonderful. The car is fast and can do very nearly 200 mph. I'm not even joking about that. On track, I've had the car up to 175 mph. Let me just say I got to drive my first Ferrari when I was 16. It was a Ferrari Dino that I did a front flip from the second floor balcony of the community center of our apartment complex into the jacuzzi to be able to drive the Dino. I know, I know. It was a terribly dangerous stunt to perform to drive an ify Ferrari. For a kid who had a dream to be a stuntman, it seemed a rather reasonable stunt to go for, especially since I pulled it off! I got to drive the Ferrari Dino from Santa Clara, California, to San Francisco and back. No, I didn't break any speed records driving the car as the owner was sitting next to me. Not to mention, when you're a 16-year-old kid in a red Ferrari, it's likely you'll be nailed for a ticket the instant you exceed 55 mph, so what would be the point? Also, I truly liked the guy who owned the car. He was under no obligation to let me drive the car at all. He was a pretty kind gent. The car was nice to drive, but from my memory I prefer driving my CL 55 AMG than that Ferrari Dino. So, there's that. There are a few car stories. I have so many more to tell, but that's enough for now. Be safe, be well, and be happy.

Thank you for this wonderful video. My Grandpa bought a black one in 1956 with grey upholstery. It had been his 2nd car after ww2. He drove it til he got alzheimer end 60ies. From this it stood in garage. As I was a child I sometimes was allowed to play in it. Sweet memories.

Sehr schöner Ponton in gutem Zustand....auch bei uns standen die Pontons in den 1950iger Jahren am Anfang unserer Mercedes Markentreue.

As a young man I bought a 180 model in mid 1970's for €50 and loved it. I wish i kept it and must compliment you on the condition of your 190.

It is a treasusre. It looks like new. I suspect someone has spent considerable time and money in a thorough restoration of a favorite car. I hope it is driven and enjoyed for a long time to come.

Mein Vater hatte das gleiche Modell in dunkelblau, auch mit großem Faltdach. Leider war dieser Fahrzeugtyp sehr rostanfällig. MB hatte bei der Potonbauweise mit seinen Hohlräumen keine Erfahrung mit Rostvorsorge. Mein Vater hat ihn dann bei MB in Zahlung gegeben und gegen einen 220S (Heckflosse) getauscht. Schön, dass dieses Exemplar überlebt hat und so aufwendig und liebevoll restauriert wurde. Ein echtes Schmuckstück.

Ich meine, diese Fahrzeuge wurden nicht ausschließlich mit dem Schlüssel gezündet sondern zusätzlich wurde ein Knopf gezogen. Auch erinnere ich an eine rote Zündlampe, das kann aber auch das Nachfolgemodel gewesen sein. Gab es diese Reihe eigentlich nur mit Lenkradschaltung?

Ja, man betätigt den Anlasser mit einem gesonderten Startknopf. Und die Ponton-Baureihen hatten ausschließlich Lenkradschaltung.

Water. Car shampoo. High pressure jet. Paint polish, different cuts, depending on condition. Engine: brake cleaner. And much more for detailing and finishing…

Back in the late 60s, when I was buying my first car (so I thought), I had a shot at something like this for $300. Back then it was just another old car. I thought about it, decided to get it, went back and it was gone, snapped up by a buyer who had the ready cash. I hope it went to a caring owner. M-Bs deserve it.
