I'm getting ready to tackle replacement of the water pump and it states in book to remove distributor but from looks of it distributor doesn't need to remove. It also states to jack engine over to get to bolt at bottom of water pump. So with jacking engine over it shouldn't mess up the timing and belt has been removed from previous person?

The cruising speed of my Mercedes 450 SL, worked well. suddenly I stop working. What do you need to do to get it to work correctly again?

Hi. Your videos are great i just sent through them. Im curious what was your final outcome? I didnt see any video of the car running. I have a ‘73 450 SL i am troubleshooting at the moment. I am using trial and error and seem to think it is a fuel problem. Any input would be great. Thanks!

I found a 1973 450 SLC that was a rust=free car that did not run. Bought the car and got it to start by replacing the fuel pump and hoses, removing and cleaning the fuel tank and renewing the fuel strainer. The EFI computer was recently replaced by the former owner and the trigger points were doing their job of activating the injectors. There was no spark so I replaced the ignition points with an optical sensor which works fine. The the engine started easily at high idle but as engine temperature increases the idle stumbles and the engine stalls. I believe a temperature switches/sensors are the problem. There are also vacuum components that might be the culprit. Good luck with your 450!

How do you check a cold start ? Will this stop the car from running ? It runs if I use starting fluid.

Johnny Thumper maybe warm up regulator.. Check fuel pressure first, make sure you get fuel

Mr . David Jacov I have 1981 Mercedes 380 sl .I rebuilt the fuel distrbutor. Now it’s too much pressure on the Air flow meter plate . I heve has on the distributor and on the injectors .I try the 3 millimeter Allen screw left and right nothing happens.I do not heve no play are all at the meter plate to much pressure on the meter plate. PLEASE HELP.. CRANK.. CRANK ..no Start.I watch all you videos all the time .Thank you very much.I wait to hear from you...

I'm loosing my mind. My 450sl.1977 Mercedes will only start when I use starting fluid. I have replaced every component on the fuel line. Please suggest something,, Please.

Johnny Thumper don’t just replace parts, you need to replace the right parts! You need to go through diagnosis procedures, remove the injectors and Check if you are getting fuel when key turned to position 2, it should mist for 1 second, if you don’t get fuel, you need to check why, start from the pump, if pump is pumping fuel at the right pressure than it might be your fuel distributor if pump not pumping check why.

Hi . 1976 450sl i refurbish fuel distributer in Germany with this ( german spob gmbh ) , now the car start good on idle but when pres accelerator the engine shutdown ( less fuel ) because the main lever don't go down to push plunger , if you push the main lever by your finger on the same time the engine continue working . any help pls .best regards,

Check your fuel system control pressure, it could be too high. Possible cause could be a faulty warm-up regulator. Check to make sure also that there is no restriction on the fuel return line going back to the fuel tank. Cheers!!!
