The 7G-TRONIC PLUS operates even more smoothly, quickly and economically than the first generation of the 7G-TRONIC. Its efficiency has been optimised by measures such as an engine connection offering a further reduction in converter slip and markedly diminished gear friction losses.

Sounds like an ordinary automatic transmission to me - which IS the most complex thing in a motor vehicle - that they simply made lots of small improvements to, part by part. I didn't hear about anything really innovative here except maybe the second oil pump to help prevent wear when the transmission is used with an engine having an automatic start-stop feature.

I recently purchased a 2012 ml63. It has 83k miles, looks nice, very ! Did ALL maintenance that it needed, vehicle has NOT been beat. Very quick unique shifting from transmission. Every time I drive it I love it more and more. Tight quick shifting, up or down. Very unique and race vehicle like. I really enjoy this incredible vehicle and it’s technology!

Igor K Okay here's the short version, the transmission pretty much falls flat on it's face (the clutch doesn't engage) when you downshift at low speeds. What I'm wondering is if you need to rev match it like in a normal manual transmission.
@jeffk464
@jeffk464 8 жыл бұрын
+Jimmy Situ Its a slightly better standard automatic transmission. If you wan't super quick, manually controllable shifts, with even better efficiency you want a DSG. Of course luxury car buyers will probably still prefer a torque converter because all that slippage translates into smoothness.

Have this gearbox in my current C350. It does feel slightly clunky when cold (but nowhere near that of my Mitsubishi 6spd auto), but nearly imperceptible when temperature stabilizes. It also feels more direct than the outgoing 7G-Tronic I used to have on my C250, so the 7G-Tronic+ has definitely improved on the directness of the engine. Start-stop is nice too.

I have 133K miles on my C350 sport and I drive the hell out of it. Frequently I speed up to 210 km/hr or 130 MPH, spin out at stop signs, drift stop lights, and it runs like a top. The only complain is there is a little play in the lower gears but likely thats from my abusive driving habits. All the complaints out there likely are from driving it like a 60s cadillac, instead of a spirited sports car.

Looking at the Modern Mercedes and then finding out about the Technical achievement's. The brilliant people who are encouraged to stretch the limits of the possible is one of the wonders of the 20-21 century. These magnificent cars when matched beside the Electrical models are in so many ways superior. Enjoy them. The era of mechanical engineering is disappearing. Is the future Better? Carrying around a 750KG battery full or empty that after 5 years has maybe 60% capacity. A Mercedes E Class made in 1990 is still a car that is a wonderful drive everyday.

I would get it changed out. It's not cheap to have done at an MB dealership, but that may be best. I'd let the service advisor know about your concerns and they should be able to provide guidence. MB transmissions are not cheap when they go out so any preventitive service is probably a good idea at this point.

Therefore, the quality of the transmission Control Unit is not good and it will fail sooner or later.

Actually the MPG of the S-Class S500 V8 with the 9G-tronic is slightly lower than of the S350 V6 with the 7G-tronic. The V8 has more power at low RPM and can shift more efficiently with the 9G-tronic, as the V6 needs more RPM for power.

hi all... First of all, yes, Mercs reliability isn't what it used to be; but what manufactures' is anymore. 2nd) Each brand has a specific mindset of customer's in their approach; Merc isn't for hardcore use, despite the AMG models. if you are in for that get (if you find anymore) a Honda S2000; simple mechanical engineering, no electrical bullshits, a guaranteed smile on your face as well as most probably a short life term ;), 3) 0,5 liter/per 100 kms saving or 17gr/kms less CO2; that is indeed for the press releases BUT also for the environmental norms in effect, not for saving us money, 4) When they are used normally and they get a transmission fluid, filter and the rubber gaskets changed every 40.000 kms / about 27.000 miles or every 2 years if you are not doing that milage in that time, what it might fails anymore is the damn electronic units of it. So, in general they are still reliable. 5) Compare the prices of modern Mercs and any other brand to the same range's model of that brand, today and 15 years ago; they are practically the same although the value of the money has dropped over the years, plus the cars' performance on every lever has gone forward to a whole new century. Think on that, keep calm and keep driving.
@mitjafreddie
@mitjafreddie 8 жыл бұрын
+Kostas Kourgiantakis For god sake, get with the times! Cars have been using electronics for 30 years at least. The time of simple mechanics, carburetors and manual adjustments is over. It's your subjective feeling that cars are less reliable these days but this just isn't so. Statistics should that they're getting more and more reliable every single decade - despite higher complexity. That's something we non-contributing idiots should praise the engineers for, not dis them.

pracuje w jednym z wiekszych serwisow aut w sarasota florida 34233 w usa i mamy tu takich na peczki . wszystkie mercedesy z NAG2 transmission maja problemy okolo 40-50tys mil. 95% pierwszych wlascicieli pozbywa sie tych aut przed uplywem gwarancji. takze problem spoczywa wsrod drugich wlascicieli czyli tych ktorych widze na codzien w pracy. podobnie bmw electric water pumps (czyj to wogole pomysl z tymi elektrycznymi pompami wody, ktore siadaja i zazwyczaj konczy sie to wymiana silnika gdyz aluminiowy blok wrecz sie skreca i nie idzie czesto uporac sie z dopasowaniem glowicy i gwintami ) i po co przede wszystkich takie rzeczy robic.itd itd. tak samo mercedes cdi v6 czy nowsze benzyna v6 i v8 i ich rozpadajace sie rozrzady .vw/audi/porsche walki rozrzadu z krzywkami wprasowywanymi na cieplo ktore sie obkrecaja i tloki wala po zaworach. niemce budowali reputacje przez wiele lat a teraz oszukuja i sprzedaja "szmelc" za grube pieniadze.

No matter what, I always prefer the 722.6. Much stronger and more reliable although we just rebuilt one. The front pump went and took out the transmission filling it with metal shavings. The cost for a compete rebuild will scare most. You don't even want to talk about what it costs to replace or rebuild a 722.9. You can almost buy a small compact car for what it will cost.

Nope. That problem was within a 2 year lapse of the old W210. Your information is about 12 years old. Get updated.

Torque converter. Well, you don't need that in a electric vehicle do you?

All are produced in Stutgart. OK. State of the Art production facilities - meaningless. Highly motivated team reworked the transmission and got impressive results.... tells us nothing. They got an improvement in efficiency - as a result of INNOVATIONs. Oh. I see. The torque converter works better. More of engine output is available - same as saying its more efficient. They are repeating themselves. Low visosity transmission oil - only specific thing they say. Efficient - for a third tme Oil pump stays on when transmission stops turning - ok that's specific too. They repeat its efficient again. A few specifics, lots and lots of of fluff.

So? Do you think the 1.5 million people that watch this would understand if they explained in engineering language how they did? Ofcourse not, this is advanced enough......

The language could have been made more meaningful without resorting to engineering language. Plain English would have done the trick. But they didn't use plain English, they used meaningless marketing puffery - stuff that has a nice ring to, that Morgan Freeman might enjoy pronouncing, it but tells us nothing. See amoralis123 at around 2016 July. It is also hard to listen to because the background "music" tends to drown out the voice.

+Tadas Negative. It's electronically controlled and goes into limp mode if something is wrong with it. That means catastrophic failure is very rare. If you change the fluid, filters, and seals at least once every ten years then it should last a long time. This is applicable with most any car with an auto-tragic nowadays.

Than you know little about it and Mercedes in general. "It's a Mercedes ffs" remained in the 90's. Now if it lasts for the warranty period, than you're lucky...

you're right, and the more complicate system, the more probablity of failure. Don't forget that gearbox has a dual mass flywheell, the failujre is granted, otherwise, the internal multidiscs clutches have a limited life, maybe 250.000km?, the automatic gearboxes need a rebuilding some time in its life, (if you want long life) and DSG are crap compared to this.
