I managed to source the correct repair kit for this, containing cords, rivets and the other bits, but then found that a number of the plastic lugs attached to the roof, where the crimped ends of the cables are held, are broken and can see no way of repairing these. According to my mechanic, I need to replace the whole roof, a hugely expensive undertaking, just because such a simple part has failed. I'm based in Thailand, which is rather lacking in convertible specialists, so can't just take it to an expert to advise on it. Has anyone else had this problem? Cheers.

Actually, this is not a W238. To be correct you have an A238. 'W' refers to sedans, 'C' for coupes and 'A' for cabriolets. Now, you know.

I have a 205 Class Cab 2019. Would frayed cords cause my roof to rattle and squeak against the rear deck when it is up? It folds down no problem
