Why did you go to carb?
@bicylindrico
@bicylindrico 4 жыл бұрын
My personal reasons were 1. Simplicity, I can build an engine that will run just as good as if I installed a complicated fuel injection system. Literally just as good. 2. Throttle response. Fuel injection can only strive to be as good as a well tuned, accelerator pumped carb in this regard. It's as good as it gets. 3. It's unique. I like cars that are personalized with the owners hand crafted upgrades instead of just online purchased parts. I like nostalgia too. No, Benz never ran a 4 barrel double pumper carb but I bet this engine, like all the others, will run awesome with one so why not let her live a little.

@@jasmenter You would still have to modify that back corner. The manifold sticks out from the head pretty far. The steering rack actually required nothing more than a used W210 steering rack, large steel plate and a modified X164 steering coupler shaft. Nothing for the steering mounts required welding to the chassis. Also I will be running the standard W210 E430 p/s pressure line. It was one of the easier modifications I had to do

That is until I drove a Crossfire with a 55 engine installed and the 6 speed manual from the SLK. I just don't like the way that transmission feels and the clutch was terrible. I am glad I got to drive one before starting the build as I would have been disappointed. The owner enjoyed it though. Also I don't think those manuals are very beefy. Also the car I drove, I was actually hired to replaced the slave cylinder on so I did get to see how the swap was done. The flywheel was a thick solid unit that replaced the dual mass one Benz used.
