Back on the road for 2022 with a Weiand X-CELerator 351 Cleveland intake and a set of big Catcams camshafts. COMP Cams valve springs and retainers on a stock untouched bottom end. She sounds real throaty for a 5.0 liter M113. Subwoofer always recommended.

This engine runs up around 7k making power consistently. I am working on incorporating an ignition cut-shift which it needs to eliminate wear and tear. I will get out driving with video this coming Spring

After looking at these cars for 32 years I am kinda done with the grandpa exterior. I also wouldn't want a quiet exhaust so people would know somethings up when they heard it

@@bicylindrico No doubt, something is up with your W124. I drive a stock E430. I get buzzed by BMW's and Porsches all the time probably because they are natural rivals. Very annoying. Big bore exhaust would put a stop to that. However, there is something about a fast car with quiet exhaust. Maybe it is because more restrictive pipes push torque down the rev range making city driving snappier. Maybe it is because I like being sneaky.

@@encinobalboa The best way to achieve that goal would be a single turbo setup on a relatively stock engine. All the power you want and nobody knows ts there. The true 'sleeper.' Cool stuff!

@@bicylindrico Thumbs up! I wish. Kalifornia does me no favors. HPS had a Magnassen supercharger kit which was CARB legal. It was $8,500 in 2002 and added 100 rwhp. SC whine could be mistaken for worn pulley which all Merc's seem to have.

Always wanted to carb a M117 5.6 going way back to the begining of production, had the same vision for the M119 later, just lost focus and let too many things get in the way. Did actually take the time 12V VR6T a C230K coupe and that was definitely worth the effort. You did a really nice job on this car and I'm sure it makes it worth the effort every time you drive it. Keep rolling.....

Thank you and yes, it's worth every penny every time I drive it no doubt. Any engine will run great with a carb as you know but I didn't want to deal with the coolant issues with the older engines and their intake manifold setup let alone the M119 camshafts. It's still hard to find camshaft manufacturers to work with even the M117. We should all be thankful that companies like Catcams will still make the profiles to build a custom M113 hotrod. Let's all keep them busy

Sick work!!! A guy on benzforums made a custom carbon intake for the m117 and it made ALL the difference! Coming from other car brands and working on my w126 I learned that I hate the intake manifold design on all the v8's.

They all actually function quite well with their long runners but yes they suck to try and modify.. This engine is now super easy to work on with the mods I have done

Fender flares like a hammer widebody or a e500 type of fenders? Imho the stock (standart) look is more appealing, especially if the fenders have no rust, then keeping it visually stock is worth more the emotions of people on the road who would never guess that this old Merc has the heart to race a Dodge Charger

But once you hear it, you know it's no sleeper. I chose this car to do these things because it is not great. The videos I think show it as nicer than it is and I would probably never cut up a nice survivor. This car just been given a chance to be an unruly teenager again so anything goes.

Such an awesome specimen and man it sounds cool! Hadn’t realized I’d missed out on so many updates, looking fantastic. I need to look back on your videos to revisit what had done for ignition/ECU etc and look forward to updates on Megasquirt, I'd like to get the E420 on an aftermarket ECU eventually… still one of my favorite projects and idea’s followed through with on KZbin... I have to ask, how did you get the block so clean!? Was this done during the engine stand time? *Watching the big cam videos now!*

Yes, the entire engine was stripped down and cleaned completely on the stand. The magnesium valve covers were scuffed, epoxy primed, painted with VHT metallic gold engine paint and 2K cleared with Spraymax brilliant clear. The MS3Pro module is worth every cent and can replace that LH system with the ability to add boost in your future.

You might have already heard about vrp but they make performance parts for m113 and they have headers for the m113 and k motors.

Yes they have some awesome stuff! This setup is very unique though and I wouldn't expect anyone to have something that would fit this. The chassis just wasn't made for a dual exhaust setup to allow for standard headers

Very cool. I had been looking for options for a carbed m119 intake and possible exhaust headers to modify and found the cleavland had the same bore spacing essentially.

The M119 intake would be a lot more work with the coolant passages.

@@bicylindrico yeah they need to be connected or eliminated. It was awhile ago I was planning and can't recall the exact setup off the top of my head. There was a guy that ran scca/trans am in with a 450sl with a carb and just had a an line crossover.

@@jasonbirch1182 I kicked around the idea in the past but just didn't want to mess with the M119 too much. It's just too wide and that makes it a lot harder to work with. The stand alone EZL ignition is what makes it so tempting though. I am still a fan.

@@bicylindrico you can Install the m117 500 or 560 timing cover and run the single distributor too. That's what I'm doing. Those dual distributors suck, especially in shitty weather.

Thank you. The low profile oil filter assembly is from an SLK55 #113-180-03-10 and it takes a different oil filter #000-180-28-09. The oil fill cap is from an early NA E63 #156-018-01-02

Yeah, you're going to burn through 02 sensors with a carb on there. Which is bad primarily when the engine is cold, and the sensor is warming up, because there's no atomization inside a cold intake manifold. Plus, it doesn't really work to run 14.7 at cruise with a carb, it will run poorly. You can gain about 15hp over the carb with the Holley Terminator TB injection, it's self learning, and it will be friendly to the 02 of course. I just noticed you have a single plane on there to fit it under the hood...

I have has no issues once properly tuned. I also just needed for tuning and removed once the fuel mixture was sorted out

Man ...this is so awesome, carburated M113 just woooow... this is dream modern classic setup, really want build one kind of this. I just wonder how to get rid from that complicated stock ECU to convert into stand alone, would you like to share details of wiring and sensor

I run a Megasquirt MS3Pro EVO on the ignition but it will handle fuel injection and some boost too if needed. There are just 2 engine sensors and the ignition coils so wiring is minimal. It was actually one of the easier parts of the build.

The inexpensive aftermarket stainless manifolds you see on eBay with the drivers side being modified to wrap around the steering shaft. 2.5" pipe to the Flowmaster mufflers exiting just before the rear axle.

@@bicylindrico Thanks for replying... I'm doing the same setup, with VRP headers and i found NOS kleemann mufflers.. Hopefully sounds good.... I have 2 brand new m113 passenger side kleemann headers, If you could ever use them let me know... I have no use... They gave me a refund for sending two passenger headers and let me keep them...

Holly f/ its clean as shit !!! I bought mine 2 years ago it had 17,755 miles , never did it look that good tho . What are you using ecm. God i would love to have that set up !!! I have 01 s500 has just under 50,000 on it now , but new throttle boddy 6 inch extension and the air box is out my hood , new injection coiles wires plugs fuel rail lines pump and filter . Used trans 40some thousand miles , Daily she runs man . Ive added a chip and its right at 390hp right now . Runjing 305. /295 front , 20 inch . I have the amg mag in garage . People shake there head when thue see my benz they dont kno why any one would hot rod a s class but i toy with 5.0 mustangs on highway walking them and forgeting im in stick shift and never go above 4th and will slowly walk a 392 charger or challenger. So im good for now . Also jogged a 17 ss camaro , i love it ive modded the entire body tubbed the rear wheel wells coil over adjustable- getting rid of the four air and hydraulic struts lines cooler divider blocks and all the accessories shaved nearly 300 pounds off of the car. It has half a 2001 SVT cobra front bumper that I molded into the stock AMG front bumper and the rest of the body is all custom kitted by hand . I wish I had the money to put into knickknacks like you’re doing I’m absolutely jealous of that motor and the whole set up. I would love to get past the whole Mercedes ECUTCM the whole nine and run it MSD /and msd Computer like those digital dash set ups that are in race cars. There’s only so much you can do if you’re using the original Mercedes computers so every March right now that I do has to comply with its format ,sometimes she spiders and spits because of the larger intake tube and Breezer for some reason it only likes the amount of space and original airflow from the factory I don’t have any of the equipment to do any tuning on it myself. It has a Volvo chip which I can upload new tunes and download into the system but I have no idea anything about that that’s why I’m jealous of your carburetor LOL.. I absolutely love that car I would love to no pun intended run into you out on the roads sometime just to share the experience exchange info and talk M113.. would actually love to make a custom tranny play to link either a Ford five speed or an old Chevy four-speed manual. Your car is very cool bro I love it when I see your videos pop up, if you ever seen falling down the movie the scene when he’s in that Nazis close down store and he’s telling Michael Douglas you and me “we are the same you and me “me and you are the same understand. L O L nothing Hitler but just the German side we are far and few in between and there’s just as many haters as there are congratulaters . Thamks man this was a great video . Hi. I just caught your build. Have you given any thought to cooling; radiator fan(s) specifically? It looks like all you have on the car are the two aux fans up front.

My Megasquirt will control those fans for me but those fans provide all the airflow needed if you have them turn on when stationary. The old viscous fans on front of the engine just rob power when they aren't needed.

@@bicylindrico OK. I live in Florida so running A/C (do you?) on a 100F day is something I always consider. I'll leave you with this knowledge: a Lincoln Mark VIII rad fan is widely considered the highest CFM fan available over all other production AND after-market fans. The '97-'98 fan flows a little more than the '93-'96, but either is a superior unit compared to anything else.

@@jacekaniorallygenetics2212 Yes, much more high RPM power. I don't know how much the intake improvement helped over the camshaft swap but they are both working well together. It feels like it wants to rev right past 6K easily but I don't have properly tuned yet to try.

The twin spark combustion chamber is fast burning so yes it's less than most single spark engines that typically run around mid 30's total timing. My timing does hit the 30's but only under light load/cruising conditions where a typical single spark will see timing in the 40's

No, nothing will just bolt up and make it past the steering shaft but there is plenty of room to go around it.

No, I haven't had a chance to dyno. Considering the known variables like head flow, compression, camshaft profiles, etc, Should be around 400 crank and maybe 325 or so to the wheels

I use the rear wind screen defrost to control the aux fans and turn it on at stoplights and while idling at temp. Easy jumper in the fuse box. No viscous engine fan

Quick question I have a clk430 planning on supercharging it. I’ve read that I can swap a 5.0l and 5.4l cylinder head with cams and valves?

or just the cams. I believe the only heads that were different were the kompressor heads with a slightly larger combustion chamber which may help with lowering the compression but not by much
