Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Production.
Ever since the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter made its debut in 1995, the van has made a name for itself all over the world. The vehicle has always been a pioneer when it comes to assistance and safety systems. In 1995 Mercedes-Benz became the first manufacturer in this segment to introduce the anti-lock braking system (ABS) in a van by fitting it to the Sprinter. Another first for vans, the Electronic Stability Program (ESP®), followed in 2002. Mercedes-Benz Vans achieved another pioneering feat in 2006 when it further developed ESP into ADAPTIVE ESP®. All of these developments have made the Sprinter a top seller. With sales of over 2.7 million units, the van has been helping customers in a wide variety of applications for the past 19 years.
Located in the segment for vehicles with around 3.5 tons GVW, the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter straddles the line between cars and trucks, as defined by German traffic law at the time the van was introduced. However, the innovative vehicle concept has not only met with a great response in Germany, as the pioneering van is also rapidly conquering markets abroad. Today, the van is sold in thousands of variants in around 130 countries worldwide.
That the Sprinter has become a global vehicle is also reflected in its production locations. In addition to rolling off the line in Düsseldorf and Ludwigsfelde, Germany, the van is now produced in Charleston, South Carolina, González Catan, Argentina, Fuzhou, China, and Nizhny Novgorod, Russia. That makes the Sprinter a truly global vehicle and one of the key pillars of the “Vans goes global” growth strategy of Mercedes-Benz Vans. The strategy is consistently globalizing the division’s business and exploiting additional earnings potential in new growth markets.

Driving through Omaha Nebraska a year ago saw a Sprinter about 4 years old. Every seam had serious rust, hopefully the new body style is something that approaches the Best or Nothing marketing.

today those poor robots are unemployed in other factories. Mercedes Benz was the only manufacture that was able to sell me a new van. picked up a beautiful 2022 2500 cargo in white and couldnt be more pleased with it! took it home last thursday

I didn’t see any primer or corrosion prevention before the painting process. That would solve SO many problems for 10 more minutes of work. Please consider this.

Look again; the body shells are bare metal, but in the painting scene the vehicle is now white (primed), and they are then spraying the interior and door shuts black, before the body goes to the robot spraying of the exterior. It's not common to have access to the robot spray areas when giving plant tours or filming, partly because no one is allowed inside a robotic cell whilst the robot is running, but also as some manufacturers consider their paint techniques to be proprietary knowledge which they don't share.

Im a Mercedes fan,and this production is brilliant but they certainly need to step up on their paint,pretty much every sprinter you see around here in the UK has some sort of rust problems on the body and wheel arches and when your paying for a premium vehicle thats not good enough imo.

I visited the Charleston plant when it was a brand new plant for Sterling Condors. They were fixing to start sprinter production in half the plant. Condor owners ran it in the ground and broke them so I guess sprinter has the whole beautiful place.

15 Yare/year factory trained MBZ technician, lead Sprinter Diesel Technician Scottsdale AZ , USA MBZ Dealership. Looks like a OM 651 TD Great motor. V6 Turbodiesel OM642 is a Legendary motor. Made where my Mother and Grandmother (Omi) born in Berlin, GER Top 3 Motor ease to maintain, Engine Oil changes with MBZ oil and filter, , MBZ fuel filters every 20,000 miles, Engine Air filers 20k miles you will run for 200K to 500K miles. made in Berlin is the Workhorse Motor of the World UPS/ Fed Ex, Amazon, OnTrrax Shipping, Ambulances, Loomis Armored Vans, Sprinter, Airstreams, Winebago, Campers, Plumbing, Electrical, AC work vans.... I've seen it all in A MBZ Sprinter. Even SWAT team Sprinter Armored. So easy to work on 500,000Miles USA is no problem with proper Maintenance.

I like this kind of videos. And I thank you for posting this one. Just one tiny remark. When I watch videos about a vehicle assembly, I expect to see the vehicle assembly, not "the people who make Mercedes". You often show the people instead of what they are doing. And with all due respect, that's not what I want to see.

After seeing this, I now know why the corrosion occurs around the hinges. They really need to fix this, such basic stuff they miss.

You didn't watch the first minute? Lots of people with safety glasses as workers in A-Fab (body) need them. Painters obviously wear full face masks, but other than them people in paintshop do not need glasses and neither does virtually anyone in final assembly.

I have the VW, i can honestly say every day or so i see the tell tale signs of rust creeping in, last one for me not worth the money when there are better vans out there now.

It could so easily be avoided by submerging the completed body shell in an anticorrosive liquid prior to painting as is most cars...

The French vans are all galvanized and it's the running gear that fails, MB have the best drivetrain on the planet but rot quicker than willy wonkers teeth.

Turbo Conquering Mega Eagle PSA vans was good with 3.0 4 cylinder diesel Iveco engine...but weak part was PSA gearbox :(

A very impressive video and impressive factory, At the end of the day, I see mechanical robots and I see Human robots. I have driven the Sprinter and it's very good. Except for rust / corrosion. These things start to rust out at the first rain and or winter. For that reason alone, I won't purchase one or recommend it!

Aqui no Brasil. A manutenção é caríssima. A Mercedes Benz. Está perdendo mercado. Sem falar que tem. Os defeitos crônicos. Amortecedor, bomba de água, caixa de direção, Cardan vibra muito, respiro do motor passa óleo, motor relativamente fraco, peças caras, monobloco Trinca, essa veículo tem vários defeito crônicos. Tenho uma 12/13 conheço bem os seus problema. *Ponto positivo conforto, dirigibilidade e segurança, ótima.

So.….any rust problems with these??? Actually we're lucky in Australia. We don't have the snow and salt to start rust. Very common to see a rust free 20 year old car.

Aqui no Brasil. O motor é o om651 la. Acho um motor ruim. Fraco para esse carro. Pesado. Deixa a desejar. Lamentável usar esse motor fraco em um veículo pesado. Motor 2.2. turbo problemático.

Well over priced rust buckets. I have never seen a MERCEDES!!!!!!!!!!! SPRINTER VAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Without any form of corrosion. Over priced Rubbish vans. Rust our us should be their Logo.
