Just done mine following the vid, I did not need to remove the belt and those clips are a pain without the correct tool, changed one of them out to a normal type otherwise I would be still trying to complete the job😂 thanks

It is indeed not needed to remove the belt.

Thank you Nicholas, for the very thorough explanation and instructions, plus excellent video production. I have a 2011 W204 engine C250 CDi Estate, 190,000 miles and it was not the Thermostat that had failed, but a 'crack' in the housing. It was extremely hard for me and my mechanic, Jake, to identify, as it only presented as a leak when the engine reached 92C and the Thermostat opened, for the coolant to reach the crack. I found your excellent video on replacing the Thermostat once I knew what the leak was, but there isn't a video to highlight that the 'housing' can crack over time and be a source for a Coolant Leak. If you are agreeable, may I suggest that you extend the Title of your Video to include "...and a known source of coolant leaks from the thermostat housing, know to suffer 'cracking' on older W204 engines" Please let me know, as this will save me the time of making my own video to draw attention to this problem, to help other W204 Mercedes owners. Thanks again.

@@davidharvey5812 hey! I will add that. Actually, the new housing started leaking again. Turns out the engine was building up too much pressure, headgasket was failing. I took out and appart the whole engine, that fixed it xD

Nice work! I have a question, there are 2 sensor on the thermostat housing, one is coolant temperature sensor but what is the name of the other one? My coolant is leaking from there and i can’t find that sensor’s name nor where ti but it.

@@AutoMorons i believe its to check if the thermostat is open. Not sure. After replacing the housing the car started leaking from there again. There was too much coolant pressure and ended up changing the headgasket.

@@MechaNick_ do you think i can replace it ? Or do i have to change the whole thermostat?

is mandatory to change that hose? or not 100% neccesary

I replaced it because it started leaking around the rim.
