A tip, learned from bitter experience on the top of many Harrier engines: never, ever remove the screws from ANYTHING while it's on top of the engine. Now, I know those Torx bolts are semi-captive in the filter cover, but one day, when you drop a screw ( and you will, sure as night follows day) it will somehow find its way into a hole or port that you've left open. In this case, the oil filter housing, from which you removed the cap. Play it safe; use a bench. You're welcome ;-)

Thanks Chris, yes a very good suggestion indeed. In this case, the risk was low as I kept all small parts well away from the oil filler and filter openings. And agreed, well away on a bench is a much better option. But will certainly bear it in mind. I think we have all dropped a nut/screw for it to never to land on the floor. Incidentally, I wouldn't have normally done the service in those conditions but was just to demonstrate by using the suction system, its easy to do in any conditions. :)

@@adrgraphics it was a great video mate, and I'm going to be saving myself £85 by doing the 3 air filters myself. If I can find one of those oil-sucky doohickies I'll do that as well, saving another £85! Keep up the great work!

Great informative video buddy! I'll start looking for a pump just like the one you have tomorrow. You forgot the air cabin filters by the way, located under the glove box on the passenger side (you need a T 20 to unscrew I believe). Preparing to do it myself on my 2004 A 209 (clk 200K) . Thanks a lot

Very good informative video. I learned a lot. I bought an electric 12v fluid extractor to hook up to the battery for $30. Works great empties the oil in about 3 minutes. I will use it on my other cars as well. At first I thought about jacking the car up and removing the drain pan bolt but there is a cover under the vehicle which would have to removed first so I opted for the fluid/oil extractor.

very informative....didn't know you could get an extractor that was manually operated, only ever saw ones you need an air line to function.

Coole Sache - mache ich ebenfalls so, nur mit elektrischer Ölpumpe (braucht seine Zeit, dafür sehr entspannt). Good stuff- also doing it the same way, just with a electric pump (takes some time but easy).

hi,great video,i am about to attempt this myself and was wondering if the replacement o rings come with the new filter and do they fit onto the plastic filter holder as i could not see where they went thanks andy
@adrgraphics11 жыл бұрын
Yep, the genuine filter from Mercedes (doesn't cost a lot) come with the new filter and the o-rings (4 as I remember) and yes just slide the old ones off the plastic holder (with a screw driver) and slide the new ones on in the same places before you push the new filter onto it.

Qq. Where do you take your used oil for disposal?
@BGRedStarBG10 жыл бұрын
Great video. Just purchased a CLK320 and was wondering how hard it is to do the oil change. Unlike some I actually think using the pump is an awesome idea and saves u a bit a hassle too. How would you check the oil by the way? I scrolled through my settings but didn't see the oil level displayed on it. Thanks for the video.
@adrgraphics9 жыл бұрын
Make sure car is level, don't turn the engine on, but have the display on speed, turn ignition to aux, press reset button 3x times quickly and then turn ignition on BUT don't start. Then you can scroll through the additional display (voltage etc) until you get oil level to a tenth of a litre.

Hi, I had a question for you. I have a 2005 clk320 convertible. Have never done an oil change myself on it. Anyways so basically I can pump the oil out of the engine? Or do I have to get under the car and unplug something to let oil drain? Hope you can answer my questions. Thank you!

Isn't that red cap on the gearbox dipstick tube?
@adrgraphics4 жыл бұрын
s8nke watch out, on this engine there are 2x red caps. One is indeed the transmission fluid dipstick. That should in theory be a single use cap (though I kept reusing- basically, separate to this video I also had a gearbox oil leak!)

Why not changing oil of the warmed up machine?
@adrgraphics6 жыл бұрын
Bernd Good point! If I didn’t mention about running the engine for about 10mins before starting the process, I should have done. Yes it’s much easier with slightly warm oil. (But not too hot to burn yourself. )😀

Mobil 1 synthetic is the only oil you should use in a Benz!
@adrgraphics10 жыл бұрын
Fair point, Its certainly the one recommended by MB and is a very good quality oil IMHO. The important point though is thats its the correct specification as recommended by MB. Some would argue that Mobil 1 is chosen more to do with the marketing contract with MB and of course not oils are the same. Even if they meet the same spec, not oils are the same. Personally if I filmed this again I would use another brand of oil - highly recommended to me is Bardhal oils. www.top-oils.co.uk

+Andrew Robinson Hello Andrew Thank you much for the video! Would you please tell me which of the Bardahl oil you would use? My 2002 baby just hit the 80k mileage and I want to keep her ship shape.
@MultiSniipez10 жыл бұрын
why the hell didnt you just jack it up and crack the bolt open? instead of pumping like shit?
@adrgraphics10 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment. Why get on the floor when its cold and wet, have to remove the under engine covers, get oil all over my hands etc. This method is so much easier, quicker & better and thats why all Mercedes main dealers (and other top marques) now do it this way. Plus the unit I use takes all the waste oil and is clean on the outside ready to take straight do to the recycling centre.m:)
@MultiSniipez10 жыл бұрын
True... i was more thinking if you had it in a garage, you would do that. But i see that you cant do that in the parking lot in the snow :D btw nice car haha have a nice day
@adrgraphics10 жыл бұрын
MultiSniipez :) Cheers. Yes, one of the reasons I wanted to do this video is just to show how easy it is to do the complete service (filters etc too) even outside in the snow and ice. Thanks :)
