A short video about my 2006 Mercedes-Benz CLK 200 Kompressor (W209 or C209).
I intend to look after this car, and as such have taken it for a full B Service - what Mercedes like to call a main/major service.
This involves replacement of engine oil and filter, air filter, pollen filter, brake fluid and keyfob batteries. Also a whole host of checks carried out, and a minor issue discovered...
Taken to a local service specialist, AMG Cheshire near Manchester.
More CLK videos: • Mercedes-Benz CLK 200 ...
Covers CLKs sold in 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009.

I'm a Saab man, although not an architect. These clk's have been winking at me for some time now and so, after watching all of your videos (obviously), I took the plunge last week and bought a '52 plate 320. Quite a different beast to the Saab and I'm still getting my head around it but so far, it's not shabby. The Saab is still in the garage just in case.

Glad to know the videos have helped your decision! I'm a big fan of Saab, having owned a 9-3 Aero V6, and my dad had a 900S (1996 model) when I was younger. You did make me chuckle with you keeping the Saab in the garage just in case :) Let me know how you get on with the CLK!

I bought my 2006 320 cdi four years ago. The previous owner had bought it from MB in Lindenfingen in 2009, with a mileage of 3000km. MB had used it in marketing, exhibited at trade fairs etc .., apparently depicted in brochures as well. I only use it in the summer, mostly on Sundays, if it`s sun, hehe .. I live in northern Norway, and it is definitely not a car for our winters. Too much torque combined with an automatic gearbox makes it hopeless to get ahead in the snow. The system with the side windows is also not designed for North Norwegian winter. I also want to save it from salt, so better it stays dry and clean in the garage that time of year. But it`s a beautiful car to glide around with in the summer and get that millionaire feeling. LOL Mileage is 139,000km now.
@JJonCars
@JJonCars 3 жыл бұрын
It's nice knowing the history of a car isn't it! I can imagine that its not good for Norwegian winters as its not even that great for UK winters! The side window system is interesting when you end up pulling the door open and the glass is frozen and pulls through the rubber channels (feels horrible!). I've "gummi pflege"-ed the rubber seals which at least helps a little bit haha. Nice with all the windows down in the summer though. You'll be able to keep that car for years :)

Great cars the CLK. I’ve had a 2001 320 ( the previous W208 ) since 2014 and apart from servicing I’ve only had to replace the aircon compressor, four springs and the camshaft sensor. A Toyota would have been more expensive to own. I drive sympathetically and do long journeys only and have averaged about 35mpg over the 50k miles I’ve done. Vastly underrated cars, the 3.2V6 is very smooth.

Wow! I like the look of the older CLK, I did once test drive a 320 back in the day and almost bought it. Very nice cars and you get the three-pointed star on the bonnet like a proper Merc :) I've heard good things about the reliability of the 3.2 and that goes to show it's true.

I'm in the market for a comfy coupe for cruising highways every other weekend and the CLK hit my eye. It might be because I studied architecture back in the days ;) Now we don't want a gas guzzler but on the market there are many 200 Kompressor and many 320. I was considering only the 200 originally but I'm also tempted by the 320 with its indestructible engine. I'm just afraid it's going to ruin me at the petrol station...
@JJonCars
@JJonCars Жыл бұрын
Well, you've got an eye for good design Pierre :) How many miles/kms do you do per year? The 200K is a bit better on fuel than the 320, but not as much as you might hope or think! So if you really fancy the V6 then I'd go for it.
@supercanardo
@supercanardo Жыл бұрын
@@JJonCars Thanks JJ! Like a lot of people, we bought a country house post lockdown. It's a 2.5 hour drive, and it's proving not ideal (we were expecting it) to do the trip in our 1986 VW van. It takes time, lots of petrol and it's not very comfortable. So we're in the market for a 5K car and came across the CLK which seems ideal for what we want: comfortable at motorway speed (80-90mph), faster and better fuel economy than the van (20-22 uk mpg @ 60mph!) The 200K seemed the choice of reason. Now if you tell me the 320 won't be waaaaay over the 200k at motorway speed, then we're happy to consider it! From what I gather, the 320 also has a virtually indestructible engine (as long as it was taken care of), and we should avoid the 240 if we go 6 cylinders. Also, I looked into getting an ECU remap to be able to drive on Ethanol which is more than half the price of E5-95 here in France. Doesn't seem a bad idea as long as it's done by a professional testing it on rolling road, not just a map bought off the internet. Opinion?
@JJonCars
@JJonCars Жыл бұрын
@@supercanardo Well, I can't say exactly what it will be at motorway speed, but I do know that even the 200k is not great at 80-90mph. Have you thought about a diesel, 220CDi perhaps? I've also heard good things about the reliability of the 320 engine. I don't know anything about running cars on ethanol! Do you use E10 or just E5?
@supercanardo
@supercanardo Жыл бұрын
@@JJonCars Thanks! I've never had a diesel in my life and I don't think it's for me. ;) They take E10 happily but I've read a lot about remapping the ECU to run on pure E85. Some remapping also give you the option of gaining power (35hp on a 200K !) but I'm not sure I would go there.
@JJonCars
@JJonCars Жыл бұрын
@@supercanardo To be honest, neither have I, and I don't think I ever will! I'd heard it was difficult to get more power from the 200K. Did you know that they increased the power of the 200K from around 2006/7 I think? Sadly mine is the older lower power engine. 35hp would be quite welcome :D

My lord, as someone who services my own CLK, thoroughly and properly myself, £412 for those basic fluid and filter changes is extortionate! High quality oil and filter would cost me no more than £60, the OEM air filter is £14 and the pollen filter is £12. Fob batteries are £2 for a pack of two. So the parts come to £88 and the thing is, these cars are not difficult to do this type of basic servicing on. I bought some ramps from Halford for £30 but you can even just use your car jack. The sump plug is easy to access, the oil filter is right there at the top of the engine, and the air and pollen filters are a 3 minute job to change. So I guess the 'inspection' of the car cost the other £324 there !! What a rip off. Please, learn to do basic servicing yourself - especially on an older car that's out of warranty. You'll save hundreds every year and it's very satisfying and you'll know it's been done properly.
@JJonCars
@JJonCars Жыл бұрын
Hello DROGE. I can change oil and filters myself, or at least I've done it in the past on other cars :) My reasons rightly or wrongly: 1. I wanted a stamp/invoice to match the previous service history, which admittedly is a lot to pay for such and possibly totally pointless. It also felt 'right' taking it to the place it had been since day 1. 2. What I can't really do is thoroughly inspect the car - I don't have a ramp or any expertise in what to look for. They found an issue with the multiplug that I doubt I would have discovered myself, and had the gearbox grenaded as a result of the oil leak, then chances are I'd be quite a few more quid down than the price of the service! 🤷‍♂️ Tbh I am surprised that it has taken until now to get the I've been ripped off comment though haha, it was £££
