My ML350 Bluetec towed a 27ft travel trailer (6,500lbs) for a number of years within the Rockies. It humiliated many gas trucks, I towed the same trailer with other trucks too. I always used Shell V Power diesel and Mobil 1 oil, shortened intervals when towing. Towing with a Touareg TDI now, similar performance although the ML is better off roading. And I second your “it will never have the capability of a pickup truck”.

We’re currently looking to replace my wife’s 2016 ml diesel and after searching for months, nothing really compares. The “newest” similar spec is a 2018 BMW x5 diesel… debating going down the used Land Rover/Range Rover trail.
@maximusfuscus2 жыл бұрын
@@2K9s - The Touareg is a beast and quite reliable. I love BMWs but they break a lot:(. I don’t know much about the diesel Landy. I also had a diesel GL at one point, bigger and heavier than the ML, air suspension standard.

@@maximusfuscus right on, thanks. We like the new atlas and q7 but really want another diesel and more size so a gl is on the list. The new Tahoe diesels are sweet but 70k. Too bad most manufacturers stopped diesel production in the midsize suv market which caused a weird inventory hole for what we want. The market is crazy as is but something will pop up.
@maximusfuscus2 жыл бұрын
@@2K9s - The Atlas is just a glorified Honda Pilot version from VW. No comparison to the previous Touareg. It is a “soccer mom” (no offence to soccer moms intended) crossover, really. I know, diesels in SUVs are not appreciated a lot because of consumer culture in North America. The Tahoe is quite something. Everything is crazy expensive now, I would hunt for something later in the year.
@2K9s2 жыл бұрын
@@maximusfuscus I hear ya, newer SUV’s seem to be made like aluminum cans with balsa wood and are gutless. Touaregs are badass, I confused them with tiguans which is way off. Thinking of going Manhiem again to buy which is what I did for a couple stealer-ships 15 years ago which seems like the next logical step after talking to used salesman and where they’re getting inventory. Maybe I’ll find a hot rod to curb too.

i have a 2019 4x4 sprinter that i love. with sprinters the only way to get a clear coat is to go for the metabolic premium colors. I went with the irridium silver and it was worth every penny
@CrossCory2 жыл бұрын
I bought a iridium silver high top cargo sprinter 4 cyl gas as a courier/ video production van but as I recently learned more about automotive, 4x4 capabilities I want to go with that exact color and low roof crew van. So awesome to have middle seats when needed as well as efficient cargo space in the back (plenty for a trip. I would personally add the front towing bumper, extra head lights, back door sparewheel holder, roof solar panels and vent, and with this Florida company that puts hybrid batteries on trucks to give it better gas mileage.

I got a 2019 4X4 model and it is partially built. We installed suspension to improve road trip driving against strong winds. Perhaps a lower clearance might handled against strong winds better. Other than that, we were able to leave comfortably in the van for 7 weeks.

Kind of a moot point, since production is sold out into the 2023 model. With a dual turbo 4 cylinder, not a 6. Only bright point will be a 9 speed transmission. With diesel selling over twice the price of gas, and DEF production cut back...not a sunny picture.

It’s cool for sure but I just don’t see how someone can justify $63K total retail for a van. It’s hard enough to justify a 6.7 F-250 at the same price.
@JohnSeitz2 жыл бұрын
How so? They are incredibly hard to find currently. Most people buy them for business use or RV use. MB puts a lot of tech into them. Mine is fully loaded (sans LED) having heated seats and all the safety driving technology. And the small diesel is outstanding, I get about 15mpg highway. But weight on mine is 9k pounds and KO2 tires 😉
@michaelrussomanno56422 жыл бұрын
@@JohnSeitz Everything is hard to find currently, that doesn't change anything I said. The fully loaded van is just about as nice as an XLT trim F-250. And at the end of the day the V6 diesel in the van only has 190 hp and 325 lb/ft, the F-250 you'll pay the same price for has 475 hp and 1050 lb/ft. And your gas mileage is nothing impressive too. My 20 y/o 7.3 PSD on 35's gets 18 highway and a 6.7 averages 22 mpg. The only reason the V6 diesel is "outstanding" is because the I4 gas/diesel engines they put in the vans are so lame in comparison.

@@michaelrussomanno5642 I had the same thought until I really looked at what it was. I own 2 trucks, a Cummins and a duramax. Both within 6 model years old. The difference between a truck and a van is application. For most, a van does absolutely everything a truck does, but better. If you’re looking at towing heavy, then obviously a truck. If you’re looking at something comfortable, can keep your stuff dry and safe, and can also use for camping and work… A high roof van is the way to go. We aren’t looking for power in these, we are looking for efficiency and comfort ability. I do agree the price is a bit high, but at the same time, it is on price with a truck, but in a different platform.
