I cant belive they couldn't even diagnose a dead battery, ive found that start stop is the quickest way to kill a battery, had to replace quite a few batteries. Good job as always Jimmy, quite liking the look of the Kingbolen,seems capable of most things .👍

It's amazing how often the battery is overlooked. You can test them all day long but the most valuable information is the age and how many times has it gone flat.
@davidnorton5887 Жыл бұрын
I've found that often just a single time flattening the battery is usually the beginning of the end.

Ive read so many comments saying need to reset BMS, most cars with BMS yes you do however most mercedes and even BMW are self learning, and you only need to re celebrate if your changing the AH from what the manufacturer fitted. I changed one last week cleared all codes went to calibrate BMS with bosh just to see if it was available and got a note saying only needs changing if AH different and needs dealer computer to do it, same battery spec went in so just crack on no issues. Vag group are different you need to put make of battery in, battery type ie efb agm etc, the AH and a serial number lol

Who can’t diagnose a faulty battery nowadays, slightest drop and gives all kinds of problems. And don’t don’t don’t put cheapy battery in make sure you put in the correct type of battery in, might be twice the price but you’ll pay more in dopey diagnostics from dopey garages 🤦🏻♂️ well done Jimmy

Some Mechanics don’t understand that a battery can need replaced even though it starts the car. That fact confuses Mechanics that have not kept up to date with technology. My Jag XJL (X351) was the 1st car I owned (back in 2013) that would have all kinds of electric issues when the battery got discharged fully after an alternator pulley failure. The Jaguar Main Dealer wouldn’t replace the battery and I had all kinds of weird faults afterwards. I tried an overnight trickle charge and it improved a little but a couple of weeks later the battery died completely. I was lucky I had already bought a battery to replace it And this wasn’t a car with Stop/Start and only had one battery. I don’t think it was an AGM battery though, the later Stop/Start models had two batteries.

So the owner of the Merc took his car to more than one garage and they could not diagnose a faulty battery. Where the hell are these mechanics, sorry technicians as I believe they are called now, being trained? Whipsnade zoo by any chance?

Training is poor these days, very basic. They are more like fitters than mechanics.

Obviously not a good garage. I know of a few garages in Luton that have literally a wooden shelter with blue tarpaulin as the roof. Work standards are terrible. Coming from me a person who works roadside 😄

A mechanic is only as good as his tools.
@timhilton2143 Жыл бұрын
I don't think how good or bad the tools are make them a good mechanic. Yes having the most modern, up to date kit makes diagnosis a lot easier but 99% of diagnostics come from knowledge, experience, common sense and being methodical. A poor mechanic with the best tools is still a poor mechanic. Too many garages are parts fitters replacing parts to see if they are faulty until they hit the bullseye. These are the bad mechanics who don't know how to diagnose properly and sadly the customer takes the hit. I'm amazed at how many cannot even read wiring diagrams or even have an oscilloscope to hand. Rant over, loving the videos BTW.

amazing how other repairers didnt sort this, it's very common for a weak battery to cause issues like this, especially so many, the battery health is the first thing i check and most of the time it's the cause, it's shocking how little garages and main dealers know or can be bothered with🙄

@bigjml Жыл бұрын
Better than putting it inside the car IMHO

Most late model Mercedes are in that location, the thing to watch is refitting that cabin filter as often the plastic breaks when refitting the clips.

I come across this problem quite a lot on the roadside, yes same scenario “my mechanic just reset the codes but the faults comes back”! After replacement I always reset the battery adaptions. Always an ongoing argument whether you should or not…personally I always do as in most cases the Ah is different to the one fitted prior and it’s good practise to tell the BMS what it’s charging up to etc.

@@herrkiwi3110 well, BMS shall re-learn battery state over the time but JLR , for example, states that you have to initiate battery replacement in BMS. BMW or VAG give you the option to choose the battery manufacturer in some models.

@@garybrown5500 Not instantly but over time it will lose quite a capacity since BMS could not re-learn it properly. All batteries are different, especially from different manufacturers.
